Book Arts Management Cultural Policy the African Diaspora

Download or read book Arts Management Cultural Policy the African Diaspora written by Antonio C. Cuyler and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-15 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book centers people of African descent as cultural leaders to challenge the myth that they do not know how or care about managing and preserving their culture. Arts Management, Cultural Policy, & the African Diaspora also presents comparative case studies of the challenges, differences, similarities, and successes in approaches to cultural leadership across multiple cultural contexts throughout the diaspora. This volume disrupts the enduring and systemic global marginalization, oppression, and subjugation that threatens and undermines people of African descent’s cultural contributions to humanity. The most important distinguishing feature of the volume is its geographical use of the African diaspora to explore the subjects of arts management and cultural policy which, to date, no volume has done before. Furthermore, the volume’s comparative examination of ten critical, historical, practical, and theoretical questions makes it a significant contribution to the literatures in Arts Management, Cultural Policy, Cultural, Africana, African American, and Ethnic studies.

Book Journal of Cultural Management and Cultural Policy Zeitschrift f r Kulturmanagement und Kulturpolitik

Download or read book Journal of Cultural Management and Cultural Policy Zeitschrift f r Kulturmanagement und Kulturpolitik written by Constance DeVereaux and published by transcript Verlag. This book was released on 2021-12-31 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Journal of Cultural Management and Cultural Policy offers international perspectives on a wide range of issues in cultural management and cultural policy research and practice. This issue looks at the effects political upheavals and processes of social transformation have on the conditions for cultural production, dissemination, education, policy, and management. The transfer from one political party to another, even when it occurs through legitimate political processes, can mean the difference between funding and lack of funding, restrictive versus liberal policies, or freedom of expression and censorship. The 1989 transformations in Central and Eastern Europe are one example among many others. Current upheavals in many countries have major implications for cultural management and politics given that artistic autonomy is at risk or already restricted with the potential to fundamentally reorder the cultural field. The contributors confront and reflect upon instances of political upheaval and social change that have had a pronounced effect on the arts.

Book Policy Strategies for a Performing Arts Sector

Download or read book Policy Strategies for a Performing Arts Sector written by Amos Darkwa Asare and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The arts and cultural sector in Ghana are of significant public importance and have witnessed tremendous growth in the past. However, the general consumption pattern of the arts and culture has been transformed in recent years in Ghana. In this study, I analyze cultural policy support for a sustainable performing arts sector. This is because arts and culture have not received much attention from public policy analysts in Ghana. I examine the strategic goals of cultural policy and support for the performing arts in Ghana. I adopt a qualitative mode of inquiry using observations, expert interviews and documents to analyze cultural policy support for the performing arts. The findings reveal that cultural policy in Ghana encompasses diverse areas yet interconnected to achieve cultural goals. I, therefore, conclude that effective support systems are needed from the government and other stakeholders to boost the arts and cultural sector in Ghana.

Book Cultural Economy and Television in Jamaica and Ghana

Download or read book Cultural Economy and Television in Jamaica and Ghana written by Deborah Hickling Gordon and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-11-25 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book proposes contemporary decolonization as an approach to developing cultural economies in the Global South. It presents the account of the transformation of television in Jamaica and Ghana to audiovisual subsectors; from cultural institutions to cultural industries and then subsectors of emerging cultural economies as representative case studies. ‘Glocal’ changes are presented within five organizing phenomena: philosophical, ideological, and economic change, and their impact on governance and the operational transformation of the television sectors of Jamaica and Ghana. This book represents the first critical examination and comparison of cultural and creative industries (CCI) and economy concepts in the Caribbean and Africa. It is an original contribution to the development of strategies that influence processes, structures, and policies related to the cultural economy concept and those required to improve television industries. This process of describing culturally specific characteristics of CCI is designed to be applicable to the CCI of developing countries including those in Africa and the Caribbean, where interpretations and implementation suited for advanced industrial nations have been insufficiently questioned and challenged.
