Book excerpt: Fresher, faster, easier, yummier New takes on our favourite dinners, from one of North America's most trusted cooks and culinary trend watchers. When it comes to making dinner, we are creatures of habit. Research proves what we've known all along--Canadians love to eat the same 10 things for dinner as often as they can. We love our chicken, pasta, sandwiches, pork, casseroles, pizza, fish, burgers, steak and soup. But as any home chef who's been on the receiving end of "Not chicken breasts again " will tell you, this list can become, well, boring. Enter Dana McCauley, bestselling cookbook author, culinary journalist and food industry consultant. She's taken our top 10 favourites and come up with more than 200 recipes that make your mainstays magnificent. These are favourites made new and now, like Moroccan Lamb Burgers. Or, they're faster, tastier versions of standards like chicken pot pie, now reimagined as Springtime Chicken & Asparagus Pot Pie. And they're the classics taken to the ultimate--the very best recipe for Macaroni and Cheese. Keeping in mind that today's home cooks have little time for prep and clean-up, and prefer to use as few appliances and gadgets as possible, each recipe gives preparation and cooking times, as well as storage and freezing options so you can make your own ready-to-eat entr?es. Plus, there are cooking tips and pantry substitutions, along with variations for the slow cooker, cooking-for-two and batch cooking for many of the recipes. Packed with gorgeous full-colour photos, with clear and detailed professionally tested recipes, Dana's Top Ten Table is destined to become a sauce-spattered, well-thumbed addition to every home cook's library.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thought and Knowledge applies theory and research from the learning sciences to teach students the critical thinking skills that they need to succeed in today’s world. The text identifies, defines, discusses, and deconstructs contemporary challenges to critical thinking, from fake news, alternative facts, and deep fakes, to misinformation, disinformation, post-truth, and more. It guides students through the explosion of content on the internet and social media and enables them to become careful and critical evaluators as well as consumers. The text is grounded in psychological science, especially the cognitive sciences, and brought to life through humorous and engaging language and numerous practical and real-world examples and anecdotes. This edition has been streamlined with thoughtful consideration over what content to keep, what to cut, and how much new and current research to add. Critical thinking skills are presented in every chapter, empowering students to learn more efficiently, research more productively, and present logical, critical, and informed arguments. The skills are reviewed at the end of the chapter, and a complete list of skills with definitions and examples are included in the appendix. The text is supported by a companion website that features a robust set of instructor and student resources: www.routledge.com/cw/halpern. Thought and Knowledge can be used as a core text in critical thinking courses offered in departments of psychology, philosophy, English, or across the humanities and social sciences, or as a supplement in any course where critical thinking is emphasized.

Book Advances in Molecular and Pharmacological Mechanisms of Novel Targeted Therapies for Melanoma

Download or read book Advances in Molecular and Pharmacological Mechanisms of Novel Targeted Therapies for Melanoma written by Luana Mota Ferreira and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-04-15 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Malignant melanoma is the most aggressive type of skin cancer with invasive growth patterns. Recent advances in melanoma management have focused on cell growth, proliferation, migration, and survival biomarkers. Numerous FDA-approved molecular-targeted therapies, such as tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), have been developed targeting genetic biomarkers that play a critical role in tumorigenesis when overexpressed. The use of targeted therapies as an alternative or adjuvant to immunotherapy has revolutionized the management of metastatic melanoma. Although this treatment strategy is more efficacious and less toxic than traditional therapies, targeted therapies are less effective after prolonged treatment due to acquired resistance given the mutations and activation of resistant mechanisms in melanoma tumors. In this sense, identifying novel target therapies and repositioned drugs that could modulate the disease progression, the potential molecular and pharmacological mechanisms of therapies are of utmost interest.

Dana has Type 1 diabetes and this is complicating the already difficult situation involving her care. Dana's dad is disillusioned with God, but something in his relationship with Father Wes and in this troubled situation is drawing him to God. Book The Cnidaria Past Present and Future

Download or read book The Cnidaria Past Present and Future written by Stefano Goffredo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-07 with total page 842 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a broad panorama of the current status of research of invertebrate animals considered belonging to the phylum Cnidaria, such as hydra, jellyfish, sea anemone, and coral. In this book the Cnidarians are traced from the Earth’s primordial oceans, to their response to the warming and acidifying oceans. Due to the role of corals in the carbon and calcium cycles, various aspects of cnidarian calcification are discussed. The relation of the Cnidaria with Mankind is approached, in accordance with the Editors’ philosophy of bridging the artificial schism between science, arts and Humanities. Cnidarians' encounters with humans result in a broad spectrum of medical emergencies that are reviewed. The final section of the volume is devoted to the role of Hydra and Medusa in mythology and art.
