Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new volume provides an indispensable guide to the proliferating bibliography (often hard of access) of several thousand Ancient Arabian inscriptions through one-and-a-half millennia (c. 1000 BC to c. 570 AD), mainly in South Arabia, but including also some monumental texts from NW Arabia and others from E Arabia. The Bibliography offers important information on each principal text (all sigla by which each is named, with ample cross-references; location, date, nature, besides the vital list of publications in which each appears). A comprehensive but compact set of charts provides a basic palaeography, to help in the dating of texts that lack a royal name. Updates are given for the chronology, king-lists, and lists of sources in Volume 1, and (to complement the minimal dates in that work) fresh maximal dates for those wishing to base their dates on the supposed Assyrian synchronism with Karibil Watar I of Saba in 685 BC.

Book Dictionary of Bibliographic Abbreviations Found in the Scholarship of Classical Studies and Related Disciplines

Wellington and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2003-08-30 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trying to identify abbreviated titles of journals and standard bibliographic works is a major difficulty facing researchers and librarians in the field of Classical Studies. This revised edition has been greatly expanded, with nearly twice the abbreviations (17,000) and bibliographic entries (12,400) as the first edition. Also, the Greek and Cyrillic abbreviations have increased by seven and four fold respectively. Abbreviations for internet sites are now included, as are those for associations in the broad area of Classical Studies. There are also more entries for Eastern European and regional archaeological publications. This revised volume is divided into two parts. Part One consists of an alphabetical listing of bibliographic abbreviations found in the scholarship of classical studies and related disciplines. Meanwhile, Part Two is an alphabetically arranged bibliographic descriptions for the works published in classical studies and related disciplines. Special efforts were made to increase the coverage in peripheral areas, making this new edition a useful reference tool for scholars in all subjects of study in the ancient and medieval world.

Book On the Reliability of the Old Testament

Download or read book On the Reliability of the Old Testament written by K. A. Kitchen and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2006-06-09 with total page 685 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than two hundred years controversy has raged over the reliability of the Old Testament. Questions about the factuality of its colorful stories of heroes, villains, and kings, for example, have led many critics to see the entire Hebrew Bible as little more than pious fiction. In this fascinating book, noted ancient historian K. A. Kitchen takes strong issue with today's "revisionist" critics and offers a firm foundation for the historicity of the biblical texts. In a detailed, comprehensive, and entertaining manner, Kitchen draws on an unprecedented range of historical data from the ancient Near East -- the Bible's own world -- and uses it to soundly reassess both the biblical record and the critics who condemn it. Working back from the latest periods (for which hard evidence is readily available) to the remotest times, Kitchen systematically shows up the many failures of favored arguments against the Bible and marshals pertinent permanent evidence from antiquity's inscriptions and artifacts to demonstrate the basic honesty of the Old Testament writers. Enhanced with numerous tables, figures, and maps, On the Reliability of the Old Testament is a must-read for anyone interested in the question of biblical truth.
