Book Deep Inelastic Scattering

Download or read book Deep Inelastic Scattering written by Robin Devenish and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2011-04-28 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an up-to-date, self-contained account of deep inelastic scattering in high-energy physics, intended for graduate students and physicists new to the subject. It covers the classic results which led to the quark-parton model of hadrons and the establishment of quantum chromodynamics as the theory of the strong nuclear force, in addition to new vistas in the subject opened up by the electron-proton collider HERA. The extraction of parton momentum distribution functions, a key input for physics at hadron colliders such as the Tevatron at Fermi Lab and the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, is described in detail. The challenges of the HERA data at 'low x' are described and possible explanations in terms of gluon dynamics and other models outlined. Other chapters cover: jet production at large momentum transfer and the determination of the strong coupling constant, electroweak interactions at very high momentum transfers, the extension of deep inelastic techniques to include hadronic probes, a summary of fully polarised inelastic scattering and the spin structure of the nucleon, and finally a brief account of methods in searching for signals 'beyond the standard model'.

Book Deep Inelastic Scattering Dis 2006 Proceedings Of The 14th International Workshop

Download or read book Deep Inelastic Scattering Dis 2006 Proceedings Of The 14th International Workshop written by Masahiro Kuze and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2007-01-23 with total page 996 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings present the most up-to-date status of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) physics. Topics such as structure function measurements and phenomenology, quantum chromodynamics (QCD) studies in DIS and photoproduction, spin physics and diffractive interactions are reviewed in detail, with emphasis on those studies that push the test of QCD and the Standard Model to the limits of their present range of validity, towards both the very high and the very low four-momentum transfers in lepton-proton scattering.

Book Deep Inelastic Scattering And Related Phenomena

Download or read book Deep Inelastic Scattering And Related Phenomena written by Giulio D'agostini and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-03-15 with total page 814 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This workshop is the fourth of a series initiated in Durham (March 93), followed by Eilat (February 94) and Paris (April 95). The large interest and the great inflow of experimental data, coming mainly from HERA, are some of the reasons behind the decision to have this annual meeting, presently the most important one for this area of research. During the workshop, experimental results and theoretical aspects have been reported on subjects, which have been organised by working groups on: 1) hadron structure functions; 2) photoproduction and photon structure; 3) diffractive interactions; 4) hadronic final states; 5) spin effects in lepton nucleon scattering; 6) special session on theoretical advances. While the contributions to the working groups offer hot material for specialists, the reports by the conveners, as well as other contributions to the plenary sessions, offer to nonspecialists a complete overview of this research field.

Book Deep Inelastic Structure Functions from Electron Scattering on Hydrogen Deuterium and Iron at 0 6 GeV Sup 2 Le Q Sup 2 Le 30 0 GeV Sup 2

Download or read book Deep Inelastic Structure Functions from Electron Scattering on Hydrogen Deuterium and Iron at 0 6 GeV Sup 2 Le Q Sup 2 Le 30 0 GeV Sup 2 written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report the final results from experiment E140, a recent deep inelastic electron-deuterium and electron-iron scattering experiment at SLAC. In addition, we present the results of a combined global analysis of all SLAC deep inelastic electron-hydrogen and electron-deuterium cross section measurements between 1970 and 1983. Data from seven earlier experiments are re-radiatively corrected and normalized to experiment E140. We report extractions of R(x, Q2) and F2(x, Q2) for hydrogen and deuterium over the entire SLAC kinematic range: .06(less-than or equal to) x (less-than or equal to).90 and 0.6(less-than or equal to) Q2 (less-than or equal to)30.0 (GeV2). We fine that R{sup p} = R{sup d}, as expected by QCD. Extracted values of R(x, Q2) are significantly larger than predictions based on QCD and on QCD with the inclusion of kinematic target mass terms. This difference indicates that dynamical higher twist effects may be important in the SLAC kinematic range. A best fit empirical model of R(x, Q2) is used to extract F2 from each cross section measurement. These F2 extractions are compared with F2 data from EMC and BCDMS. Agreement is observed with EMC when the EMC data are multiplied by 1.07. Agreement is observed with BCDMS over a limited range in x. The ratios of F2{sup d}/F2{sup p} are examined for Q2 dependence. We observe a significant negative slope for x (less-than or equal to) .6, and a significant positive slope above x> .7, in excellent agreement with predictions based on QCD with the inclusion of kinematic target mass terms. 111 refs., 40 figs., 34 tabs.

This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract : An analytic massive total cross section of photon-proton scattering is derived, which has geometric scaling. A geometric scaling is used to perform a global analysis of the deep inelastic scattering data on inclusive structure function F 2 measured in lepton–hadron scattering experiments at small values of Bjorken x . It is shown that the descriptions of the inclusive structure function F 2 and longitudinal structure function F L are improved with the massive analytic structure function, which may imply the gluon saturation effect dominating the parton evolution process at HERA. The inclusion of the heavy quarks prevent the divergence of the lepton–hadron cross section, which plays a significant role in the description of the photoproduction region.
