Book Daddy s Book

Download or read book Daddy s Book written by Joseph Coppini and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-06-24 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is how the story begins, it was a Wednesday night and I went to a dance every Wednesday night at the P.S. Pavilion; a nice big dance hall like the big ones we had in Chicago, with the big bands. I felt like I was about 18 years old and I danced every dance. I had a few drinks and I left the dance about 11 :00 P.M. I got to bed about 11:45 p.m. I woke up about 5 a.m the next morning. I couldn't breathe, I was having a tough time breathing; so I called 911. I knew I was in some kind of trouble so I took my pajamas off, put on shorts and with that I put my medicare card and blue cross/blue shield card, and my driver's license in my pocket I waited out side. It seemed like an hour but it was probably only a few minutes, before the fire dept arrived with their wagon. I was standing in the driveway, waiting for them to arrive. I said, "I'm having a hard time breathing would you please give me some oxygen." They kept asking, what's your name, . . .where do you live? I kept asking them to please give me some oxygen. I was having a tough time breathing.

Book Motherwit

Download or read book Motherwit written by Onnie Lee Logan and published by Untreed Reads. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Motherwit" and "common sense" were the watchwords of Onnie Lee Logan's career as a lay midwife in Mobile County, Alabama. Although she received little formal education, endured the Depression and faced a racist society, Onnie Lee Logan experienced her life as the triumphant fulfillment of a dream to be one of those who could bring babies into the world, as her mother and grandmother had done before her. Her story, told in the soft, now vanishing dialect of the Deep South, is powerful and fascinating oral history. Motherwit follows her life through her work as a servant for a wealthy Mobile family, her troubled marriage during the Depression, and her struggle to become a licensed midwife. We watch as she delivers the babies of both black and white women of Alabama--losing only one baby in 40 years. Onnie Lee Logan's forbearance in the face of the crushing prejudice of the rural South makes inspiring and unforgettable reading. When she passed away in 1995, the New York Times declared her a “folk hero,” and Time called her book “a feminist classic.” Filled with startling drama and profound wisdom, Motherwit is an important contribution to African-American history. "An amazing story. A heroic woman and life after my own heart." Alice Walker "To have told her own story, to have borne this eloquent witness to her life is Onnie Lee Logan's final triumph." Ellen Douglas in the Washington Post Book World "Oral history doesn't come much better than this." Booklist "Beautiful...her passion rings through in every line." Los Angeles Times

Book The Daddy Diaries

Download or read book The Daddy Diaries written by Andy Cohen and published by Henry Holt and Company. This book was released on 2023-05-09 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Instant New York Times Bestseller! New York Times bestselling author Andy Cohen goes from bottle service to baby bottles in a hilarious, heartwarming, and name-dropping account of the most important year of his life. Andy Cohen has taken on the most important job of his life—father— and boy (and girl!) does he have a lot to say about it! One of Andy Cohen’s most momentous years starts off with a hangover the morning after an epic New Year’s Eve broadcast. But Andy doesn’t have time to dwell on the drama, as his role as media mogul is now matched with the responsibilities, joys, and growing pains of parenthood. This fast-paced, mile-a-minute look behind the scenes of living the so-called glamorous life in Manhattan now takes firm aim at life at home. With a three-year-old son, Ben, and a daughter, Lucy, born in May, stories of late-night parties are replaced by early mornings with Ben, drama at the play-ground, and the musings of a single dad trying to navigate having it all. All this is set against the backdrop of constant Housewives drama, hijinks behind the scenes at Watch What Happens Live, a revolving door of famous faces, and a worried mother (and newly minted grandmother) in St. Louis. Buckle up, bottle up, and get ready for a laugh-out-loud and surprisingly poignant look at the ways in which family changes everything and the superficial gets very real. Watch what happens!

Frightened and alone, Jean meets a girlhood friend, a wealthy Anglo-Mexican socialite who invites Jean to stay aboard her yacht. Together they set out to investigate the murders, and they soon uncover a web of treachery that leads to government corruption, tangled conspiracies, cocaine smuggling, and a billion-dollar land fraud scheme. Targeted for assassination, they find themselves being hunted by both the villains and the police as they careen through Florida in a desperate gamble to find the only evidence that will ensure their survival. They make their way to a battered women's shelter, Jean kills a corrupt police officer, their world turns upside down, and they roar off on a motorcycle stolen from a gang member as they ricochet toward their first adventure's startling conclusion.

Book Cherry

Book excerpt: From Mary Karr comes this gorgeously written, often hilarious story of her tumultuous teens and sexual coming-of-age. Picking up where the bestselling The Liars' Club left off, Karr dashes down the trail of her teen years with customary sass, only to run up against the paralyzing self-doubt of a girl in bloom. Fleeing the thrills and terrors of adolescence, she clashes against authority in all its forms and hooks up with an unforgettable band of heads and bona-fide geniuses. Parts of Cherry will leave you gasping with laughter. Karr assembles a self from the smokiest beginnings, delivering a long-awaited sequel that is both "bawdy and wise" (San Francisco Chronicle).
