Book Date Palm Waste as a RE Source in Egypt A technical and economic analysis

Download or read book Date Palm Waste as a RE Source in Egypt A technical and economic analysis written by Vigneshwar Murali and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2021-03-30 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2020 in the subject Economy - Environment economics, grade: 1.7, University of Kassel, language: English, abstract: The main objective of this thesis is to increase the usage of natural sources available in Egypt, therefore by increasing renewable energy usage efficiently and economically. Tons of date palm waste are being burned or buried without any use, so this thesis helps to understand the importance of the material in the region, how it can change the country’s energy production by series of experimental trials and analysis thereby, promoting green energy. Along with the date palm material, how other locally available resources from animals e.g. (chicken manure) can be mixed and used as a supplement for the material availability also being acknowledged. Another objective is to analyze whether it is economically feasible to use date palm leaf stem, compared with another biofuel, i.e.(wood) and hybridize the energy production with fossil fuels. This work is about bioenergy in the region Egypt, where the biomass, date palm trees are grown and cultivated from several centuries. The waste of the date palm trees which in abundantly available i.e. leaf stem has a huge potential with its high HHV, calorific value and low moisture content as a renewable energy source additionally, chicken manure as a supplement to use the natural resources to the core and how can it be utilized to cut down the fossil fuel resources and increase use of renewable energy. The technical analysis deals with the fuel characterization for the ultimate and proximate analysis, where the former determines the C, O, N, and H content in the biomass, the latter determines the Fixed Moisture and Carbon, Ash Content and Volatile matter content in the biomass in comparison with wood. The economic analysis deals with the cost calculations for all the technical analysis process with reference to CAPEX, OPEX with respect to Egypt, the best suited methodology, environmental-socio impacts, SWOT analysis identifying chances and challenges, feasibility of the biomass technology compared with wood and suggesting the potential to hybridize with fossil fuels, with limitations of emissions factor, ash disposal and chlorine control, achieving biomass energy production through date palm waste on a large scale run in the near future.

In this book a group of analysts from the Asian Development Bank and from the East West Center propose a means of constructing useful economic evaluations of the impacts of development projects on the environments in which they are constructed. This study demands the systematic evaluation of all the intentional and unintentional consequences of development initiatives before they are determined upon. Book Resource Recovery from Waste

Download or read book Resource Recovery from Waste written by Miriam Otoo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-03-20 with total page 1257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humans generate millions of tons of waste every day. This waste is rich in water, nutrients, energy and organic compounds. Yet waste is not being managed in a way that permits us to derive value from its reuse, whilst millions of farmers struggle with depleted soils and lack of water. This book shows how Resource Recovery and Reuse (RRR) could create livelihoods, enhance food security, support green economies, reduce waste and contribute to cost recovery in the sanitation chain. While many RRR projects fully depend on subsidies and hardly survive their pilot phase, hopeful signs of viable approaches to RRR are emerging around the globe including low- and middle-income countries. These enterprises or projects are tapping into entrepreneurial initiatives and public ̶ private partnerships, leveraging private capital to help realize commercial or social value, shifting the focus from treatment for waste disposal to treatment of waste as a valuable resource for safe reuse. The book provides a compendium of business options for energy, nutrients and water recovery via 24 innovative business models based on an in-depth analysis of over 60 empirical cases, of which 47 from around the world are described and evaluated in a systematic way. The focus is on organic municipal, agro-industrial and food waste, including fecal sludge, supporting a diverse range of business models with potential for large-scale out-and up-scaling.

Book Regional analysis of the nationally determined contributions in the Near East and North Africa

Download or read book Regional analysis of the nationally determined contributions in the Near East and North Africa written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2022-03-07 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides a unique, sector-specific synthesis of the agriculture, water and land use sectors in the nationally determined contributions from Near East and North Africa. It summarizes the substantial contributions already put forward by countries, opportunities for further action and the gaps, barriers and needs that will need to be addressed if the region is to raise mitigation and adaptation ambitions. The findings of this report will help member countries to reflect on their progress in advancing toward nationally determined contributions priorities for agriculture, water and land use, and associated national climate goals including related targets under the Sustainable Development Goals. The analysis also helps to make clear the links between the nationally determined contributions from the region and the ongoing work of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in support of the Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture (KJWA). Finally, the report serves as a guide to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, as well as other international actors, of the support that will be required to help countries in the region move forward to implement agriculture, water and land use priorities in their NDCs and ensure that future commitments from the sector are quantifiable, verifiable and sufficiently ambitious.

Book Decoupling 2

Download or read book Decoupling 2 written by Ernst Ulrich Weizsäcker and published by UN. This book was released on 2014 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report explores technological possibilities and opportunities for developing and developed countries to accelerate decoupling and reap environmental and economic benefits of increased resource productivity. It examines policy options successful in helping different countries improve resource productivity in various sectors of their economy, avoiding negative impacts on the environment. It does not seem possible for a global economy based on the current unsustainable patterns of resource use to continue into the future. Economic consequences of these patterns are already apparent in increases in resource prices, increased price volatility and disruption of environmental systems. The environment impacts are also leading to potentially irreversible changes to the world's ecosystems, often with direct effects on people and the economy - for example: damage to health, water shortages, loss of fish stocks or increased storm damage. This report shows that much of the policy design 'know-how' needed to achieve decoupling is present in terms of legislation, incentive systems, and institutional reform. Many countries have tried these out with tangible results, encouraging others to study and where appropriate replicate and scale up such practices and successes
