Book Proof testing of Latticed Members and Their Connections on SFOBB

Download or read book Proof testing of Latticed Members and Their Connections on SFOBB written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary objective of this project was to provide the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) with the information necessary for finalizing seismic retrofit design of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge (SFOBB). Focus was on conducting cyclic tests of half-scale specimens representing latticed members and their connections of the SFOBB. The results of the tests and related analyses were used for refining and modifying the retrofit design of the bridge as well as providing physical results on the actual behavior of existing and retrofitted members. Results showed that the dominant failure mode of the latticed members was the local buckling of the angle legs between the latticed points. In addition, it was found that the failure of connection rivets was the main failure mode of the existing latticed members in specimens with gusset plate connections.

Download or read book Designing for Earthquakes written by Federal Emergency Management Agency and published by www.Militarybookshop.CompanyUK. This book was released on 2006-12 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This full color manual is intended to explain the principles of seismic design for those without a technical background in engineering and seismology. The primary intended audience is that of architects, and includes practicing architects, architectural students and faculty in architectural schools who teach structures and seismic design. For this reason the text and graphics are focused on those aspects of seismic design that are important for the architect to know.

Book Failed Bridges

Download or read book Failed Bridges written by Joachim Scheer and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-08-24 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Structural Motion Engineering

Download or read book Structural Motion Engineering written by Jerome Connor and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-06-26 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This innovative volume provides a systematic treatment of the basic concepts and computational procedures for structural motion design and engineering for civil installations. The authors illustrate the application of motion control to a wide spectrum of buildings through many examples. Topics covered include optimal stiffness distributions for building-type structures, the role of damping in controlling motion, tuned mass dampers, base isolation systems, linear control, and nonlinear control. The book's primary objective the satisfaction of motion-related design requirements such as restrictions on displacement and acceleration and seeks the optimal deployment of material stiffness and motion control devices to achieve these design targets as well as satisfy constraints on strength. The book is ideal for practicing engineers and graduate students.
