Download or read book Systems Security Engineering written by United States Department of Commerce and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-07-03 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the continuing frequency, intensity, and adverse consequences of cyber-attacks, disruptions, hazards, and other threats to federal, state, and local governments, the military, businesses, and the critical infrastructure, the need for trustworthy secure systems has never been more important to the long-term economic and national security interests of the United States. Engineering-based solutions are essential to managing the growing complexity, dynamicity, and interconnectedness of today's systems, as exemplified by cyber-physical systems and systems-of-systems, including the Internet of Things. This publication addresses the engineering-driven perspective and actions necessary to develop more defensible and survivable systems, inclusive of the machine, physical, and human components that compose the systems and the capabilities and services delivered by those systems. It starts with and builds upon a set of well-established International Standards for systems and software engineering published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and infuses systems security engineering methods, practices, and techniques into those systems and software engineering activities. The objective is to address security issues from a stakeholder protection needs, concerns, and requirements perspective and to use established engineering processes to ensure that such needs, concerns, and requirements are addressed with appropriate fidelity and rigor, early and in a sustainable manner throughout the life cycle of the system.

Book Collaborative Approaches for Cyber Security in Cyber Physical Systems

Download or read book Collaborative Approaches for Cyber Security in Cyber Physical Systems written by Theo Dimitrakos and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-02 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes cyber-security issues underpinning several cyber-physical systems and several application domains, proposing a common perspective able to collect similarities as well as depict divergences and specific solution methods. Special attention is given to those approaches and technologies that unleash the power of collaboration among stakeholders, in a field based often developed in isolation and segregation of information. Given the pervasively growing dependency of society on IT technology, and the corresponding proliferation of cyber-threats, there is both an imperative need and opportunity to develop a coherent set of techniques to cope with the changing nature of the upcoming cyber-security challenges. These include evolving threats and new technological means to exploit vulnerabilities of cyber-physical systems that have direct socio-technical, societal and economic consequences for Europe and the world. We witness cyber-attacks on large scale infrastructures for energy, transport, healthcare systems and smart systems. The interplay between security and safety issues is now paramount and will be even more relevant in the future. The book collects contributions from a number of scientists in Europe and presents the results of several European Projects, as NeCS, SPARTA, E-CORRIDOR and C3ISP. It will be of value to industrial researchers, practitioners and engineers developing cyber-physical solutions, as well as academics and students in cyber-security, ICT, and smart technologies in general.

Book Guide to Cybersecurity in Digital Transformation

Download or read book Guide to Cybersecurity in Digital Transformation written by Dietmar P.F. Möller and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-18 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today’s digital transformation environments, a rigorous cybersecurity approach to effective risk management — including contingency planning, outlining immediate actions, preparing post-breach responses — is central to defending organizations’ interconnected computer systems, networks, and infrastructure resources from malicious cyber-attacks. Specifically, cybersecurity technologies, processes, and practices need to be generalized and applied to intrusion detection and prevention measures. This entails analyzing profiles of cyber-attackers and building cyber-attack models for behavior simulation that can effectively counter such attacks. This comprehensive volume aims to cover all essential aspects of cybersecurity in digital transformation and to provide a framework for considering the many objectives and requirements involved. In addition to introducing theoretical foundations, the work also offers practical techniques for defending against malicious cybercriminals. Topics and features: Explores cybersecurity’s impact on the dynamics of interconnected, complex cyber- and physical systems, infrastructure resources, and networks Provides numerous examples of applications and best practices Considers methods that organizations can use to assess their cybersecurity awareness and/or strategy Describes anomaly intrusion detection, a key tool in thwarting both malware and theft (whether by insiders or external parties) of corporate data Addresses cyber-attacker profiles, cyber-attack models and simulation, cybersecurity ontology, access-control mechanisms, and policies for handling ransomware attacks Discusses the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, MITRE Adversarial Tactics, Techniques and Common Knowledge, CIS Critical Security Controls, and the ISA/IEC 62442 Cybersecurity Standard Gathering all the relevant information, this practical guide is eminently suitable as a self-study resource for engineers, scientists, computer scientists, and chief information officers. Further, with its many examples of best practices, it can serve as an excellent text for graduate-level courses and research into cybersecurity. Dietmar P. F. Möller, a retired full professor, is affiliated with the Institute for Mathematics at Clausthal University of Technology, Germany. He was an author of several other Springer titles, including Guide to Automotive Connectivity and Cybersecurity.

Book Versatile Cybersecurity

Download or read book Versatile Cybersecurity written by Mauro Conti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-10-17 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cyber security research is one of the important areas in the computer science domain which also plays a major role in the life of almost every individual, enterprise, society and country, which this book illustrates. A large number of advanced security books focus on either cryptography or system security which covers both information and network security. However, there is hardly any books available for advanced-level students and research scholars in security research to systematically study how the major attacks are studied, modeled, planned and combated by the community. This book aims to fill this gap. This book provides focused content related to specific attacks or attack families. These dedicated discussions in the form of individual chapters covers the application or area specific aspects, while discussing the placement of defense solutions to combat the attacks. It includes eight high quality chapters from established security research groups worldwide, which address important attacks from theoretical (modeling) as well as practical aspects. Each chapter brings together comprehensive and structured information on an attack or an attack family. The authors present crisp detailing on the state of the art with quality illustration of defense mechanisms and open research problems. This book also covers various important attacks families such as insider threats, semantics social engineering attacks, distributed denial of service attacks, botnet based attacks, cyber physical malware based attacks, cross-vm attacks, and IoT covert channel attacks. This book will serve the interests of cyber security enthusiasts, undergraduates, post-graduates, researchers and professionals working in this field.
