Book Dancing With The Spirits of Shadowplay

Download or read book Dancing With The Spirits of Shadowplay written by Bonnie Breuilly-Pike and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-11 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No matter what the faith or season of the year, all human beings seek everyday epiphanies; occasions when we can experience the sacred and the beautiful in the absolute ordinary. In doing so, we come to an awakening that we cannot afford to throw away even one more unimportant day by not noticing the wonder of it all. Sometimes, we just forget to take the time to honestly see our world; most times actually. Some of the simplest things that make us feel alive, and more importantly loved, are right at our fingertips or just outside our backdoor and we constantly seem to either ignore or miss them: • A good morning kiss. • The first real day of spring every year. • An unexpected call from your significant other to just say "I love you." • The appreciative wag of your dogs' tail when you give him his favorite treat. • The scent of a newly opened rose bud. • The hug your grandchild gives you when he runs across the yard when he first sees you. However, Bonnie Pike seems to notice all of these things and more. She has the wonderful talent to put into words those feelings and emotions of life with all of its' loves as well as its' pains Do you want to come and play, and dance, and dream? Then meet Bonnie at the Superstition Mountain, just off the Apache Trail, and she will show you the way. Come and dance with the spirits of shadowplay.

Download or read book Shadow Play written by Domino Finn and published by Blood & Treasure. This book was released on with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I'm Cisco Suarez, and a week ago I was dead. Cursed into serving a clandestine shadow group, I have a lot of blood on my hands. Good thing I also have a juvenile problem with authority. I'm not taking orders anymore, and the first thing on my bucket list is bringing them down. If I'm good at anything, it's looking in dark places. But I've got shadows of my own. Horrific deeds coming back to haunt me, and not the metaphorical kind of haunting, either. I'm talking ghosts, mages, and that thing with the glowing red eyes. Just goes to show you, it really is true what they say. What goes around comes around. I only hope to give more than I get. Is resurrection overrated or what? If you like Jim Butcher, Shayne Silvers, Steve McHugh, or John Conroe, then you are going to love Domino Finn's contribution to the smart-talking MC that's perpetually stuck between a rock and a hard place. What readers are saying: ⚡⚡ "Black Magic Outlaw is a standout in a world of lookalikes." ⚡⚡ ⚡⚡ "Cisco is a tattooed, necromancing, shadow-morphing, 'Live and Let Die' meets Jack Reacher kind of guy... only better." ⚡⚡ ⚡⚡ "Urban fantasy just went up a notch." ⚡⚡ ⚡⚡ "The magic is far more imaginative than anything I have read since Sanderson." ⚡⚡ ⚡⚡ "A quantum leap in storytelling." ⚡⚡ ⚡⚡ "Cisco is the kind of character you can't help cheering for, with a mix of boyish charm, a dash of arrogance, but always the bighearted underdog." ⚡⚡ ⚡⚡ "Action junkies will love this series." ⚡⚡ ⚡⚡ "Enough dead bodies, zombies, and wizards to fill a small stadium." ⚡⚡ ⚡⚡ "Jason Bourne meets urban fantasy. Good pace, engaging lead, and fresh mythology. Loved it." ⚡⚡ ⚡⚡ "What a great path of destruction Cisco leaves..." ⚡⚡

Book MAK YONG THROUGH THE AGES KELANTAN S TRADITIONAL DANCE THEATRE

Download or read book MAK YONG THROUGH THE AGES KELANTAN S TRADITIONAL DANCE THEATRE written by Ghulam-Sarwar Yousof and published by The University of Malaya Press. This book was released on 2018-10-25 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mak yong, the ancient Malay dance theatre form, is associated principally with the southern Thai Patani province and the Malaysian state of Kelantan on the east coast of the Malay Peninsula. It is also active in Terengganu and in the Riau islands of Indonesia where it is staged in a significantly variant form. Mak yong comprises the elements of story, formal and informal spoken text, stylized dance and acting, vocal and instrumental music, as well as ritual. It is performed both for entertainment as well as for healing specific types of emotional and psychological ailments. Mak yong is undoubtedly the most important of all traditional Malay theatre forms in terms of its content as well as performance style. Following an effort to revive this near- extinct art from 1969 onwards, it went through considerable changes as it shifted away from its rural base to urban centres, particularly Kuala Lumpur. The changes essentially attempted to “cleanse” Mak yong of some of the objectionable folk elements with a view to transform it into a sophisticated one intended for modern audiences, including tourists. Mak yong, was designated by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Mankind in 2005. The listing was based on the Candidature File prepared by the present author, Ghulam–Sarwar Yousof, a leading specialist in traditional Southeast Asian theatre. He was the first person in the world to work on a doctorate on traditional Malay theatre with a dissertation on Mak yong submitted to the University of Hawaii in 1976. The present volume comprise a selection of his essays on various aspects of Mak yong presented at local and international seminars as well as published in several journals. The papers provide original and vital insghts into the history, aesthetics and functions of Mak yong as well as controversies surrounding it. The papers also touch upon issues connected with the survival of mak yong and the need for efforts to preserve what the author regards as the most unique of traditional Malay performing arts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although stretching back into the unwritten and often mythic past, traditional Malay performing arts have, until recent times, been almost totally neglected. In recent years, the subject has begun to attract the serious scholarly interest it deserves. Such attention is timely, for the principal theatre genres, including Mak Yong, Wayang Kulit and the comparatively modern Bangsawan, have begun to suffer decline. Indeed, many of them are on the verge of extinction and, with time, will come the loss of an important facet of the native Malay genius. This volume by an acknowledged expert on Malaysian theatre, Ghulam-Sarwar Yousof, is a pioneering work on the subject, an invaluable contribution to Malay cultural studies. It discusses theatre from the perspectives of history, performance principles, functions and problems that have contributed to the decline of traditional performing arts in Malaysia. Also included is a chapter on Semangat, the Malay concept of soul, a seminal belief whose understanding allows for a deeper appreciation of Malay theatre and its role in traditional society. A vital forerunner of several books on the traditional performing arts and cultural traditions of the Malays, this volume is a landmark in cultural research by a Malaysian scholar.
