Download or read book The Green Energy Ship Concept written by Max F. Platzer and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-12-05 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking book aims to show that technology currently exists to build and operate large autonomous sailing ships equipped with hydrokinetic turbines and electrolysers that could operate in high-wind ocean areas. This technology would enable seawater to be converted into storable hydrogen, thereby tapping into an inexhaustible energy reservoir sufficient for the transition to an emission-free global economy. The book is presented in two parts. Part one presents a broad look at possible solutions to the climate change challenge and provides an overview of current approaches. Part two introduces 12 specific technologies that could enable the green energy ship concept.
Download or read book Energy from the Ocean written by Owen M. Griffin and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The oceans and their environment have long been envisioned as renewable sources of energy. It is the purpose of this report to assess the feasibility of drawing on the sea for power and to determine the extent to which the oceans are likely to serve future energy needs. A review is made of proposed U.S. funding levels for the research and development of renewable energy sources during the years 1975 - 1979, and a study is made of the technical and environmental acceptability status of tidal, wind, and sea thermal power generation systems. The estimated costs of these environmental power sources are compared with the prevailing power costs for nuclear and coal plants. On the basis of these comparisons, recommendations are made for a program of research and development, culminating in the construction of prototype plants, for wind and sea thermal power plants. Tidal power generation is found to be technically feasible but economically uninviting at present. (Author).

Download or read book The Ocean Energy Economy written by Asian Development Bank and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2023-10-01 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication explores marine renewable energy sources from floating solar farms to deep ocean turbines and shows how increasing the capacity of the blue economy can help the Asia and Pacific region transition to a clean energy, low carbon future. Providing an overview of ADB’s Marine Aquaculture, Reefs, Renewable Energy, and Ecotourism for Ecosystem Services (MARES) project, it examines stressors impacting the region’s oceans and examines the benefits of multifunctional approaches. It considers emerging ocean entrepreneurship and shows how adopting a holistic blue economy vision can produce a regenerative marine environment, support coastal communities, and help meet climate goals.
