Book Future Research on Transonic Unsteady Aerodynamics and Its Aeroelastic Applications

Download or read book Future Research on Transonic Unsteady Aerodynamics and Its Aeroelastic Applications written by ADVISORY GROUP FOR AEROSPACE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT NEUILLY-SUR-SEINE (France) and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Workshop focused on strategies for promoting and developing engineering-level transonic flutter prediction techniques. The technology of transonic aerodynamics is currently undergoing rapid development. Significant progress is being made to solve the inherently nonlinear equations describing unsteady motions of wings in transonic flow, while the availability of reliable and efficient computational methods will greatly enhance the ability to predict the aeroelastic behaviour of modern aircraft operating under transonic flow conditions. AGARD-SMP has previously coordinated unsteady aerodynamic research carried out on a number of standard wind tunnel model configurations and published the results. The proposals contained in the Evaluation Report (W.J. Mykytow) on the Fall 1984 Structures and Materials Panel Specialists' Meeting on Transonic Unsteady Aerodynamics, together with an expanded range of aeroelastic configurations, formed the guidelines which this Workshop followed.

Book Aeroservoelasticity

Download or read book Aeroservoelasticity written by Ashish Tewari and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-24 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents the state of the art in aeroservoelastic (ASE) modeling and analysis and develops a systematic theoretical and computational framework for use by researchers and practicing engineers. It is the first book to focus on the mathematical modeling of structural dynamics, unsteady aerodynamics, and control systems to evolve a generic procedure to be applied for ASE synthesis. Existing robust, nonlinear, and adaptive control methodology is applied and extended to some interesting ASE problems, such as transonic flutter and buffet, post-stall buffet and maneuvers, and flapping flexible wing. The author derives a general aeroservoelastic plant via the finite-element structural dynamic model, unsteady aerodynamic models for various regimes in the frequency domain, and the associated state-space model by rational function approximations. For more advanced models, the full-potential, Euler, and Navier-Stokes methods for treating transonic and separated flows are also briefly addressed. Essential ASE controller design and analysis techniques are introduced to the reader, and an introduction to robust control-law design methods of LQG/LTR and H2/H∞ synthesis is followed by a brief coverage of nonlinear control techniques of describing functions and Lyapunov functions. Practical and realistic aeroservoelastic application examples derived from actual experiments are included throughout. Aeroservoelasiticity fills an important gap in the aerospace engineering literature and will be a valuable guide for graduate students and advanced researchers in aerospace engineering, as well as professional engineers, technicians, and test pilots in the aircraft industry and laboratories.

Book Unsteady Aerodynamics and Aeroelasticity of Turbomachines

Download or read book Unsteady Aerodynamics and Aeroelasticity of Turbomachines written by Torsten H. Fransson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 835 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twenty-one years have passed since the first symposium in this series was held in Paris (1976). Since then there have been meetings in Lausanne (1980), Cambridge (1984), Aachen (1987), Beijing (1989), Notre Dame (1991) and Fukuoka (1994). During this period a tremendous development in the field of unsteady aerodynamics and aeroelasticity in turbomachines has taken place. As steady-state flow conditions become better known, and as blades in the turbomachine are constantly pushed towards lower weight, and higher load and efficiency, the importance of unsteady phenomena appear more clearly. th The 8 Symposium was, as the previous ones, of high quality. Furthermore, it presented the audience with the latest developments in experimental, numerical and theoretical research. More papers than ever before were submitted to the conference. As the organising committee wanted to preserve the uniqueness of the symposium by having single sessions, and thus mingle speakers and audience with different backgrounds in this interdisciplinary field, only a limited number of papers could be accepted. 54 papers were accepted and presented at the meeting, all of which are included in the present proceedings.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational aeroacoustics is rapidly emerging as an essential element in the study of aerodynamic sound. As with all emerging technologies, it is paramount that we assess the various opportuni ties and establish achievable goals for this new technology. Essential to this process is the identification and prioritization of fundamental aeroacoustics problems which are amenable to direct numerical siIn ulation. Questions, ranging from the role numerical methods play in the classical theoretical approaches to aeroacoustics, to the correct specification of well-posed numerical problems, need to be answered. These issues provided the impetus for the Workshop on Computa tional Aeroacoustics sponsored by ICASE and the Acoustics Division of NASA LaRC on April 6-9, 1992. The participants of the Work shop were leading aeroacousticians, computational fluid dynamicists and applied mathematicians. The Workshop started with the open ing remarks by M. Y. Hussaini and the welcome address by Kristin Hessenius who introduced the keynote speaker, Sir James Lighthill. The keynote address set the stage for the Workshop. It was both an authoritative and up-to-date discussion of the state-of-the-art in aeroacoustics. The presentations at the Workshop were divided into five sessions - i) Classical Theoretical Approaches (William Zorumski, Chairman), ii) Mathematical Aspects of Acoustics (Rodolfo Rosales, Chairman), iii) Validation Methodology (Allan Pierce, Chairman), iv) Direct Numerical Simulation (Michael Myers, Chairman), and v) Unsteady Compressible Flow Computa tional Methods (Douglas Dwoyer, Chairman).
