Book Cybernetics and Systems 86

Download or read book Cybernetics and Systems 86 written by R. Trappl and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 912 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains all papers presented at the Eighth European Meeting on Cybernetics and Systems Research. 169 draft papers were submitted for evaluation. In the process of careful refereeing, 33 papers were rejected and the remaining authors were invited to submit final papers. Out of these, 119 were accepted for presentation at the conference and publication in this volume. These papers were prepared by 173 scientists, authors and co-authors, from 22 European and non-European countries, with different cultural, social, and economic structures. Everybody tried hard to make this conference and its proceedings a true representation of state-of-the-art research worldwide: The members of the Programme Committee and the Chairmen of the Symposia were selected among the ~internationally leading scientists. Great care was taken not to make this conference a "European" or even "Austrian" one. We are happy and proud to hear that these "European Meetings" (the name is a purely traditional one) are recognized as the internationally leading conferences in cybernetics and systems research. Important scientists from allover the world carefully prepare their papers, containing their most recent research findings, and then enjoy the discussions with their co 11 eagues.

Book Stochastic Versus Fuzzy Approaches to Multiobjective Mathematical Programming under Uncertainty

Download or read book Stochastic Versus Fuzzy Approaches to Multiobjective Mathematical Programming under Uncertainty written by Shi-Yu Huang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Operations Research is a field whose major contribution has been to propose a rigorous fonnulation of often ill-defmed problems pertaining to the organization or the design of large scale systems, such as resource allocation problems, scheduling and the like. While this effort did help a lot in understanding the nature of these problems, the mathematical models have proved only partially satisfactory due to the difficulty in gathering precise data, and in formulating objective functions that reflect the multi-faceted notion of optimal solution according to human experts. In this respect linear programming is a typical example of impressive achievement of Operations Research, that in its detenninistic fonn is not always adapted to real world decision-making : everything must be expressed in tenns of linear constraints ; yet the coefficients that appear in these constraints may not be so well-defined, either because their value depends upon other parameters (not accounted for in the model) or because they cannot be precisely assessed, and only qualitative estimates of these coefficients are available. Similarly the best solution to a linear programming problem may be more a matter of compromise between various criteria rather than just minimizing or maximizing a linear objective function. Lastly the constraints, expressed by equalities or inequalities between linear expressions, are often softer in reality that what their mathematical expression might let us believe, and infeasibility as detected by the linear programming techniques can often been coped with by making trade-offs with the real world.

Book Control and Dynamic Systems V39 Advances in Robotic Systems Part 1 of 2

Download or read book Control and Dynamic Systems V39 Advances in Robotic Systems Part 1 of 2 written by C.T. Leonides and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Robotic Systems, Part 1 shows how the activity in robotic systems has increased significantly over the past decade. Major centers of research and development in robotic systems were established on the international scene, and these became focal points for the brilliant research efforts of many academicians and industrial professionals. The systems aspects of robotics, in general, and of robot control, in particular, are manifested through a number of technical facts. This book comprises 10 chapters, with the first focusing on applications of neural networks to robotics. The following chapters then discuss a unified approach to kinematic modeling, identification and compensation for robot calibration; nonlinear control algorithms in robotic systems; and kinematic and dynamic task space motion planning for robot control. Other chapters cover discrete kinematic modeling techniques in Cartesian space for robotic system; force distribution algorithms for multifingered grippers; frequency analysis for a discrete-time robot system; minimum cost trajectory planning for industrial robots; tactile sensing techniques in robotic systems; and sensor data fusion in robotic systems. This book will be of interest to practitioners in the fields of computer science, systems science, and mathematics.

Book Current Topics in Cybernetics and Systems

Download or read book Current Topics in Cybernetics and Systems written by J. Rose and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a record of the contents of the papers accepted by the Congress Committee for presentation at the Fourth International Congress of Cybernetics and Systems (Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 21-25 August 1978). Two hundred and forty-five papers from authors from thirty-three countries of all the five continents are included. The papers are presented in an abridged form in order to highlight the main themes and produce a book that is both readable and relatively inexpensive. It was felt that after the publication of the weighty and rather costly form of the Proceedings of the Third International Congress of Cybernetics and Systems held in Bucharest, Romania in 1975 (Modern Trends in Cybernetics and Systems, eds. Rose and Bilciu, W. O. G. S. c. and Springer-Verlag, 1977; 3 volumes about 3500 pages; $150), an abridged but comprehen sive version would be more acceptable to readers. It is worth noting that the full names and addresses of authors are given for each paper, and requests to authors for more information and even full-scale papers would produce a positive response. As a matter of interest, each paper carries, in addition, brief summaries. The papers are arranged in each section or symposium in the alphabetical order of authors' names; this is not necessarily the order of presentation at the Congress.

Book Dynamic Patterns

Download or read book Dynamic Patterns written by Karen M'Closkey and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-03-27 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamic Patterns explores the role of patterns in designed landscapes. Patterns are inherently relational, and the search for and the creation of patterns are endemic to many scientific and artistic endeavors. Recent advances in optical tools, sensors, and computing have expanded our understanding of patterns as a link between natural and cultural realms. Looking beyond the surface manifestation of pattern, M’Closkey and VanDerSys delve into a multifaceted examination that explores new avenues for engagement with patterns using digital media. Examining the theoretical implications of pattern-making, they probe the potential of patterns to conjoin landscape’s utilitarian and aesthetic functions. With full color throughout and over one hundred and twenty images, Dynamic Patterns utilizes work from a wide range of artists and designers to demonstrate how novel modes of visualization have facilitated new ways of seeing patterns and therefore of understanding and designing landscapes.

Book Evolution Order and Complexity

Download or read book Evolution Order and Complexity written by Kenneth Boulding and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-01-04 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evolution, Order and Complexity reflects topical interest in the relationship between the social and natural worlds. It represents the cutting edge of current thinking which challenges the natural/social dichotomy thesis by showing how the application of ideas which derive from biology can be applied and offer insight into the social realm. This is done by introducing the general system theory to the methodological debate on the relation of human and natural sciences.

Book Dyadic Walsh Analysis from 1924 Onwards Walsh Gibbs Butzer Dyadic Differentiation in Science Volume 2 Extensions and Generalizations

Download or read book Dyadic Walsh Analysis from 1924 Onwards Walsh Gibbs Butzer Dyadic Differentiation in Science Volume 2 Extensions and Generalizations written by Radomir Stankovic and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-29 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second volume of the two volumes book is dedicated to various extensions and generalizations of Dyadic (Walsh) analysis and related applications. Considered are dyadic derivatives on Vilenkin groups and various other Abelian and finite non-Abelian groups. Since some important results were developed in former Soviet Union and China, we provide overviews of former work in these countries. Further, we present translations of three papers that were initially published in Chinese. The presentation continues with chapters written by experts in the area presenting discussions of applications of these results in specific tasks in the area of signal processing and system theory. Efficient computing of related differential operators on contemporary hardware, including graphics processing units, is also considered, which makes the methods and techniques of dyadic analysis and generalizations computationally feasible. The volume 2 of the book ends with a chapter presenting open problems pointed out by several experts in the area.
