It continues with my going back to college and becoming a successful insurance agent with State Farm, raising three children on my own, and tells of my chronic and terminal illnesses that could kill me before I reach my forty-fifth birthday. Book Theatre Translation in Performance

Download or read book Theatre Translation in Performance written by Silvia Bigliazzi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-04-02 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume focuses on the highly debated topic of theatrical translation, one brought on by a renewed interest in the idea of performance and translation as a cooperative effort on the part of the translator, the director, and the actors. Exploring the role and function of the translator as co-subject of the performance, it addresses current issues concerning the role of the translator for the stage, as opposed to the one for the editorial market, within a multifarious cultural context. The current debate has shown a growing tendency to downplay and challenge the notion of translational accuracy in favor of a recreational and post-dramatic attitude, underlying the role of the director and playwright instead. This book discusses the delicate balance between translating and directing from an intercultural, semiotic, aesthetic, and interlingual perspective, taking a critical stance on approaches that belittle translation for the theatre or equate it to an editorial practice focused on literality. Chapters emphasize the idea of dramatic translation as a particular and extremely challenging type of performance, while consistently exploring its various textual, intertextual, intertranslational, contextual, cultural, and intercultural facets. The notion of performance is applied to textual interpretation as performance, interlingual versus intersemiotic performance, and (inter)cultural performance in the adaptation of translated texts for the stage, providing a wide-ranging discussion from an international group of contributors, directors, and translators.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Bending the Rules in the Quest for an Authentic Female Identity

Download or read book Bending the Rules in the Quest for an Authentic Female Identity written by Cristina Santos and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2004 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The narrative style of both Clarice Lispector and Carmen Boullosa is characterized by a postmodern tendency toward an increased reader participation. This is accomplished by a process of liberalizing a pre-established socio-cultural repertoire with respect to female identity. The female protagonists, created by Lispector and Boullosa and examined in this book, struggle to find their true voices and their real life experiences. The resulting literary style of both these authors parallels this struggle, subverting traditional narrative structure and utilizing a dialogue that is particularly suited to describe this feminine process of conscientization.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Manuel Machado written by Gordon Brotherston and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-06-03 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A biographical and critical study of the Spanish poet Manuel Machado (1874-1947), who was highly thought of in his lifetime but who, since his death, declined in popularity. His brother, Antonio, whom he once overshadowed, became more widely read. The first half of the book is biographical, setting Machado against the general literary background in Spain, and estimating his debt to French influence. Dr Brotherston deals in some detail with the Modernista movement, so that the study is almost an account of Spanish literary life of the time. The second half of the book is critical; Dr Brotherston wishes to show the fine quality of certain poems, and to affirm Machado's real importance and distinction. The generous bibliography will be useful to readers closely concerned with Machado and his period.

Book La Vida Real que Dios ha Dado al Cristiano

Download or read book La Vida Real que Dios ha Dado al Cristiano written by M. Alberto Zelaya Aragón and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2014-02 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
