Book excerpt: A DARK TALE OF BLOOD, POWER AND MAGIC Romantic, compelling and brimming with sexual tension, 'Dark Love' will imprint on your mind and leave you with a thirst for more. The Two Vampires: #1 Dark Wine #2 Dark Blood #3 Dark Love #4 Dark Moors This series contains hot and steamy romance scenes, and mature content; aimed at readers of 18+ years. Sarah's world has turned upside down. Now a vampire she will need to battle blood lust and decide what to do with her life. How will she manage to look after her kids? Will Daniel stick by her? Will they find a purpose for their powers? Extract from 'Dark Love': Sarah felt a spasm race over her body. Her eyes jerked open as she took a big gulp of fresh air. She looked around and saw conifers in every direction. The light was fading. What the hell was she doing; sleeping in the forest? Who was looking after Megan and Bea? And why the hell was her throat burning like mad? Urhh, she was so thirsty. She needed to drink badly, her throat hurt - it was parched. She focused her attention on her ears and listened out for water. Nothing. Then she heard a pounding heart. It was rhythmic and alluring. She felt like she was slipping into a trance. Sarah jumped to her feet. She started to move towards the sound - without even realizing what she was doing: Stalking her prey. She spotted a young deer ahead. Its nose was rummaging through the leaves, looking for food. She was beautiful; her fur was a rich coppery red. Sarah watched the deer and located its pulse at its neck. She watched it entranced; beating steadily. Sarah's thirst drew her out from behind a tree. The deer raised its head and looked directly at her with wide startled eyes. Sarah looked back, one second of connection, before it turned and ran. Sarah acted on instinct; she bolted forward. She did not know why, but she could not let the deer escape. She knew one thing: If she could only reach that deer, have it for herself - it would sooth her thirst. It would make her feel better. She needed the deer. Sarah sprang, landing on its back. It crippled beneath her, unable to support her weight. Her eyes were again drawn to the pulse at the neck. She admired the smooth expanse of silky fur before her, while she held on tight to stop herself falling away, to stop the deer breaking free. Her teeth felt strange. They ached. They longed to pierce the neck before her. Her mouth opened as her head moved slowly forwards, entranced. She held the struggling deer very still and tentatively grazed the neck with her teeth. A faint line of blood appeared. She furrowed her forehead in confusion; were her teeth that sharp?

Book Horror Comics in Black and White

Download or read book Horror Comics in Black and White written by Richard J. Arndt and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2013-01-21 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1954, the comic book industry instituted the Comics Code, a set of self-regulatory guidelines imposed to placate public concern over gory and horrific comic book content, effectively banning genuine horror comics. Because the Code applied only to color comics, many artists and writers turned to black and white to circumvent the Code's narrow confines. With the 1964 Creepy #1 from Warren Publishing, black-and-white horror comics experienced a revival continuing into the early 21st century, an important step in the maturation of the horror genre within the comics field as a whole. This generously illustrated work offers a comprehensive history and retrospective of the black-and-white horror comics that flourished on the newsstands from 1964 to 2004. With a catalog of original magazines, complete credits and insightful analysis, it highlights an important but overlooked period in the history of comics.

Book extra: Includes a sample chapter from 'Dark Love' (Book 3 of 'The Two Vampires' series) Extract from 'Dark Blood' Sarah woke up. She felt odd sensations rippling through her body - not exactly painful, although not pleasurable either. It felt like little waves of energy were traveling down her arms and into her fingers, rejuvenating her cells and tissues. Tentatively she moved her thumb, just to see how it would feel. Immediately she felt arms tighten around her. 'Sarah?' She felt cool fingers trace her jaw, touch her lips. 'Sarah - can you hear me?' The voice sounded familiar - an attractive southern drawl. She wanted to open her eyes and see the face that accompanied the sound, but they felt so heavy. The waves of energy continued around her body. She felt them moving down her torso, into her organs and all over her skin. They moved down her legs, making her muscles feel strong again, stronger than they had ever been. 'Sarah?' That voice. Lips kissing her eyelids. The waves of energy started to move upwards, from her heart, up her neck - soothing, enlivening. She felt them in her throat, healing all her tissues, calming her aches and nerves. They traveled over her lips and up over her nose and eyes. Sarah concentrated on the sensations, wondering what was going on. She breathed in deeply and smelt a delicious masculine scent and a fresh forest smell. She scrunched up her face, stretching it in preparation for opening her eyes, as she felt tingles enter her mind, clearing the fog from her thoughts. Kisses swept over her cheeks, gentle fingers stroked her hair, her neck, her heart. 'Sarah, open your eyes.'

Book excerpt: A DARK TALE OF BLOOD, POWER AND MAGIC Romantic, compelling and brimming with sexual tension, 'Dark Wine' will imprint on your mind and leave you with a thirst for more. Sarah lives in a small Canadian town with her two daughters. When her husband disappears the same night she meets a beautiful and charismatic man her world is thrown into turmoil. What has happened to Jo? Who is this sexy mysterious man? As Sarah tries to answer these questions her life takes a dangerous turn . . . The Two Vampires: Book 1: Dark Wine Book 2: Dark Blood Book 3: Dark Love Out now : Book 4: Dark Moors Contains hot and steamy romance scenes, and mature content; aimed at readers of 18+ years. Extract from 'Dark Wine' Jo came awake slowly. He was faced with dappled green and brown light and he was confused. His throat hurt and his head felt fuzzy. He was very, very thirsty. Where on Earth was he? What was going on? In his sleepy haze he thought back to the previous night. He had been going to see his sister. He remembered leaving the house, then some weird visions; vampires and bats and the quarry. He remembered the bat turning into a man. A VAMPIRE. The vampire had snapped his neck. Oh God. He gasped and sat up straight, opening his eyes as he did. He was alone in the woods. He had no idea where or how he'd gotten there. Oh, my throat. He really needed a drink. Looking about he saw trees in every direction. It was daytime but only a little light shone through the branches, even though many leaves littered the forest floor. It must be early morning. He wasn't cold but his eyes hurt, especially when he looked at the light. His skin felt itchy. He needed something. Water. He listened hard and thought he heard trickling nearby. Jo pushed himself to his feet, stumbling, searching for water. After about two-hundred meters he found a small stream and scooped up some water to drink. He sucked it up but it tasted cold and foul. It didn't quench his thirst at all. He turned, seeing someone approaching; a dark man dragging a mute girl by his side. The man looked familiar. Then, with a jolt Jo realised it was the man by his car last night. The man who had snapped his neck. The man who must have killed him. However, he felt no anger towards him, he actually felt strangely attracted. Jo rose and walked towards him. His hair was long, for a man, and his eyes were black. He was tall, probably 6'4'', with a lean frame. The girl with him looked small and fragile, with red hair and a dainty neck. It looked exquisite. He could see thin veins exposed as the vampire pulled her head to the side. Jo walked forward fascinated, he reached out his hand and stroked her neck, and then he was overtaken by desire to quench his thirst. He grabbed her round the waist, yanked aside her head by the hair and felt his teeth lengthening as he sank them into her fine neck. And he drank. Drank for his life. Or his death. The girl's warm blood flowed from her veins down his throat giving him life. He could feel its power rushing into him. Rejuvenating his cells, making his heart race and his senses come alive. His sense of smell came into focus and he breathed in the smell of the girl's blood as he took her life, then released her and she fell to the floor. Slumped, dead, pathetic and used. Wiping his mouth he staggered back and leant against a tree, new sensations overwhelming him. He could feel every inch of his body come into acute awareness. He could feel the redheaded girl's blood traveling to the extremities of his body, rushing through his veins to his internal organs, his brain and even his toes. As it reached his soles he could feel the earth beneath his shoes and his connection to the ground and the trees . . .

Book The Weird World of Eerie Publications

Download or read book The Weird World of Eerie Publications written by Mike Howlett and published by Feral House. This book was released on 2010-11-30 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eerie Publications' horror magazines brought blood and bad taste to America's newsstands from 1965 through 1975. Ultra-gory covers and bottom-of-the-barrel production values lent an air of danger to every issue, daring you to look at (and purchase) them. The Weird of World of Eerie Publications introduces the reader to Myron Fass, the gun-toting megalomaniac publisher who, with tyranny and glee, made a career of fishing pocketbook change from young readers with the most insidious sort of exploitation. You'll also meet Carl Burgos, who, as editor of Eerie Publications, ground his axe against the entire comics industry. Slumming comic art greats and unknown hacks were both employed by Eerie to plagiarize the more inspired work of pre-Code comic art of the 1950s. Somehow these lowbrow abominations influenced a generation of artists who proudly blame career choices (and mental problems) on Eerie Publications. One of them, Stephen R. Bissette (Swamp Thing, Taboo, Tyrant), provides the introduction for this volume. Here's the sordid background behind this mysterious comics publisher, featuring astonishingly red reproductions of many covers and the most spectacularly creepy art.

Book Encyclopedia of Cryptozoology

Download or read book Encyclopedia of Cryptozoology written by Michael Newton and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2016-10-05 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On every continent and in every nation, animals unrecognized by modern science are reported on a daily basis. People passionately pursue these creatures--the name given to their field of study is cryptozoology. Coined in the 1950s, the term literally means the science of hidden animals. When the International Society of Cryptozoology (ISC) was formed in 1982, the founders declared that the branch of science is also concerned with "the possible existence of known animals in areas where they are not supposed to occur (either now or in the past) as well as the unknown persistence of presumed extinct animals to the present time or to the recent past...what makes an animal of interest to cryptology is that it is unexpected." This reference work presents a "flesh and blood" view of cryptozoology. Here, 2,744 entries are listed, the majority of which each describe one specific creature or type of creature. Other entries cover 742 places where unnamed cryptids are said to appear; profiles of 77 groups and 112 individuals who have contributed to the field; descriptions of objects and events important to the subject; and essays on cryptotourism and hoaxes, for example. Appendices offer a timeline of zoological discoveries, annotated lists of movies and television series with cryptozoological themes, a list of crypto-fiction titles and a list of Internet websites devoted to cryptozoology.
