Between caring for his ailing mother and running the family farm, Brandt is stretched thin. Too thin. When his mother begs him to enter a local scavenger hunt, win the prize money, and convert the farm into an orchard, he knows he can’t refuse her anything, so he reluctantly agrees. While seeking clues to the scavenger hunt, Gracie and Brandt keep bumping into each other. Gracie’s always had a crush on him that keeps her from stringing two coherent words together. Book excerpt: Cupid's Quest Season Two is definitely not your typical romantic comedy!I stopped in front of a display of headshots pinned to a board. This season's Cupid's Quest contestants. And right in the middle, my photo. I stabbed it with my finger. "And no more adorable red curls! I don't want to be known as The Redhead, for god's sake! I'm a great comic. I have dirt. I have grit. I can go through depression, just like the greats!"Knox Dobiecki was the fan favorite in Season One of Cupid's Quest, the new hit adventure reality show-but that didn't help him land any gigs as a stand-up comic. Offered the chance to return to the show, Knox is determined to change his cute boy-next-door image.Lie, cheat, steal? No problem. Sex with willing contestants? Absolutely. Maybe a fist-fight with one of the smaller male contestants, if it wouldn't hurt too much? Hm. Maybe. But Knox's sweetheart reputation has preceded him, and Cupid's Quest voters pair him with Edwina, the straight-laced girl next door. How's he supposed to look tough now? From the northern lights to the Amazon River and beyond, Knox must find out what's really important. Is it building a bad boy reputation? Winning the competition? Realizing that maybe Edwina is a lot cooler than he thought? Cupid's Quest Season Two is just as funny, startling, and sexy as the first season!

Book Women Epic and Transition in British Romanticism

Download or read book Women Epic and Transition in British Romanticism written by Elisa Beshero-Bondar and published by University of Delaware. This book was released on 2011 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women, Epic, and Transition in British Romanticism argues that early nineteenth-century women poets contributed some of the most daring work in modernizing the epic genre. The book examines several long poems to provide perspective on women poets working with and against men in related efforts, contributing together to a Romantic movement of large-scale genre revision. Women poets challenged longstanding categorical approaches to gender and nation in the epic tradition, and they raised politically charged questions about women's importance in moments of historical crisis. While Romantic epics did not all engage in radical questioning or undermining of authority, this study calls attention to some of the more provocative poems in their approach to gender, culture, and history. This study prioritizes long poems written by and about women during the Romantic era, and does so in context with influential epics by male contemporaries. The book takes its cue from a dramatic increase in the publication of epics in the early nineteenth-century. At their most innovative, Romantic epics provoked questions about the construction of ideological meaning and historical memory, and they centralized women's experiences in entirely new ways to reflect on defeat, loss, and inevitable transition. For the first time the epic became an attractive genre for ambitious women poets. The book offers a timely response to recent groundbreaking scholarship on nineteenth-century epic by Herbert Tucker and Simon Dentith, and should be of interest to Romanticists and scholars of 18th- and 19th-century literature and history, gender and genre, and women's studies.

Book Faulkner s Reception of Apuleius The Golden Ass in The Reivers

Download or read book Faulkner s Reception of Apuleius The Golden Ass in The Reivers written by Vernon L. Provencal and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2020-07-09 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Faulkner's final novel, The Reivers, has been gently dismissed by scholars and critics as no more than its subtitle claims, A Reminiscence. Although the new millennium has seen a new appreciation for Faulkner's later novels, The Reivers is still perceived as a slightly fictionalized comic memoir romanticizing the early life of the author in the pre-civil rights American South. This volume takes this dismissal of The Reivers to task for failing to appreciate its employment of the Apuleian narrative of life-altering metamorphosis to offer, as his literary farewell, hope for humanity's self-redemption. Vernon L. Provencal studies the reception of The Golden Ass in The Reivers as comic novels of moral katabasis (wilful descent into the lawless underworld) and providential anabasis (societal and spiritual redemption). As the independent basis of the reception study, The Reivers receives its first ever detailed reading, while The Golden Ass is read anew from the teleological perspective offered by the (undervalued) prophecy that in the end the comic hero would become the book itself.
