Download or read book Renewable Energy Powered Desalination Handbook written by Gnaneswar Gude and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2018-03-08 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renewable Energy Powered Desalination Handbook: Applications and Thermodynamics offers a practical handbook on the use of renewable technologies to produce freshwater using sustainable methods. Sections cover the different renewable technologies currently used in the field, including solar, wind, geothermal and nuclear desalination. This coverage is followed by an equally important clear and rigorous discussion of energy recovery and the thermodynamics of desalination processes. While seawater desalination can provide a climate-independent source of drinking water, the process is energy-intensive and environmentally damaging. This book provides readers with the latest methods, processes, and technologies available for utilizing renewable energy applications as a valuable technology. Desalination based on the use of renewable energy sources can provide a sustainable way to produce fresh water. It is expected to become economically attractive as the costs of renewable technologies continue to decline and the prices of fossil fuels continue to increase. - Covers renewable energy sources, such as nuclear, geothermal, solar and wind powered desalination and energy storage and optimization - Includes energy recovery schemes, optimization and process controls - Elaborates on the principles of thermodynamics and second law efficiencies to improve process performance, including solar desalination - Explains global applicability of solar, wind, geothermal and nuclear energy sources with case studies - Discusses renewable energy-desalinated water optimization schemes for island communities

Download or read book Sustainable Hydrogen Production Processes written by José Luz Silveira and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-11 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work presents a comprehensive investigation of the most significant renewable hydrogen production processes. Technical, economic and ecological studies are described for the processes of steam reforming of ethanol, natural gas and biogas; water electrolysis with energy from renewable sources (wind power, photovoltaic and hydroelectric), and hydrogen production using algae. Aimed at mechanical and chemical engineering graduate students and researchers involved in environmental sciences, sustainable energy and bioenergy research, this book introduces readers to the latest developments in the field and provides essential reference material for future research. The book first presents a comprehensive literature review of the processes studied. Subsequently, it provides a technical report on assessing the energetic efficiency for each hydrogen production process, as well as an economic study of the respective hydrogen production costs. Lastly, the ecological efficiency of each process is addressed. Over the past few decades, the UNESP’s Group of Optimization of Energetic Systems, headed by Professor José Luz Silveira, has been pursuing research in the field of renewable energy generation. A major part of the group’s research focuses on the production of hydrogen as a fuel and its important contribution to mitigating the environmental impacts caused by pollutant emissions.

Download or read book Vocational Training and Innovative Practices in the Environmental Sector written by Roland Loos and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides specialist information and application-oriented recommendations to implement innovative environmental vocational education and training (VET) measures and practices. Chapter 1 explains study method and structure. Chapter 2 provides an overview of the current state of environmental VET in Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden. Each summary provides basic data on environmental VET; lists legislative decisions on integration of general environmental education into schools; discusses initiatives regarding specific environmental VET; and describes and evaluates the most important training initiatives related to use of solar energy and geothermal energy. Chapter 3 contains a short discourse on the concept and meaning of innovation from the point of view of system theory and for VET before presenting and evaluating these case studies of innovative training initiatives: use of solar and geothermal energy in Greece, Austria, Germany, and Denmark and wind energy in the Netherlands; labor-market integration of specific target groups in Denmark, Sweden, and Spain; social partners initiatives in Austria and Sweden; and local continuing training initiatives in Luxembourg. Chapter 4 analyzes skills requirements for specific target groups and discusses the extent to which good practices can be transferred. Chapter 5 estimates the new gainful employment and jobs created through environment-related occupations. (Contains 49 references.) (YLB)

Download or read book Law and renewable energy written by Fernando Joaquim Ferreira Maia and published by Papel da Palavra. This book was released on 2023-08-01 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discussing the right of Renewable Energies is to ensure the possibility of sustainable development, by a path different from that taken by the great central nations. Academics from China and Brazil lend themselves, through this cooperation, to the production of knowledge that serves as a basis for an adequate regulation of the matter, taking into account the international law for people’s development and the common principles of environmental protection added to the social protection and improvement of institutions plus the control of planned actions regarding the execution and implementation of this new energy matrix. Law is a language that makes it possible, in addition to esolving possible conflicts, to guide and put into practice concrete actions in the sense of expanding possibilities for the good use of renewable energies.
