Book Statistical Implications of Inflation Targeting

Download or read book Statistical Implications of Inflation Targeting written by Mrs.Carol S. Carson and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2002-09-25 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together the experience of central banks and national statistical agencies in countries that focus their monetary policy on inflation targets. Inflation targeting has led to a close interface between these two sets of institutions. When the performance of a central bank is measured in terms of specified price indices, which are usually compiled and disseminated by the national statistical agency, the role of national statistical agencies becomes central to the credibility of monetary policy. Data needs and uses have also shifted, with implications for national and international statistics compilation: market data have gained in importance; less emphasis is placed on traditional monetary aggregates; and greater attention is paid to timeliness, adherence to sound economic accounting standards, and other aspects of data quality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2006 Article IV Consultation highlights that despite some progress in macroeconomic stabilization and reform under IMF-supported programs during the 1990s, Chad’s indicators on business climate, governance, and socioeconomic conditions still remain among the lowest in the world. In 2006, real GDP is expected to grow by 1.3 percent, reflecting higher non-oil growth offsetting a somewhat larger fall in oil production than envisaged earlier. Executive Directors have noted Chad’s efforts in maintaining macroeconomic stability and in channeling resources to priority sectors despite a difficult political and security environment.

Book Republic of Poland

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The external sector has an increasing drag on the economy. The current account deficit remains fully financed by FDI, and the underlying balance is consistent with external-debt stabilizing levels. The stock market retrenchment has been severe, but it followed substantial gains since 2006. Stress tests show that resilience of the banking system is well capitalized and highly profitable. Executive Directors stressed that the key to boosting long-term growth will be to increase low labor market participation. The financial supervision authority should give priority to formalizing understandings.
