Book EU Environmental Directives in the Czech Republic

Download or read book EU Environmental Directives in the Czech Republic written by Alexandr Jevsejenko and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the Czech Republic joined the European Union, most of its environmental legislation is adopted through the EU policy process. However, environmental protection in the Czech Republic is undermined by the relatively high implementation deficit of EU environmental legislation. This publication aims to identify the reasons for this deficit, i.e. barriers to effective implementation of environmental directives adopted by the EU after 1 May 2004. Through qualitative interviews with officials from Prague and Brussels, including two former Czech Ministers of Environment, the author identifies two narratives of non-compliance specific for the Czech Republic and two narratives embedded in the EU system of administration. The publication concludes with recommendations on how to dismantle these barriers. The findings are relevant not only for decision-makers in Brussels and in Prague, but also for civil servants and politicians in other EU countries, especially from the 'new member states' from Central and Eastern Europe. It might prove useful also to scholars dealing with implementation deficit in other countries and other policy areas.

Book Manual on Human Rights and the Environment

Download or read book Manual on Human Rights and the Environment written by Conseil de l'Europe, and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2012-06-01 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human rights and the environment have become increasingly interconnected. This updated manual seeks to contribute to a better understanding of this relationship by taking into account the new pertinent case law of the European Court of Human Rights. While the European Convention on Human Rights does not guarantee a specific right to a healthy and sound environment, the general standards deriving from it may nonetheless also apply to environmental matters. The European Court of Human Rights regularly examines complaints in which individuals argue that a breach of their Convention rights is the result of adverse environmental factors. This manual also takes account of the relevant decisions of the European Committee of Social Rights which has interpreted the right to protection of health under the European Social Charter as including a right to a healthy environment.Examples of good national practices have been compiled on the basis of the contributions of several member states and included in an appendix to the manual. The aim is to present the emerging principles on environmental protection in a systematic and accessible way.

Book Environmental Sustainability

Download or read book Environmental Sustainability written by Gamze Tanil and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2021-02-03 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reflecting the concerns over environmental sustainability, there has been an increasing focus on the protection of our water resources and on the proper management of our waste. Our economic growth can only be sustainable when it does not represent a threat to human health and to fauna, flora, and eco-system in the long-term. A long-term resilience, new business and economic opportunities, and environmental sustainability can be achieved through circular economy model that offers us a world of opportunity to rethink and redesign our economic activities and consumption patterns. With an aim to give the reader a new perspective on this issue, this book covers European Union’s water and waste management legislation and the Czech Republic’s transposition of this legislation, and includes a comparative analysis of the performances of the EU Member States on the implementation of new water and waste management policy strategies.

Book Implementing EU Environmental Policy

Download or read book Implementing EU Environmental Policy written by Christoph Knill and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines issues of censorship, publicity and teenage fandom in 1950s Britain surrounding a series of controversial Hollywood films: The Wild One, Blackboard Jungle, Rebel Without a Cause, Rock Around the Clock and Jailhouse Rock. It also explores British cinema's commentary on juvenile delinquency through a re-examination of such British films as The Blue Lamp, Spare the Rod and Serious Charge. Taking a multi-dimensional approach, the book intersects with star studies and social history while reappraising the stardom of Marlon Brando, James Dean and Elvis Presley. By looking at the specific meanings, pleasures and uses British fans derived from these films, it provides a logical and sustained narrative for how Hollywood star images fed into and disrupted British cultural life during a period of unprecedented teenage consumerism.
