Book excerpt: Welcome to Dark Moon Falls…where everything is not as it seems. There are secrets, shifters, romance, villains, and so much more. There are two ways for a one-night stand to turn sour. One is not being able to perform. And the other? Well, I’ll leave that to your imagination. Tucker was my one-night stand, and he had no problem performing. I’d been on my way to start a new life in the big city when I stopped in the Little Raven Bar to sow some wild oats, or at least have a drink to celebrate the beginning of my new adventure. Tucker was hot as hell and caught my eye the minute I entered the establishment. My night with Tucker was amazing and a huge mistake. But fate had a funny way of turning things around. Now I’m on my way back to Dark Moon Falls and my old room at my aunt’s. My dream job in the big city, now nothing more than a pipe dream. Josie was a sight for sore eyes after a tough day on the job. Her quick wit and pretty face completely enamored me. After a few drinks and a desire to continue the party somewhere else, I found myself in her hotel room doing shots of tequila into all hours of the morning. There’s an old saying: tequila has a tendency to make your clothes fall off, and we were no exception. Everything was great until I woke up to find her not only gone but so were my keys along with my truck. I should have arrested Josie when she mistakenly showed up at my doorstep looking for a house cleaning job, but those old feelings she’d sparked in me that night came flooding back. Now I only wanted to be around her every second.

Book The Psalms of Isaak Series

Download or read book The Psalms of Isaak Series written by Ken Scholes and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2017-08-15 with total page 1536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This discounted ebundle of The Psalms of Isaak series includes: Lamentation, Canticle, Antiphon, and Requiem “Ken Scholes creates vivid characters, a world thick with detail, and wonders we've never seen before.” —Orson Scott Card The Psalms of Isaak series take place on an Earth so far in the distant future that our time is not even a memory; a world where magick is commonplace and great areas of the planet are impassable wastes. But human nature hasn't changed through the ages: War and faith and love still move princes and nations. Soon all the Kingdoms of the Named Lands will be at each others' throats, as alliances are challenged and hidden plots are uncovered. Lamentation — An ancient weapon has completely destroyed the city of Windwir. From many miles away, Rudolfo, Lord of the Nine Forest Houses, sees the horrifying column of smoke rising. He knows that war is coming to the Named Lands. Canticle — As the feast honoring General Rudolfo’s first-born son begins, the doors of the hall fly open and invisible assassins attack. All of Rudolfo's noble guests are slain, including Hanric, the Marsh Queen's Shadow. And on the Keeper's Gate, a strange figure appears, with a message for Petronus, the Hidden Pope. Antiphon — The ancient past is not dead. The hand of the Wizard Kings still reaches out to challenge the Androfrancine Order, to control the magick and technology that they sought to understand and claim for their own. Requiem — Who is the Crimson Empress, and what does her conquest of the Named Lands really mean? Who holds the keys to the Moon Wizard's Tower? Hidden truths reveal even deeper truths, and nothing is as it seemed to be. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Book Isaac Newton

Download or read book Isaac Newton written by James Gleick and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2007-12-18 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Isaac Newton was born in a stone farmhouse in 1642, fatherless and unwanted by his mother. When he died in London in 1727 he was so renowned he was given a state funeral—an unheard-of honor for a subject whose achievements were in the realm of the intellect. During the years he was an irascible presence at Trinity College, Cambridge, Newton imagined properties of nature and gave them names—mass, gravity, velocity—things our science now takes for granted. Inspired by Aristotle, spurred on by Galileo’s discoveries and the philosophy of Descartes, Newton grasped the intangible and dared to take its measure, a leap of the mind unparalleled in his generation. James Gleick, the author of Chaos and Genius, and one of the most acclaimed science writers of his generation, brings the reader into Newton’s reclusive life and provides startlingly clear explanations of the concepts that changed forever our perception of bodies, rest, and motion—ideas so basic to the twenty-first century, it can truly be said: We are all Newtonians.

Book Dirtbag Massachusetts

Download or read book Dirtbag Massachusetts written by Isaac Fitzgerald and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2022-07-19 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER USA TODAY BESTSELLER Winner of the New England Book Award for Nonfiction Winner of the New Atlantic Independent Booksellers Association Nonfiction Book of the Year “The best of what memoir can accomplish... pulling no punches on the path to truth, but it always finds the capacity for grace and joy.” –Esquire, "Best Memoirs of the Year" A TIME Must-Read Book of the Year * A Rolling Stone Top Culture Pick * A Publishers Weekly Best Memoir of the Season * A Buzzfeed Book Pick * A Goodreads Readers' Most Anticipated Book * A Chicago Tribune Book Pick * A Boston.com Book You Should Read * A Los Angeles Times Book to Add to Your Reading List Isaac Fitzgerald has lived many lives. He's been an altar boy, a bartender, a fat kid, a smuggler, a biker, a prince of New England. But before all that, he was a bomb that exploded his parents' lives-or so he was told. In Dirtbag, Massachusetts, Fitzgerald, with warmth and humor, recounts his ongoing search for forgiveness, a more far-reaching vision of masculinity, and a more expansive definition of family and self. Fitzgerald's memoir-in-essays begins with a childhood that moves at breakneck speed from safety to violence, recounting an extraordinary pilgrimage through trauma to self-understanding and, ultimately, acceptance. From growing up in a Boston homeless shelter to bartending in San Francisco, from smuggling medical supplies into Burma to his lifelong struggle to make peace with his body, Fitzgerald strives to take control of his own story: one that aims to put aside anger, isolation, and entitlement to embrace the idea that one can be generous to oneself by being generous to others. Gritty and clear-eyed, loud-hearted and beautiful, Dirtbag, Massachusetts is a rollicking book that might also be a lifeline.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you want to understand the invisible, look careful at the visible. The Talmud A 'bird's eye' or rather a distant spacecraft's view of the solar system reveals an assembly of planets, terrestrial, giant and Pluto. The orbital motions are in the same sense, counter clockwise, as seen from the north of the general flattened space within which the planetary motions are confined. This state of affairs is corevolving and, more or less, coplanar. The rotations are in the same sense as the revolutions, with the strikiiig exception of Uranus whose sense of rotation is perpendicular to its plane of revolution. As time goes by, most of the planets remain fairly close to a general plane and at no time stray unduly far from it; they remain confined within a rather narrow box or disk with a large 'equatorial' extent. The most distant planet, Pluto, requires a diameter of some 80 astronomical units for the disk. One astronomical unit is the distance of the Earth to the Sun, to be more precise the length of half the major axis of the Earth's slightly elliptical orbit around the Sun, and amounts to nearly 149600000 km.
