Book Preconcentration Techniques For Trace Elements

Download or read book Preconcentration Techniques For Trace Elements written by Zeev Alfassi and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-12-07 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accurate determination of trace elements is critical in various fields of science and technology. Direct measurement of trace elements in samples with complex matrices is often impractical, either due to analytical sensitivity limitations or matrix interferences. Preconcentration procedures are generally needed to eliminate matrix interferences and/or enrich minute amounts of analytes to a level for reliable measurements. Preconcentration Techniques for Trace Elements provides up-to-date information on various preconcentration techniques and detailed discussions regarding such topics as the dissolution of matrices, coprecipitation, solvent extraction, electrochemical means, ion exchange, sorption, chromatographic methods, flotation, membranes, volatization, polymer foam sorbents, fire assay, isotachophoresis, and filter papers. This comprehensive volume, featuring contributions from 21 experts from nine countries, will provide valuable reference material for all scientists and technicians dealing with trace analysis of real-world samples.

Book Microelectrodes Theory and Applications

Download or read book Microelectrodes Theory and Applications written by I. Montenegro and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of microelectrodes is widely recognised and interest in their application in diverse areas of research has been increasing over the past ten years. In fact, several meetings organized by the International Society of Electrochemistry, The American Chemical Society and The U. S. Electrochemical Society have analysed various aspects of their theory and applications. For this reason it seemed that the time had arrived when scientists from around the world, actively concerned with research in the area of microelectrodes, should meet, exchange ideas and assess the direction of future developments. Furthermore, it seemed appropriate that this meeting should be held as a NATO Advanced Study Institute, so that students and young scientists with research interests in microelectrodes would have the opportunity to interact with experts in the field, establish future collaboration and, hopefully, catalyse new developments in the area. The meeting was held in Alvor, Portugal, in May 1990. This book compiles the lectures delivered in the Institute. It reviews the most important aspects of microelectrodes and points out directions for future research in this field. Several contributions discuss recent developments in theoretical aspects such as the properties of various geometries and computational procedures for solving the equations describing the coupling of mass transport to microelectrodes with heterogeneous electron tranfer and homogeneous chemistry. The materials and methods available for microelectrodes manufacture are presented in some detail. Both steady state and transient techniques are covered and the interaction of theory with experiment is discussed.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 26 (thesis year 1981) a total of 11 ,048 theses titles from 24 Canadian and 21 8 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 26 reports theses submitted in 1981, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Handbook of Mineral Elements in Food

Download or read book Handbook of Mineral Elements in Food written by de la Guardia and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-04-20 with total page 792 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mineral elements are found in foods and drink of all differenttypes, from drinking water through to mothers’ milk. Thesearch for mineral elements has shown that many trace andultratrace-level elements presented in food are required for ahealthy life. By identifying and analysing these elements, it ispossible to evaluate them for their specific health-givingproperties, and conversely, to isolate their less desirableproperties with a view to reducing or removing them altogether fromsome foods. The analysis of mineral elements requires a number ofdifferent techniques – some methods may be suitable for onefood type yet completely unsuited to another. The Handbook of Mineral Elements in Food is the firstbook to bring together the analytical techniques, the regulatoryand legislative framework, and the widest possible range of foodtypes into one comprehensive handbook for food scientists andtechnologists. Much of the book is based on the authors’ owndata, most of which is previously unpublished, making theHandbook of Mineral Elements in Food a vital andup-to-the-minute reference for food scientists in industry andacademia alike. Analytical chemists, nutritionists and food policymakers will also find it an invaluable resource. Showcasing contributions from international researchers, andconstituting a major resource for our future understanding of thetopic, the Handbook of Mineral Elements in Food is anessential reference and should be found wherever food science andtechnology are researched and taught.
