Book excerpt: "Adolescent Dating Violence: Outcomes, Challenges and Digital Tools summarizes the latest discussion about challenges in adolescent dating violence (DV) and digital dating abuse (DDA), emphasizing the influence of digital tools and seeking to identify similarities and differences between online and offline types of abuse. The first introductory chapter presents an overview of outcomes and future challenges of dating abuse in adolescents, focusing on the recent studies and examining prevalence, risk and protective factors and consequences of DV. Chapter two addresses a research involving quantitative and qualitative complementary studies with participants involved in same-sex relationships, aiming to give a more complete portrait of another aspect involved in the dating violence problem. The third chapter discusses the psychological traits of the adolescents perpetrating dating violence in order to identify the problematic characteristics that are related to the abuse and provide the most accurate intervention in terms of prevention. Chapter four introduces the problematic use of digital tools, explaining how they can foster abuse in the context of dating relationships, focusing on the prevalence and impacts of this emergent important phenomenon. Chapter five discusses sexting, an emerging phenomenon in dating relationships, associated with new psychosocial and digital risks. This new form of online sexual violence may increase the vulnerability of adolescent at a crucial stage in their sexual-affective development. Accordingly, the practices of sexting and its meaning in the dating relationship are characterized. Cyberbullying is another abusive typology that has been related to DDA, which is given special focus and attention in chapter six. Finally, the last chapter intends to review evidence-based DDA intervention and prevention, considering the different variables related to them, specifically the sociodemographic, risk and protective factors"--

Book Teen Dating Violence

Download or read book Teen Dating Violence written by Rochelle L.. Rowley and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much of the research on teen dating violence has attempted to take the ideas associated with adult domestic violence and intimate partner violence and apply it to teen relationships. This research was conducted to discover the underlying dimensions of teen relationships and the violence that exists in these relationships in order to provide a conceptual idea of who should be targeted, with what information, and at what age with prevention efforts aimed at reducing teen dating violence. Wichita Kansas has implemented a variety of prevention and intervention strategies aimed at reducing the prevalence of teen dating violence in the community for almost a decade. Participants in this study were recruited from 6th through 10th graders who were scheduled to receive intervention curriculum in their schools. Several items from the General Youth Relationship Survey-Student Version (Hertzog, Matson, & Rowley) were analyzed using factor analysis to discover the underlying dimensions of teen dating violence. Physical/emotional abuse, monitoring and controlling behaviors, and relational entitlements were the key dimensions gleaned from this analysis. An examination of the factor score means with several student characteristics were also analyzed. Girls were found to witness more teen dating violence in their friend's relationships as well as hold more agreement with relational entitlements than boys. African American teens were more likely to report witnessing teen dating violence than Hispanic or white teens; however, Hispanic teens were more likely to report that a person has certain relational entitlements over their partner. This study also found that, in order to provide actual prevention, efforts should be targeted towards late elementary to early middle school-aged students.

Book Incorporating Gender Equity and Bystander Intervention Content Into School based Teen Dating Violence Prevention Programs

Download or read book Incorporating Gender Equity and Bystander Intervention Content Into School based Teen Dating Violence Prevention Programs written by Morgan Bryan and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teen dating violence is a persistent and pervasive threat to adolescents development. Although bullying prevention programs for adolescents have become ubiquitous in recent years, many of these programs address bullying in isolation from teen dating violence, despite evidence showing a strong relationship between bullying and teen dating violence. In this thesis, I address this disconnect in current teen dating violence prevention program development by reviewing current literature on the topics of adolescent development, bullying and teen dating violence, and prevention program curriculum. I analyze current and successful evidence-based teen dating violence prevention programs based on existing literature and provide suggestions to improve future programs such as the addition of gender norm and autonomy-promoting content into program curriculum. I then provide an example of a local teen dating violence prevention program, the Penn State Athletes Take Action program, developed by Centre County Womens Resource Center. I provide specific suggestions for program improvement based on data collected from three middle schools in State College, Pennsylvania. The content of this thesis provides implications for combining evidence-based bullying and teen dating violence prevention components to promote healthy interpersonal relationships.

Download or read book Caring Partners a 5 session Teen Dating Violence Prevention Program for High School Freshman written by Anna Reeves and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When looking at teen relationships, many are plagued with toxic behavior and teen dating violence. These relationships with teen dating violence have the potential to not only cause short term damage such as diminished self-esteem, substance abuse, or eating disorders but also incredible long-term damage. Teen dating violence has been linked to increased domestic violence and abuse in future adult relationships. A crucial part of preventing these toxic behaviors is providing intervention that teaches all students healthy relationships skills. This program curriculum works to educate students regarding teen dating violence. However, it also goes one step further by connecting students with relevant intervention techniques and equipping them with skills that will encourage them to engage in healthy dating behavior.

Book A Feasibility Study of an Adolescent Dating Violence Intervention

Download or read book A Feasibility Study of an Adolescent Dating Violence Intervention written by Amy L. Kolenc and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adolescent dating violence (ADV) is a prevalent health problem with significant negative outcomes. Prevention programs have been developed and tested, but are primarily directed at all teens regardless of their level of risk for ADV. Teens who have experienced violence at home have been shown to be at increased risk for ADV. The purpose of this early feasibility study was to determine if teens living in a Battered Women's shelter with their mothers could be recruited for a study of an intervention utilizing mentoring and motivational interviewing to prevent ADV. The study also examined whether senior nursing students could implement this intervention with fidelity and whether the intervention was acceptable to teens. Findings indicated that teens could be recruited, senior nursing students could implement the intervention with fidelity, and the intervention was acceptable to teens. Findings from this study will be used to develop a pilot study in which the effectiveness of the intervention will be tested.
