And his old teacher, Dawa Tinley, seems somehow menacing. When Gunnar mysteriously disappears, Gwenn and Arkady form an alliance that will bring both danger and new promise to the peoples of Yrth. Meanwhile, Huw and Katkin find comfortable shelter in an ice-locked valley, until the addition of two orphaned children to the family leaves Katkin feeling trapped and miserable. After Huw's arrest for murder, she must decide whether to run or stand by his side. The choice becomes even more difficult when Katkin meets up with an old love. But a chance meeting steers her to Starruthe just in time to deliver Gwenn's baby daughter Myriadne. Now that the Dawnmaid has been born, it will take a miracle to hide her from Maggrai, who has returned from the future with a weapon of total annihilation. But Gunnar also has a secret weapon, though he is reluctant to use it. Will he accept his true nature before Maggrai's wrath destroys the last hope of the Firaithi? Download or read book Wooden Fishing Boats of Scotland written by James A. Pottinger and published by The History Press. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the gradual phasing out of wooden fishing boats of Scotland it is timely to record some of these handsome vessels. In the years from 1960–80 boat builders produced some of their most shapely and graceful craft, a testament to the skill of both the builders and designers. Initially the designs were a collaboration of builders and skippers, but later the implementation of statutory rules demanded a more structured approach by qualified naval architects, which inevitably resulted in a certain degree of standardisation. James A. Pottinger’s new illustrated volume concentrates solely on the graceful wooden boats, large and small, regarded by many to be the best looking boats of all. Many boats are photographed at sea, while other views range from repairs being carried out to the more melancholy sight of beautiful craft being cut up. Boats were once scrapped only due to old age, but sadly political factors now often dictate the destruction of the classic wooden craft included here.

Book excerpt: Since Archie Weller was runner-up for the first Vogel Award in 1980 for his novel The Day of the Dog, he has become an important voice in contemporary Indigenous writing. The Window Seat is a collection of his best fiction and a tribute to his contribution to Australian literature. These stories are honest, brutal and moving. In 'The Window Seat', we witness an old woman's final journey home through the eyes of the disgruntled white traveller who sits beside her; in 'Stolen Car', a young Aboriginal man learns his first lesson in rough justice; and in 'Dead Dingo', we see another rallying against what his friends, life and fate offer him. Together these powerful stories present a rich and rewarding reading experience.

The Polynesians had many myths and legends, but through the ages they had been circulated by word of mouth, and not recorded. They were recalled from the vast storehouse of time and memory by the old priests who treasured the old traditions, and by the kahuna or sorcerers who constantly relived the legends and sang the old songs. Polynesians have always had a strong romantic appeal to the outside world, possibly because of their enchanting island surroundings, their simple life and natural graces. Their legends have been woven into rich tapestries in this classic text.
