They were downtown, the day the Sharndo gang rode into town. Turned out the gang had robbed the gold shipment from the steamer, Dakota. They got a room at the Johnson Hotel to lie low for awhile. Having drank too much whiskey one evening, the gang freely talks of their robbery and pass around a map, where the gold is buried. Marlo, ever the adventure seeker, and Rob, whom she dragged along, find the window of the gang's room. Kids have big eyes and ears. Beneath the window, they see and hear everything. Next day when the kids know that the Sharndo gang is drinking in a local bar, Marlo sneaks through the unlocked window and retrieves the map. They study the map and find, to their delight, that the gold is hidden in the White Cliffs badlands, along the Missouri River. Keeping this a secret, they decide to recover the gold. They build a raft and head on down the Missouri, on an exciting, bold mission. With the Sharndo gang hot on their trail and a run in with a Blackfoot hunting party, will they make it to the Gold's hiding place and return safely home? Find out in Dakota Gold.

About the kids hiding in the trees, finding bank robbers, robbers of Army guns - gunrunners, and the kids with a 13-year-old blind girl, who became blind at age 9, and many folks enjoying Jail Bird food. Later finding a gang of the Army payroll {in GOLD} paddle-wheeler steamboat robbers. Lois, the mother, from her journals and journals written by the kids, who are, Bobby age 13, John age 13, Jerry age 12, and Kathy age 11, almost. From the journals of John's Uncle James West and the stern steam paddle wheeler Captain John Fourbears Tipton Duffy. The stories about this family have been passed on down for over seven generations about the family and kids' real life and adventure along the great Lewis and Clark lower Ohio River, the Mississippi River, and up the Missouri River trail. Their personal lives, the people whom they crossed paths and where their lives path crossed in life with some folks, many times. Many journal entries are now flowing into this story. I am sure you all will be able to personally relate to the story of the people and their forthcoming choices and then stop, and may explain things to children, or just sit back in deep thought (for a while), and then you may decide. So much was recorded that it took three books (about 980 pages) just to cover part of the details of the last nine months of 1849.
