Book Cutter Sanborn Three Figure Author Table

Download or read book Cutter Sanborn Three Figure Author Table written by M. P. Satija and published by Ess Ess Publication. This book was released on 2021-01-30 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a popular misconception that book numbers have only a subsidiary role in library classification. The fact of the matter is that book numbers are indispensable for a fine, precise and overall logical arrangement of documents on the library shelves. The function of the book numbers begins from that of the class numbers ends. The present book has a twofold task. First, it provides an authentic version of the Cutter-Sanborn three-figure table as in India many unauthorized versions of doubtful pedigree are being used. As well known, and often rued, these tables are not entirely suitable for Indian names as these were designed for American and European authors. To mitigate the problem the table has been supplemented with Indian names added at their alphabetical place for ready use .This extended table has approximately 15850 entries (original table has only 12361). It is a time saver. Some new Western names have also been added to facilitate the Indian librarians. But the more important purpose is to provide a manual for the use of cutter tables and to prepare shelf lists or to craft unique book numbers for various categories of Indian publications and subjects, especially

Book Introduction to Cataloging and Classification

Download or read book Introduction to Cataloging and Classification written by Daniel N. Joudrey and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2015-09-29 with total page 833 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new edition of this best-selling textbook reintroduces the topic of library cataloging from a fresh, modern perspective. Not many books merit an eleventh edition, but this popular text does. Newly updated, Introduction to Cataloging and Classification provides an introduction to descriptive cataloging based on contemporary standards, explaining the basic tenets to readers without previous experience, as well as to those who merely want a better understanding of the process as it exists today. The text opens with the foundations of cataloging, then moves to specific details and subject matter such as Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR), Functional Requirements for Authority Data (FRAD), the International Cataloging Principles (ICP), and RDA. Unlike other texts, the book doesn't presume a close familiarity with the MARC bibliographic or authorities formats; ALA's Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd Edition, revised (AACR2R); or the International Standard Bibliographic Description (ISBD). Subject access to library materials is covered in sufficient depth to make the reader comfortable with the principles and practices of subject cataloging and classification. In addition, the book introduces MARC, BIBFRAME, and other approaches used to communicate and display bibliographic data. Discussions of formatting, presentation, and administrative issues complete the book; questions useful for review and study appear at the end of each chapter.

Book excerpt: Bestselling author William Bernhardt is an unsurpassed master at blending psychological suspense with gripping, surprise-filled legal action. Now, Bernhardt and his crusading attorney Ben Kincaid return in a thrilling story of love, hate, and the power of a courtroom to separate deception from the truth. In Tulsa, Ben Kincaid has built a national reputation as a stalwart defense attorney who will fight tirelessly for his clients. In Evanston, Illinois, Johnny Christensen has built a national reputation as a sadistic bigot who beat and stabbed a gay man and left him to die. When Johnny’s mother comes to Ben and begs him to defend her son, he has one secret reason for saying no. But while Ben turns down the case, his younger, beautiful partner, Christina McCall, does not. Traveling to Chicago and facing an explosion of controversy and deadly violence surrounding the trial, Christina steps into a case that is already nearly lost. Her client’s only defense is his claim that he left his victim bludgeoned but alive. To prove that someone else committed the actual murder, Christina needs a little bit of evidence—and a good motive to go with it. When unforeseen circumstances force Ben Kincaid to enter the trial, the defense attorney sees only one way to prove Johnny’s innocence. But Ben’s plan means luring a killer out of the woodwork—even though he may kill again. . . . A novel of gut-wrenching twists and surprises, this thriller brilliantly explores the passions between lovers—and the passions behind society’s most heinous crimes. Once again, the remarkable William Bernhardt makes us challenge every assumption, second-guess every judgment, and feel the terror of the truth.
