Download or read book Historia de la Edad Media written by Salvador . . . [et al. Claramunt Rodríguez and published by Grupo Planeta (GBS). This book was released on 2014 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Para comprender la Edad Media written by F. Javier Villalba Ruíz de Toledo and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Manual de Historia Medieval written by José Ángel Sesma Muñoz and published by Alianza Editorial. This book was released on 2014-11-20 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Retratos del Medioevo written by Gerardo Vidal Guzmán and published by Ediciones Rialp. This book was released on 2008-08-01 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book A Cumulative Bibliography of Medieval Military History and Technology Update 2003 2006

Download or read book A Cumulative Bibliography of Medieval Military History and Technology Update 2003 2006 written by Kelly DeVries and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2008-01-31 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second update of A Cumulative Bibliography of Medieval Military History and Technology, which appeared in 2002. It is meant to do two things: to present references to works on medieval military history and technology not included in the first two volumes; and to present references to all books and articles published on medieval military history and technology from 2003 to 2006. These references are divided into the same categories as in the first two volumes and cover a chronological period of the same length, from late antiquity to 1648, again in order to present a more complete picture of influences on and from the Middle Ages. It also continues to cover the same geographical area as the first and second volume, in essence Europe and the Middle East, or, again, influences on and from this area. The languages of these bibliographical references reflect this geography.

Book The Routledge Handbook of Public Taxation in Medieval Europe

Download or read book The Routledge Handbook of Public Taxation in Medieval Europe written by Denis Menjot and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-30 with total page 690 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning in the twelfth century, taxation increasingly became an essential component of medieval society in most parts of Europe. The state-building process and relations between princes and their subject cities or between citizens and their rulers were deeply shaped by fiscal practices. Although medieval taxation has produced many publications over the past decades there remains no synthesis of this important subject. This volume provides a comprehensive overview on a European scale and suggests new paths of inquiry. It examines the fiscal systems and practices of medieval Europe, including essential themes such as medieval fiscal theory and the power to tax; royal and urban taxation; and Church taxation. It goes on to survey the entire European continent, as well as including comparative chapters on the non-European medieval world, exploring questions on how taxation developed and functioned; what kinds of problems authorities encountered assessing their fiscal power; and the circulation of fiscal cultures and practices across cities and kingdoms. The book also provides a glossary of the most important types of medieval taxes, giving an essential definition of key terms cited in the chapters. The Routledge Handbook of Public Taxation in Medieval Europe will appeal to a large audience, from seasoned scholars who need a comprehensive synthesis, to students and younger scholars in search of an overview of this critical subject.

Book The Visigothic Kingdom in Iberia

Download or read book The Visigothic Kingdom in Iberia written by Santiago Castellanos and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2020-11-13 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The structures of the late ancient Visigothic kingdom of Iberia were rooted in those of Roman Hispania, Santiago Castellanos argues, but Catholic bishops subsequently produced a narrative of process and power from the episcopal point of view that became the official record and primary documentation for all later historians. The delineation of these two discrete projects—of construction and invention—form the core of The Visigothic Kingdom in Iberia. Castellanos reads documents of the period that are little known to many Anglophone scholars, including records of church councils, sermons, and letters, and utilizes archaeological findings to determine how the political system of elites related to local communities, and how the documentation they created promoted an ideological agenda. Looking particularly at the archaeological record, he finds that rural communities in the region were complex worlds unto themselves, with clear internal social stratification little recognized by the literate elites.

Book Jews and Converts in Late Medieval Castile

Download or read book Jews and Converts in Late Medieval Castile written by Cecil Reid and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-04-06 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jews and Converts in Late Medieval Castile examines the ways in which Jewish-Christian relations evolved in Castile, taking account of social, cultural, and religious factors that affected the two communities throughout the fourteenth and early fifteenth centuries. The territorial expansion of the Christian kingdoms in Iberia that followed the reconquests of the mid-thirteenth century presented new military and economic challenges. At the same time the fragile balance between Muslims, Jews, and Christians in the Peninsula was also profoundly affected. Economic and financial pressures were of over-riding importance. Most significant were the large tax revenues that the Iberian Jewish community provided to royal coffers, new evidence for which is provided here. Some in the Jewish community also achieved prominence at court, achieving dizzying success that often ended in dismal failure or death. A particular feature of this study is its reliance upon both Castilian and Hebrew sources of the period to show how mutual perceptions evolved through the long fourteenth century. The study encompasses the remarkable and widespread phenomenon of Jewish conversion, elaborates on its causes, and describes the profound social changes that would culminate in the anti-converso riots of the mid-fifteenth century. This book is valuable reading for academics and students of medieval and of Jewish history. As a study of a unique crucible of social change it also has a wider relevance to multi-cultural societies of any age, including our own.
