Book CW Continuous Wave Stimulated Brillouin Scattering of Long Pulse Chemical Laser Beams

Download or read book CW Continuous Wave Stimulated Brillouin Scattering of Long Pulse Chemical Laser Beams written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Backward Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) is currently under consideration as a nonlinear optical process for passive phase conjugation (beam clean up) phase matching (beam combination), and pointing and tracking of continuous-wave (CW) HF chemical lasers for high power applications. Theoretical considerations indicate, however, that forward SBS processes dominate over backward SBS phenomena in the steady-state limit, so that SBS exhibits the desired properties (phase conjugation) only for short time periods. Since backward SBS thresholds for CW HF lasers are about 0.20 MW per spectral line, long-pulse laboratory chemical laser sources (PCLs) are needed to investigate small-angle forward scattering phenomena and the development of techniques for their suppression. The laser data presented herein suggest that a moderate- volume, photolysis-pumped PCL is a suitable source for the study of steady-state forward SBS processes and their suppression. In particular, low pressure PCLs can simulate CW HF-laser SBS behavior under conditions of the proper bandwidth, laser spectrum, SBS media effects, longitudinal mode structure, and other high-power HF laser characteristics.

Book Advanced Phased Array Chemical High Energy APACHE Laser Program Volume 1

Download or read book Advanced Phased Array Chemical High Energy APACHE Laser Program Volume 1 written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume I of the final report for the Advanced Phased Array Chemical High Energy (APACHE) laser program presents phase conjugate laser technology which verifies and demonstrates the key technologies associated with phase conjugation of high power continuous wave chemical lasers using stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS). These demonstrations include: SBS under long pulse conditions simulating CW operation that demonstrates the feasibility of using SBS for a high power, CW laser; near diffraction limited performance for beam combination at the HF wavelength using SBS in high pressure xenon; flowing-gas SBS cell experiments demonstrating fluid mechanics capability for using a flowing SBS medium for CW SBS applications; SBS conjugation experiments using a 19-element segmented mirror showing the ability of SBS to correct piston and tilt misalignment errors in a multielement segmented optic; and experiments to determine how feedback to the master oscillator from the SBS cell affects system performance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the fifth in a series initiated in 1989 by the International Commission for Optics (ICO). These books, which are published every three years, highlight the advances in optics that are underway at the time of their publication. These are a collection of significant contributions from leading scientists and engineers throughout the world. It shows the diverse role optics play in modern society, with optics now taking its place along with mechanical, thermal, electrical and electronic options, in order to bring solutions. The world is coming to recognize the ubiquitous nature of optics and its primarily enabling role in our everyday world.

Book Fiber Lasers

Download or read book Fiber Lasers written by Liang Dong and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-09-19 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fiber laser, with its humble beginning in the late 1980s, has undergone tremendous development in the past decade or so, transforming itself from a research curiosity to a major force in modern manufacturing. Today, it is revolutionizing our economy by fundamentally changing the way we mark, machine, and process materials on an industrial scale. The recent development of high-power fiber lasers is also fundamentally shaping a wide range of other areas from physical sciences and medicine to geology and space exploration. In the past few years, the tactical deployment of direct energy weapons based on fiber lasers has become a reality. The development of fiber lasers is rooted in a number of technical areas including optical materials, optical waveguide design, nonlinear optics, optical fiber fabrication, and optical characterization, in addition to optical fiber components, and fiber laser design and architecture. No comprehensive in-depth coverage of such diverse topical areas has appeared in a single book. Many important developments have taken place in the past decade in both academia and industry. This book comprehensively covers the basics, technology and applications of fiber lasers including up-to-date developments in both academia and industry and is aimed to serve as both an introduction and research aid for graduate students, engineers, and scientists who are new to this field and also for veterans in the field

Book Nonlinear Optics

Download or read book Nonlinear Optics written by Natalia Kamanina and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-02-29 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rapid development of optoelectronic devices and laser techniques poses an important task of creating and studying, from one side, the structures capable of effectively converting, modulating, and recording optical data in a wide range of radiation energy densities and frequencies, from another side, the new schemes and approaches capable to activate and simulate the modern features. It is well known that nonlinear optical phenomena and nonlinear optical materials have the promising place to resolve these complicated technical tasks. The advanced idea, approach, and information described in this book will be fruitful for the readers to find a sustainable solution in a fundamental study and in the industry approach. The book can be useful for the students, post-graduate students, engineers, researchers and technical officers of optoelectronic universities and companies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Late in summer 1973, the Bell Museum of Pathology of the University of Minnesota Medical School, held a three day symposium to discuss some of the biological aspects of trauma disease. The meeting was intended to be a coatribution to the study of trauma by placing emphasis upon many of the basic biologic issues related to trauma injuries. It was also hoped to put in focus perspectives from which constructive interaction between basic research scientists and practicing clinicians could flow. It is our belief that it is through such interdisciplinary exchanges that intelligent progress and new developments will occur. Moreover we believe that the student body and the practicing physician can equally share this scientific backdrop, and in a sense must so participate, for in a technological society trauma injuries face the prospect of an almost exponential increase in numbers, decade to decade. With these views in mind we brought together biologists, biophysicists, biochemists, pathologists, physicians and surgeons, in an effort to build a new bridge of collaborative understanding between unrelated disciplines, which, in the past, have charac teristically rarely inter-related, one to the other. There were no hard and fast rules set in the selection of topics. Not surprisingly, therefore, the program developed into one of diverse and remarkable scope and breadth. Papers for discussion varied from the biochemistry of collagen metabolism to features of trauma characteristic of aviation and air trauma accidents.
