Book Day to day Stability of the Auditory Threshold in Noise exposed and Non noise exposed Air Force Personnel

Download or read book Day to day Stability of the Auditory Threshold in Noise exposed and Non noise exposed Air Force Personnel written by Lennart L. Kopra and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Short-term cumulative temporary threshold shift in noise-exposed Air Force personnel was investigated. Daily pure-tone audiometric tests were administered on five consecutive mornings to three groups of men. Twenty-seven flight-line men had noise exposure during the test week; 24 flight-line men had no noise exposure during test week; 52 men had non-flight-line jobs. Analysis of audiometric data showed that: (a) Most mean thresholds in the three groups on Tuesday through Friday were better than mean thresholds on Monday. Improvement in measured auditory sensitivity during the test week is interpreted as indicative of a learning effect. (b) Intra-subject variability in thresholds at 4000 cps and at 6000 cps was not related to threshold sensitivity. (c) No significant cumulative short-term temporary threshold shift occurred among the noise-exposed men during the five-day test period.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Institute of Medicine carried out a study mandated by Congress and sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide an assessment of several issues related to noise-induced hearing loss and tinnitus associated with service in the Armed Forces since World War II. The resulting book, Noise and Military Service: Implications for Hearing Loss and Tinnitus, presents findings on the presence of hazardous noise in military settings, levels of noise exposure necessary to cause hearing loss or tinnitus, risk factors for noise-induced hearing loss and tinnitus, the timing of the effects of noise exposure on hearing, and the adequacy of military hearing conservation programs and audiometric testing. The book stresses the importance of conducting hearing tests (audiograms) at the beginning and end of military service for all military personnel and recommends several steps aimed at improving the military services' prevention of and surveillance for hearing loss and tinnitus. The book also identifies research needs, emphasizing topics specifically related to military service.

Book Current Hearing Threshold Levels for Noise Exposed U S Air Force Personnel One Year s Reportings

Download or read book Current Hearing Threshold Levels for Noise Exposed U S Air Force Personnel One Year s Reportings written by Harrell C Sutherland (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hearing threshold levels of noise-exposed U.S. Air Force military and civilian personnel are presented and compared to the general, noninstitutionalized U.S. population. The U.S. Air Force military personnel show better hearing than the U.S. Air Force civilians or the U.S. population. The Air Force civilians have hearing as good as or better than the U.S. population except at the higher audiometric frequencies in the 45-54-year age range. The relatively good hearing for noise-exposed U.S. Air Force personnel is attributed partly to the exercise of minimum hearing level entrance requirements. However, the existence of a comprehensive hearing conservation program since 1956 is probably the main contributor to the good hearing in spite of exposure to potentially hazardous noise.

Book Hearing Threshold Levels of Non job noise exposed Air Force Personnel

Download or read book Hearing Threshold Levels of Non job noise exposed Air Force Personnel written by Lennart L. Kopra and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pure-tone threshold tests were administered with the Rudmose ARJ-3 automatic audiometer to 446 non-job-noise-exposed Air Force personnel. Results showed that (a) the hearing threshold levels of the non-job-exposed personnel were similar to the thresholds of comparable age groups reported in other studies; (b) the hearing levels of the 18- to 24-year-old group differed appreciably from the hearing levels of age groups above 25 years of age; (3) when the thresholds of the left and right ears of the total group were compared, poorer thresholds were noted for the left ears at almost all test frequencies; and (d) previous exposure to gunfire was not significantly related to hearing level.

This book was released on 1976 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hearing threshold levels as reported on forms received at the USAF Hearing Conservation Data Registry were studied. Forms received during January through June 1975 were included. Median hearing levels for both military and civilian USAF personnel were found to be generally better than in the noninstitutionalized United States population.

Book Central Repository for Hearing Conservation Data

Download or read book Central Repository for Hearing Conservation Data written by Daryle L. Waldron and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air Force Regulation 160-3, 'Hazardous Noise Exposure, ' has as its purpose the establishment of a program to minimize the undesirable effects of noise on Air Force personnel. Specifically, the regulatory sections of AFR 160-3 require that the Medical Service: (1) identify, designate, and monitor areas where personnel are likely to be exposed to hazardous noise levels; (2) identify those who are routinely assigned tasks in these areas; (3) establish a baseline or reference audiogram for each of these individuals; (4) fit, issue, and supervise the use of protective equipment; (5) set up and carry out an audiometric monitoring program as a means of detecting threshold shifts in the hearing of those who have a reference audiogram; (6) set up and maintain an education program which supports the over-all hearing conservation goal; (7) accomplish Forms 1490 ('Hearing Conservation Data'), one copy of which is to be sent to the Central Repository, School of Aviation Medicine, USAF, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas. This report attempts to summarize and share some of the information gained from the first year's experience in handling and examining the Forms 1490, and in communicating with those personal responsible for their completion.
