Book excerpt: Amityville Horror meets The Conjuring! Our story starts on 1976, when Ronald Mitchell shoots his girlfriend and girlfriend's parents and sister to death in Edgewater, Maryland. Ronald seems like he is possessed and no motive to the murders are found. Later in the same week, five-year-old Tom Hall is watching the news at home concerning the Edgewater murders before his mother notices and takes him away from the TV. Thirty years later, Tom and his newlywed fiancée, Anna, find themselves moving into the same house. They are aware of the house’s gruesome past, but Anna convinces Tom that moving there is a good idea, as they would never again find a house like that with such a low price. And thus the stage is set for the tragic events that are about to unfold. A Caliber Comics release.

Book Zora and Me The Cursed Ground

Download or read book Zora and Me The Cursed Ground written by T. R. Simon and published by Candlewick Press. This book was released on 2018-09-11 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A powerful fictionalized account of Zora Neale Hurston’s childhood adventures explores the idea of collective memory and the lingering effects of slavery. “History ain’t in a book, especially when it comes to folks like us. History is in the lives we lived and the stories we tell each other about those lives.” When Zora Neale Hurston and her best friend, Carrie Brown, discover that the town mute can speak after all, they think they’ve uncovered a big secret. But Mr. Polk’s silence is just one piece of a larger puzzle that stretches back half a century to the tragic story of an enslaved girl named Lucia. As Zora’s curiosity leads a reluctant Carrie deeper into the mystery, the story unfolds through alternating narratives. Lucia’s struggle for freedom resonates through the years, threatening the future of America’s first incorporated black township — the hometown of author Zora Neale Hurston (1891–1960). In a riveting coming-of-age tale, award-winning author T. R. Simon champions the strength of a people to stand up for justice.

Book De colonising the Biblical Narrative Volume 1

Download or read book De colonising the Biblical Narrative Volume 1 written by Norman Habel and published by ATF Press. This book was released on 2022-09-01 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: De-colonising the Biblical Narrative, Volume One represents a landmark in contemporary hermeneutics. In this volume we take into account our colonial history and develop a de-colonising hermeneutic which we employ to identify the colonial editing of the text and to retrieve precolonial narratives with which First Nations peoples of Australia may resonate. In the first volume we attempt to de-colonise the narratives of Genesis 1-11 and retrieve pre-colonial legends that are comparable to First Nations ancestral narratives. In Genesis One, for example, we retrieve a Primal Land Narrative in which the primordial ground is born, comes to life, creates life and is named 'Land' by the Creator Spirit. As we work through the traditions of Genesis 1-11 we also discern colonial additions like the mandate to dominate associated with the Imago Dei in Genesis 1.26-28. At the close of the analysis of each narrative, we include the response of First Nations Australia, thereby illustrating, not only the significance of our finding, but also the relevance for First Nations peoples.
