Book Deep Green Resistance

Download or read book Deep Green Resistance written by Derrick Jensen and published by Seven Stories Press. This book was released on 2011-01-04 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For years, Derrick Jensen has asked his audiences, "Do you think this culture will undergo a voluntary transformation to a sane and sustainable way of life?" No one ever says yes. Deep Green Resistance starts where the environmental movement leaves off: industrial civilization is incompatible with life. Technology can't fix it, and shopping—no matter how green—won’t stop it. To save this planet, we need a serious resistance movement that can bring down the industrial economy. Deep Green Resistance evaluates strategic options for resistance, from nonviolence to guerrilla warfare, and the conditions required for those options to be successful. It provides an exploration of organizational structures, recruitment, security, and target selection for both aboveground and underground action. Deep Green Resistance also discusses a culture of resistance and the crucial support role that it can play. Deep Green Resistance is a plan of action for anyone determined to fight for this planet—and win.

Book Latium Region A new tourism for the Litorale Nord area

Download or read book Latium Region A new tourism for the Litorale Nord area written by Massimo Castellano and published by Sapienza Università Editrice. This book was released on 2020-06-24 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication, the end result of cooperation between the Innovative Startup “SARA ENViMOB S.r.l., Servizi e Soluzioni per la Natura e il Turismo” (Sapienza University of Rome), the Network of Enterprises “I Borghi Marinari di Roma – RIBOMAR” and FEDERBALNEARI Lazio Litorale Nord, seeks to promote a bottom-up approach to the transformation of the tourist offer in the area known as Litorale Nord, in the Latium Region, taking it out of its current state of “undertourism”. Litorale Nord possesses a wealth of resources, natural and cultural assets dotted along the coast, in the sea and further inland that have not been fully exploited for tourism purposes. The area lies between three tourism “poles”: the Port of Civitavecchia, Fiumicino Airport and the Rome city centre, which is today suffering from the phenomenon known as “overtourism”.

Book Development Economics and Social Justice

Download or read book Development Economics and Social Justice written by John Thoburn and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professor Ian Livingstone is one of a small group of British development economists who have achieved international renown and recognition. The objective of this book is to pay tribute to his life's work, particularly those aspects which related to key but challenging development issues. These issues include, at a broad level, the understanding of the economic forces determining the development of low income economies, more detailed micro work on agricultural development (irrigation in particular), decentralisation and local government finance, small scale enterprises, and large scale manufacturing development. Themes running through his work relate to his over-riding concern for rigour and for socio-economic justice. Ian Livingstone consistently used the traditional tools of economic analysis as a means to increase understanding of development issues - in a way which was, itself, just as radical as the contributions of political scientists and sociologists. This volume has been produced with similar aims.

Book excerpt: Once Europe's supreme maritime power, Spain by the mid-eighteenth century was facing fierce competition from England and France. England, in particular, had successfully mustered the financial resources necessary to confront its Atlantic rivals by mobilizing both aristocracy and merchant bourgeoisie in support of its imperial ambitions. Spain, meanwhile, remained overly dependent on the profits of its New World silver mines to finance both metropolitan and colonial imperatives, and England's naval superiority constantly threatened the vital flow of specie. When Charles III ascended the Spanish throne in 1759, then, after a quarter-century as ruler of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, Spain and its colonial empire were seriously imperiled. Two hundred years of Hapsburg rule, followed by a half-century of ineffectual Bourbon "reforms," had done little to modernize Spain's increasingly antiquated political, social, economic, and intellectual institutions. Charles III, recognizing the pressing need to renovate these institutions, set his Italian staff—notably the Marqués de Esquilache, who became Secretary of the Consejo de Hacienda (the Exchequer)—to this formidable task. In Apogee of Empire, Stanley J. Stein and Barbara H. Stein trace the attempt, initially under Esquilache's direction, to reform the Spanish establishment and, later, to modify and modernize the relationship between the metropole and its colonies. Within Spain, Charles and his architects of reform had to be mindful of determining what adjustments could be made that would help Spain confront its enemies without also radically altering the Hapsburg inheritance. As described in impressive detail by the authors, the bitter, seven-year conflict that ensued between reformers and traditionalists ended in a coup in 1766 that forced Charles to send Esquilache back to Italy. After this setback at home, Charles still hoped to effect constructive change in Spain's imperial system, primarily through the incremental implementation of a policy of comercio libre (free-trade). These reforms, made half-heartedly at best, failed as well, and by 1789 Spain would find itself ill prepared for the coming decades of upheaval in Europe and America. An in-depth study of incremental response by an old imperial order to challenges at home and abroad, Apogee of Empire is also a sweeping account of the personalities, places, and policies that helped to shape the modern Atlantic world.

Book Christina Rossetti

Download or read book Christina Rossetti written by Jan Marsh and published by Faber & Faber. This book was released on 2012-11-29 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Jan Marsh's book is the best researched and fullest biography of Rossetti we have yet had.' Fiona MacCarthy, New York Review of Books'Although never formally part of the Pre-Raphaelite poetic school, which included her brother Gabriel, William Morris, and Algernon Swinburne, Christina Rossetti has always been linked to it. [Jan Marsh] gives full attention to both the individual and her unique variety of fantastic and devotional poetry... Marsh delineates an appealing person while examining her adolescent nervous breakdown, abortive engagement to a lapsed Catholic painter, frustrated love for an absentminded scholar, and relationships with her devout but hearty sister, Maria, and with her brothers... The author's steady, sympathetic course through Rossetti's divided life enables readers to delve into the intense and original self most fully expressed in her poetry.' Kirkus Review

Book Noncommutative Polynomial Algebras of Solvable Type and Their Modules

Download or read book Noncommutative Polynomial Algebras of Solvable Type and Their Modules written by Huishi Li and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-11-08 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Noncommutative Polynomial Algebras of Solvable Type and Their Modules is the first book to systematically introduce the basic constructive-computational theory and methods developed for investigating solvable polynomial algebras and their modules. In doing so, this book covers: A constructive introduction to solvable polynomial algebras and Gröbner basis theory for left ideals of solvable polynomial algebras and submodules of free modules The new filtered-graded techniques combined with the determination of the existence of graded monomial orderings The elimination theory and methods (for left ideals and submodules of free modules) combining the Gröbner basis techniques with the use of Gelfand-Kirillov dimension, and the construction of different kinds of elimination orderings The computational construction of finite free resolutions (including computation of syzygies, construction of different kinds of finite minimal free resolutions based on computation of different kinds of minimal generating sets), etc. This book is perfectly suited to researchers and postgraduates researching noncommutative computational algebra and would also be an ideal resource for teaching an advanced lecture course.
