Book Days of Freedom Divrei Torah on Pesach Sefira and Shavuos from Torahweb Org 1999 2018

Download or read book Days of Freedom Divrei Torah on Pesach Sefira and Shavuos from Torahweb Org 1999 2018 written by Abraham J. Twerski and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-03-27 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The yomim tovim are not merely "holidays," i.e. times to break from the routine of daily life and celebrate some past event, group of people, or societal institution. Rather, each yom tov is distinctively, intrinsically holy, and it is the unique kedushas ha-yom of each yom tov which generates the mitzvos which Hakadosh Baruch Hu commands us to keep that day. Each yom tov, if properly appreciated and taken advantage of, can be a time of unique spiritual growth. This volume collects twenty years (1999-2018) of divrei Torah that provide insight and guidance regarding the obligations and opportunities that we each have during this season of spiritual freedom. We hope that making them available in a sefer will, b'ezras Hashem, help each of us take maximal advantage of the unique opportunities intrinsic to Pesach, Sefira, and Shavuos. The divrei Torah contained herein were originally written by our rebbeim for publication on TorahWeb.org. The realities of the time pressures with which these Torah leaders function on a daily basis result in the divrei Torah on the web site often not being sufficiently edited, missing mareh mekomos, etc. These shortcomings were addressed for the version of the divrei Torah included in this volume.

Book A Jewish Guide to the Mysterious

Download or read book A Jewish Guide to the Mysterious written by Rabbi Pinchas Taylor and published by Mosaica Press. This book was released on 2020-06-15 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern science is the most accurate lens of reality that humanity has developed so far. Science is crucial to humanity’s health, safety, and development. Still, the lens of science only “sees” a thin slice of the totality of existence. Much of the human experience cannot be simply explained by standard quantifiable tests. Many people have become aware of the limits and shortcomings of scientific knowledge and have also realized that our perpetual hunger for spiritual understanding is real and undeniable. Many of us sense that there is something beyond. Throughout various periods of history and various cultures and societies, people have been interested in the mysterious and the paranormal. This yearning is rooted in the soul’s search for true spirituality. A Jewish Guide to the Mysterious, written by one of contemporary Judaism’s leading scholars and teachers, clearly explains classic Torah views on intriguing phenomena, such as dreams, astrology, time travel, alien life, reincarnation, ESP and auras, angels, demons, ghosts, and even such topics as the lost city of Atlantis and the Bermuda Triangle. Read this fascinating book and be amazed.

Book excerpt: Everyone wants to be happy, but is happiness enough? It's not. We go to simchas; we wish each other chag sameach; but do we really understand the profound meaning of living in a steady state of joy? How is simchah different from - and far superior to - the more fleeting and elusive emotion of happiness? How can one have simchah even during times of sadness and even mourning? How is simchah cultivated through our holiday celebrations, through such practical mitzvos as tefillin, mezuzah, the laws of family purity, and through such significant rites of passage as bris milah, pidyon haben, and more? In his refreshingly practical style, Rabbi Abraham J. Twerski M.D. has produced an unparalleled work on simchah, the single character trait that may be the secret to success in all aspects of observance and learning. A fast read with a heavy emphasis on how to, this is a Dr. Twerski book you'll be recommending to friends and family for years to come.
