Book Current State of Chinese Direct Mail Industry

Download or read book Current State of Chinese Direct Mail Industry written by Jinkai Qian and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Indicated by the Direct Marketing Association (DMA), direct mail marketing expenditures in the USA were nearly $61.3 billion USD in 2008, which was much higher than that of China's $1.57 billion USD in the same time period (Chinese Graphic Arts Net). Direct mail products -- as defined by DMA -- include catalogs, letters, brochures, pamphlets, circulars and preprinted inserts, video and audiotapes, diskettes, promotional items and communications sent through the mail or other delivery services. In order to better understand the state of direct mail in China, the researcher conducted six detailed interviews with five Chinese printers and one advertising agency. The result showed that with the purchase of digital presses, four of the five printing companies are capable of producing all levels of customized direct mail from versioning to highly personalized print. But all of them indicated that digital printing only occupies very limited portion of their annual production output. However, some printing companies interviewed regarded direct mail as one of their major products, which generate most of their revenue. Moreover, their direct mail job volumes are quite stable mostly due to long-term cooperation with same group of customers, such as banks and publishers. But according to the ad agency interviewed, the usage of direct mail decreased noticeably in recent times due to the emerging and growing E-marketing channels like social media. In addition, most clients of that ads agency have specific marketing plans, which are based on marketing budget, return on investment (ROI) and creativity, therefore its challenging to persuade clients to utilize direct mail because of its high production cost. The researcher concluded that the three most challenging obstacles that Chinese direct mail industry is facing are: obtaining quality customer data, competition with other advertising media, cost of digital printing and postage."--Abstract.

Book Modernizing China s Industries

Download or read book Modernizing China s Industries written by Colin G. Brown and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book fills an important gap in understanding the process of economic transformation by providing a comprehensive and in-depth micro-level analysis of industrial transition. . . The book is highly recommended for those who are working on or studying the Chinese economic transformation focusing especially on industry and its transition. Ligang Song, Economic Record As the authors admit, the wool industry may seem a rather obscure choice (p. 23). Yet this is a book of interest to a much wider relationship than agro-business specialists. It provides a meticulous case-study of one industry which illuminates a number of broader issues currently under discussion in the China studies field. . . As the Chinese economy becomes more variegated, economists and political scientists trying to understand the Chinese economic reform experience will increasingly have to rely on such studies. They bring out the intricacies of this process and help us to move from across-the-board generalizations on property rights reform to more nuanced analyses of economic transition. Björn Alpermann, The China Journal China defies generalizations, and the only way that we can hope to obtain a clear idea of the process of reform is through detailed studies, that trace the complex ebb and flow of reforms, including the interactions between centre and locality, and between the stages of the processing. This is a valuable study that will stand the test of time. Will Martin, The World Bank, US This book is more than yet another industry report . This is a book on transition. It describes the mega-forces privatization; state-owned enterprise reform; internationalization; increasing competition and their mega-consequences the proliferation of small, private traders; the diversification of the process sector; the disintegration of government agencies and private initiatives that had been in charge of coordinating and managing quality that not only affected the wool sector, but are literally re-defining the fabric of China s economy. For those interested in trying to better understand the fastest growing economy in the world, this is a must read. Neither the authors competence in wool technology nor their description of the institutional details of the wool economy gets in the way of their main message. Powerful economic forces are at work in China. In some cases there are positive benefits through competitive and improved incentives. In other cases, however, there is a cost in terms of rising transaction costs, imperfect information and the inability to rationalize the evolving supply chains. Scott Rozelle, University of California, US China is the world s largest producer and consumer of wool textiles but the structure of its industry remains confusing and complex to many. While China offers the most important growth opportunity in the world today, the transition from a centrally planned to a market economy has compounded the difficulties and risks for many traders and investors wishing to deal with and in this market. This publication makes a major contribution towards unravelling the complexity of Chinese industrial structures through its review of recent changes to one of China s oldest but still significant manufacturing sectors, the wool textile industry. The lessons learned through this study will be relevant to anyone wishing to understand China s industrial modernization processes. Barry White, Chief Executive Officer, International Fibre Council (IFC) Ltd, Director, Australia China Business Council Exposed to powerful new economic forces, and undergoing dramatic ownership reforms and technological changes, China s industries are modernizing at a breakneck pace. In many industries, the outcomes have been chaotic and poorly aligned with societal objectives. This book analyses the transformation and modernization of China s industries through a detailed investigation of the wool and wool textile industries. The authors argue that to remai

Book The Market Mechanism and Economic Reforms in China

Download or read book The Market Mechanism and Economic Reforms in China written by William Byrd and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-04 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This theoretical and empirical study of market-oriented reforms in Chinese industry since the late 1970s focuses on the expansion of the market mechanism in the allocation of industrial products and the concurrent decline of directive planning - a strategy that is a crucial component of the ambitious overall reform "package" that Chinese reformers are trying to implement. The expanding role of Chinese industrial goods has had major implications for the functioning and importance of planning which, the author argues, has become largely irrelevant in terms of direct control over short-term allocation.

Book China s Industrial Revolution And Economic Presence

Download or read book China s Industrial Revolution And Economic Presence written by Manoranjan Dutta and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005-12-30 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For some twenty-five years after 1949, China did not exist and the country was only rediscovered in the 1970s. As China looks set to soar in the new millennium, there is an urgency to understand the world's most populous economy with a billion plus people. This book aims to shed light on the country's rapid industrialization and internationalization by looking at questions such as: Can China sustain its accelerated rate of growth? Can labor supply be sustained at a relatively low wage rate? Can inflow of foreign direct investment be sustained at a high rate, given the consequent exposure to inflation? Will China's domestic market absorb its own output as the limit on the ability to export manufactures to overseas markets is reached? Is China's currency undervalued? Given China's foreign exchange reserves, should the country have a freely convertible currency?
