Book Cyclic Triaxial Behavior of Monterey Number 0 and Number 0 30 Sands

Download or read book Cyclic Triaxial Behavior of Monterey Number 0 and Number 0 30 Sands written by WA. Charlie and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of a testing program to compare the cyclic triaxial behavior of Monterey No. 0 and No. 0/30 sands are presented. Monterey No. 0 sand, the standard sand used by Silver et al in 1976 to establish the performance specification for cyclic triaxial systems, is no longer available and a replacement is needed. The supplier of the test sand, Lone Star Industries, stopped producing No. 0 sand in 1977, and the 4500-kg (10 000-lb) supply stockpiled by the University of California at Berkeley is exhausted. Since 1977, Lone Star Industries has filled requests for Monterey No. 0 by shipping Monterey No. 0/30 sand. The results of a duplicate testing program conducted at two independent laboratories lead to questions regarding the validity of substituting No. 0/30 sand for No. 0 sand. When tested under identical conditions, the Monterey No. 0/30 sand yielded higher cyclic strengths than did Monterey No. 0 sand.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 28 (thesis year 1 983) a total of 10,661 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 197 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 28 reports theses submitted in-1983, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Cyclic behaviour and liquefaction potential of silty sand Experimental and numerical investigations

Download or read book Cyclic behaviour and liquefaction potential of silty sand Experimental and numerical investigations written by Abdulaziz Osman Abdelkadr and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2023-01-01 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study experimental and numerical investigations have been carried out with the emphasis on studying the behaviour and liquefaction state of typical silty sand sampled from the Mekelle area in Ethiopia under monotonic and cyclic undrained loadings. Experiments have been carried out to measure the pore pressure accumulation, deformation characteristics and related effective stress paths. A numerical model was then used to simulate the behaviour and liquefaction state associated with the changes in the stress-strain-pore pressure levels by means of the finite element method (FEM) using the FE code Tochnog (Tochnog Professional Company 2021).

Book The Effects of Cyclic Triaxial Testing Techniques on the Liquefaction Behavior of Monterey No 0 Sand

Download or read book The Effects of Cyclic Triaxial Testing Techniques on the Liquefaction Behavior of Monterey No 0 Sand written by John P. Mulilis and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of this investigation were to (a) participate in a cooperative cyclic triaxial testing program with seven other laboratories and (b) determine the effect of various testing techniques and equipment, i.e., specimen preparation and compaction, B value, density, loading wave form, and compaction equipment on the cyclic triaxial strength of a sand. A total of 28 saturated isotropically consolidated-undrained cyclic triaxial tests were conducted on 2.8-in.-diam by 7-in.-high specimens of Monterey No. O sand. Specimens were compacted to 60 percent relative density (98.5 pcf) using three different compaction techniques (i.e. dry rodding, moist rodding, and moist tamping) with some instances of undercompacting the lower layers. Some specimens were compacted to a relative density of about 66 percent while others were tested when the B value reached approximately 0.91. The effect of loading wave shape was evaluated by subjecting specimens to either a rectangular, near triangular, or sinusoidal loading wave form.
