Book Daily Devotions to Obtain an Overcoming Life

Download or read book Daily Devotions to Obtain an Overcoming Life written by Joyce Tracy and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-11-16 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To Obtain an Overcoming Life is a series of devotions on how to overcome the negative traits and behaviors in our life such as; fear, pride, temptation, finding fault, jealousy, making excuses, rebellion and self, or selfishness. These are very important and valuable as they teach us how to obtain the power to live a victorious life in Christ Jesus. It begins with self for unless we can overcome self we wont be able to overcome other negative traits, as all hinge on self. There are devotions on making right choices and how to set goals and priorities; about attitudes and faith, having a continuous praise in our heart to the Lord and how to obtain our final reward in heaven thus the Road to Eternal Life. As we strive for the Kingdom, we have mountains to climb and valleys to cross, were faced with hills and barriers, and each step has a new name. They are there to keep us out of Heavens territory. We must over - come and step over; failures and past failures, handicaps of every kind, peer pressure, fear, anger, and defeat. Approximately two-thirds of Jesus teachings were in parables. A parable is an earthly story with a spiritual or heavenly meaning, teaching Christian morals, principles and values. Many of these devotions will be based on some of these parables.

Book Overcome by Modernity

  • Author : Harry D. Harootunian
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2011-11-28
  • ISBN : 1400823862

Download or read book Overcome by Modernity written by Harry D. Harootunian and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2011-11-28 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the decades between the two World Wars, Japan made a dramatic entry into the modern age, expanding its capital industries and urbanizing so quickly as to rival many long-standing Western industrial societies. How the Japanese made sense of the sudden transformation and the subsequent rise of mass culture is the focus of Harry Harootunian's fascinating inquiry into the problems of modernity. Here he examines the work of a generation of Japanese intellectuals who, like their European counterparts, saw modernity as a spectacle of ceaseless change that uprooted the dominant historical culture from its fixed values and substituted a culture based on fantasy and desire. Harootunian not only explains why the Japanese valued philosophical understandings of these events, often over sociological or empirical explanations, but also locates Japan's experience of modernity within a larger global process marked by both modernism and fascism. What caught the attention of Japanese thinkers was how the production of desire actually threatened historical culture. These intellectuals sought to "overcome" the materialism and consumerism associated with the West, particularly the United States. They proposed versions of a modernity rooted in cultural authenticity and aimed at infusing meaning into everyday life, whether through art, memory, or community. Harootunian traces these ideas in the works of Yanagita Kunio, Tosaka Jun, Gonda Yasunosuke, and Kon Wajiro, among others, and relates their arguments to those of such European writers as George Simmel, Siegfried Kracauer, Walter Benjamin, and Georges Bataille. Harootunian shows that Japanese and European intellectuals shared many of the same concerns, and also stresses that neither Japan's involvement with fascism nor its late entry into the capitalist, industrial scene should cause historians to view its experience of modernity as an oddity. The author argues that strains of fascism ran throughout most every country in Europe and in many ways resulted from modernizing trends in general. This book, written by a leading scholar of modern Japan, amounts to a major reinterpretation of the nature of Japan's modernity.

Book The Transformative Power of Daily Actions How Your Choices Shape Your Character

Download or read book The Transformative Power of Daily Actions How Your Choices Shape Your Character written by Silviu Ciuta and published by Silviu Ciuta. This book was released on with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The quote "day by day what you do is who you become" is a powerful reminder of he profound impact our daily actions have on shaping our character and defining our identity. It underscores the idea that our choices, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, accumulate over time to mold us into the individuals we ultimately become. In this essay, we will explore the concept in depth, delving into the psychology, philosophy, and practical implications of this fundamental truth. At its core, the quote suggests that our character is not shaped by occasional grand gestures or momentous events, but by the consistent and often subtle actions we engage in on a daily basis. Whether it's the habit of waking up early, eating healthily, or practicing kindness, these behaviors gradually become ingrained in our identity. Consistency is the key to transformation. Consider an individual who aspires to become physically fit. It's not the occasional visit to the gym that makes the difference but the daily commitment to exercise. The same principle applies to intellectual pursuits. Becoming knowledgeable in a particular field doesn't happen overnight; it's the consistent daily effort to read, learn, and practice that leads to expertise. The quote also alludes to the "butterfly effect," a concept from chaos theory that suggests small actions can have far-reaching consequences. For example, a decision to save a small amount of money each day can lead to financial security in the long run. Likewise, a daily practice of gratitude and positivity can transform one's outlook on life. Our character is not static; it is continually evolving based on our actions and experiences. In other words, our character is a reflection of our habits and behaviors. If we consistently act with integrity, we become individuals known for our honesty. If we practice kindness and empathy daily, we develop a compassionate nature. Our character, then, is the sum total of our daily choices and actions. It's not merely the actions themselves but also the intentions behind them that shape our character. A person who performs kind deeds solely for personal gain is different from someone who acts out of genuine empathy and goodwill. Therefore, the quote encourages us to align our actions with our values and intentions, as this alignment leads to authentic personal growth. When we choose to act in ways that align with our values and aspirations, we experience a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. This, in turn, motivates us to continue making these choices. For example, a person who starts a daily exercise routine may initially struggle with motivation, but as they see improvements in their health and well-being, they are more likely to persist in their efforts. This positive reinforcement strengthens the connection between action and identity. Our environment plays a crucial role in shaping our daily actions and, by extension, our character. The people we surround ourselves with, the places we frequent, and the resources available to us all influence our choices. Therefore, it's essential to be mindful of our environment and choose settings that support our desired actions and character development. Day by day what you do is who you become encapsulates a profound truth about human nature and personal growth. Our character is not a fixed entity but a continually evolving product of our daily actions, choices, and intentions. Through consistency, intentionality, and reflection, we have the power to shape our character in alignment with our values and aspirations. The journey of self-discovery and personal growth is a lifelong process, and it begins with the awareness that each day presents an opportunity to become the person we aspire to be. Ultimately, our destiny is not predetermined; it is a result of the choices we make, day by day, throughout our lives.
