Download or read book Proof testing of Latticed Members and Their Connections on SFOBB written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary objective of this project was to provide the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) with the information necessary for finalizing seismic retrofit design of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge (SFOBB). Focus was on conducting cyclic tests of half-scale specimens representing latticed members and their connections of the SFOBB. The results of the tests and related analyses were used for refining and modifying the retrofit design of the bridge as well as providing physical results on the actual behavior of existing and retrofitted members. Results showed that the dominant failure mode of the latticed members was the local buckling of the angle legs between the latticed points. In addition, it was found that the failure of connection rivets was the main failure mode of the existing latticed members in specimens with gusset plate connections.

Download or read book AASHTO Guide Specifications for LRFD Seismic Bridge Design written by and published by AASHTO. This book was released on 2011 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work offers guidance on bridge design for extreme events induced by human beings. This document provides the designer with information on the response of concrete bridge columns subjected to blast loads as well as blast-resistant design and detailing guidelines and analytical models of blast load distribution. The content of this guideline should be considered in situations where resisting blast loads is deemed warranted by the owner or designer.

Download or read book Performance based Seismic Bridge Design written by M. Lee Marsh and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2013 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 440, Performance-Based Seismic Bridge Design (PBSD) summarizes the current state of knowledge and practice for PBSD. PBSD is the process that links decision making for facility design with seismic input, facility response, and potential facility damage. The goal of PBSD is to provide decision makers and stakeholders with data that will enable them to allocate resources for construction based on levels of desired seismic performance"--Publisher's description.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bringing together the world's leading researchers and practitioners of computational mechanics, these new volumes meet and build on the eight key challenges for research and development in computational mechanics.Researchers have recently identified eight critical research tasks facing the field of computational mechanics. These tasks have come about because it appears possible to reach a new level of mathematical modelling and numerical solution that will lead to a much deeper understanding of nature and to great improvements in engineering design. The eight tasks are: - The automatic solution of mathematical models - Effective numerical schemes for fluid flows - The development of an effective mesh-free numerical solution method - The development of numerical procedures for multiphysics problems - The development of numerical procedures for multiscale problems - The modelling of uncertainties - The analysis of complete life cycles of systems - Education - teaching sound engineering and scientific judgement Readers of Computational Fluid and Solid Mechanics 2003 will be able to apply the combined experience of many of the world's leading researchers to their own research needs. Those in academic environments will gain a better insight into the needs and constraints of the industries they are involved with; those in industry will gain a competitive advantage by gaining insight into the cutting edge research being carried out by colleagues in academia. Features - Bridges the gap between academic researchers and practitioners in industry - Outlines the eight main challenges facing Research and Design in Computational mechanics and offers new insights into the shifting the research agenda - Provides a vision of how strong, basic and exciting education at university can be harmonized with life-long learning to obtain maximum value from the new powerful tools of analysis
