Book Curriculum Guidelines for Environmental Education

Download or read book Curriculum Guidelines for Environmental Education written by and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This curriculum guideline for environmental education in Scottish schools is for levels 10-14, 14-16, and post-16. The rationale of the program is based on a belief of uneasiness of ordinary people about their environment, the relationship of people with their environment, a need for change, a lack of current progress, the need to teach for the environment, and the development of an environmental ethic. The aim of the curriculum is identified as "education in and through the environment, education about the environment, and education for the environment." The guiding principles are based on: an ecocentric and concentric approach; a holistic view; a coherent, continuous, and progressive lifelong process; direct experience; interdisciplinary character; environmental issues; problem solving; a variety of teaching and learning approaches; being pupil centered; outward looking; generating action; and being exemplary. Course topics are developed for primary, secondary, and post-16 levels. Collaboration between environmental organizations is stressed along with an awareness of available resources. The use of primary environmental sources is advocated. Means of implementation and recommendations are given for the curriculum. Appendices include a flowchart of the "Framework for the Production of a School Environmental Education Policy," and a listing of environmental organizations, with addresses. (ML)

Book Curriculum and Environmental Education

Download or read book Curriculum and Environmental Education written by Alan Reid and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-11-14 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection traces the development and findings of curriculum studies of environmental education since the mid-1970s. Based on a virtual special issue of the Journal of Curriculum Studies, the volume identifies a series of curriculum challenges for and from environmental education. These include key questions in curriculum politics, planning and implementation, including which educative experiences should a curriculum foster and why; what the scope of a worthwhile curriculum should be and how it should be decided, organised and reworked; why distinctive curricula are provided to different groups of students; and how curriculum should best be enacted and evaluated? The editor and contributors call for renewed attention to the possibilities for future directions in research, in light of previously published work and innovations in scholarship. They also offer critical commentary on curriculum, critique and crisis in environmental education, through new material and previous studies from the journal, by addressing three key themes: perspectives on curriculum and environment education; accounting for curriculum in environmental education; and changes in curriculum for environmental education.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A People’s Curriculum for the Earth is a collection of articles, role plays, simulations, stories, poems, and graphics to help breathe life into teaching about the environmental crisis. The book features some of the best articles from Rethinking Schools magazine alongside classroom-friendly readings on climate change, energy, water, food, and pollution—as well as on people who are working to make things better. A People’s Curriculum for the Earth has the breadth and depth ofRethinking Globalization: Teaching for Justice in an Unjust World, one of the most popular books we’ve published. At a time when it’s becoming increasingly obvious that life on Earth is at risk, here is a resource that helps students see what’s wrong and imagine solutions. Praise for A People's Curriculum for the Earth "To really confront the climate crisis, we need to think differently, build differently, and teach differently. A People’s Curriculum for the Earth is an educator’s toolkit for our times." — Naomi Klein, author of The Shock Doctrine and This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate "This volume is a marvelous example of justice in ALL facets of our lives—civil, social, educational, economic, and yes, environmental. Bravo to the Rethinking Schools team for pulling this collection together and making us think more holistically about what we mean when we talk about justice." — Gloria Ladson-Billings, Kellner Family Chair in Urban Education, University of Wisconsin-Madison "Bigelow and Swinehart have created a critical resource for today’s young people about humanity’s responsibility for the Earth. This book can engender the shift in perspective so needed at this point on the clock of the universe." — Gregory Smith, Professor of Education, Lewis & Clark College, co-author with David Sobel of Place- and Community-based Education in Schools

Book Environmental Education Teacher Resource Handbook

Download or read book Environmental Education Teacher Resource Handbook written by Richard J. Wilke and published by Krause Publications. This book was released on 1993 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Preface: -- The Environmental Education Teacher Resource Handbook is one of a series of practical references for curriculum developers, education faculty, veteran teachers, and student teachers. The handbook is designed to provide information on the background of environmental education (EE) curriculum, as well as current, comprehensive information on publications, standards, and special materials for K-12 EE. Think of this handbook as the first place to look when you are revising or developing your EE curriculum-or if you need resource information on EE any time of the year. This handbook does not seek to prescribe any particular form of curriculum, nor does it follow any set of standards or guidelines. Instead, the book provides a general grounding in the EE curriculum, so that you can use this information and then proceed in the direction best suited for your budget, your school, and your district. What this handbook gives you is a sense of the numerous options that are available-it is up to you to use the information to develop the appropriate curriculum or program for your situation.

Book The Environmental Education Collection

Download or read book The Environmental Education Collection written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This resource guide is designed to help educators find curricula, multimedia resources, and other educational materials that can enhance the teaching of environmental education in a variety of settings. Curriculum guides and other educational materials listed in this guide were evaluated by classroom teachers, content experts, and environmental educators. Each set of materials was reviewed by at least three people. Curriculum materials included in this compendium were evaluated using the Environmental Education Materials Guidelines for Excellence developed by the North American Association For Environmental Education (NAAEE). The write-ups were designed to point out the variety of factors an educator may wish to consider when deciding which materials are most appropriate for a particular group of students and how those materials might be used most effectively. The first section of this guide highlights approximately 50 environmental education curriculum materials. Each entry contains a summary of the curriculum information about grade levels, subject areas, author, publishers, and price; comments specific to the six key characteristics of quality environmental education materials according to the Guidelines for Excellence; and a sample of quotations from the reviewers' evaluation sheets. The second section contains an annotated listing of support materials. Appendices include a curriculum matrix, publisher index, and an author/editor index (PVD).
