Book Cultivating Love and Renewal in Your Life and in Your Marriage

Download or read book Cultivating Love and Renewal in Your Life and in Your Marriage written by Ken Mcgill and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2014-08-07 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cultivating Love Renewal is the first of five books in the Cultivating Love series, where the theme is to help couples recover and rebuild their relationship after discovering unfaithfulness. Cultivating Love Renewal is for couples who have decided they wish to rebuild their relationship, and this workbook provides the couple with practical, effective and clinical "tools" to assist them in their process of defining and growing healthy, safe and edifying behaviors that will produce love, and strengthen and protect their marriage. In addition to the discipline of Theology, Cultivating Love Renewal also integrates "treatment" materials from the disciplines of psychology, addiction, as well as 12 Step recovery principles, so that as you work through the "Process Point" exercises, you'll be able to holistically identify necessary and salient "ingredients" that speak to your life and could be a part of your overall growth and marital strengthening process. So why is this workbook called Cultivating Love? Because I continue to be amazed regarding how God helps us to grasp and understand supernatural concepts as we study the natural environment that we live in. One such concept is the word and process called Phytoremediation, a crucial term in the process of cultivating love. Phytoremediation is an environmentally sound technology (EST), in which plants are used to remove, detoxify, or immobilize environmental contaminants that are in the soil and in the water. Plants belonging to the Cruciferae family work the best, and these particular plants are named and are a part of this family because they have a corolla of four petals, arranged like a cross. Theologically, I am reminded of what is written in the New Testament Book of James 1:21 - "Humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you." What I interpret from this is, if we "plant" or integrate the words, some which come from the theological, psychological, addiction and 12 Step domains, into our minds (I remind the reader we came from and will return to the soil - Genesis 3:19), then we give ourselves the opportunity to remediate or heal the mind, soul and spirit of ourselves, and if the right "seeds" are planted within us, we give ourselves the opportunity to grow healthy values and different outcomes in the "micro-seasons" of our lives. If you wish to grow love in your life, then you are encouraged to focus on planting "seeds" or characteristics that will one day mature into the behavior that is called Love. Even though there is great profundity with God, the process of cultivating love is as simple as this. Cultivating Love Renewal and all of the books in the Cultivating Love series are great resources for individuals, couples, people who are challenged with addictive behaviors as well as for Counselors, Pastors, Pastoral Counselors, Clinical Interns and Clinicians. Other books in the Cultivating Love series are: 1. Enhancing Communication: Effective communication tools to facilitate dialogue, empowerment and conflict resolution. This is a staple in my counseling practice. 2. Finishing Strong: 26.2 exercises to address compulsive sexual behavior, for individual use or to be used in groups. 3. When Secrets Surface: An in depth exploration of how to deal with the discovery of unfaithfulness, with insight and practical exercises to help you make safe, informed and healthy choices regarding what direction you wish to take with your relationship. 4. Growing Character: Identifying, exploring and cultivating values that help you to determine how you wish to live your life. Download or read book Cultivating Love written by Ken Mcgill and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-01-30 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cultivating Love Growing Character is the fifth book in the Cultivating Love series and is actually a revised excerpt from Cultivating Love Renewal (Book 1), Cultivating Love Finishing Strong (Book 3) and Cultivating Love When Secrets Surface (Book 4). Growing Character is released as a “stand alone” version for the very reason it is included in the other books: regardless of the issues that we may struggle with in life and in our relationships (communication, infidelity, parenting issues, addictions, etc.) character growth is an essential part of our personal development and it is the application of our character values that leads us to the fruitful resolution of most of those issues. Like the other books in the Cultivating Love series, Growing Character is based on the principle of Phytoremediation. Phytoremediation is an environmentally sound technology (EST) in which plants are used to remove, detoxify or immobilize environmental contaminants that are in the soil and in the water. Plants belonging to the Cruciferae family work the best. These particular plants are named and are a part of this family because they have a corolla of four petals arranged like a cross. Once again, God shows us that the process of restoring and remediating health, healing and safety to our environment (whether we start in our head, or in the garden of our relationships) is done through the work on the Cross (Colossians 1:16-20). So how does this personal and relational “clean up” process happen? In this workbook, you will have the opportunity to “remediate” or “heal your land” by identifying areas of your life or marriage that need growth and development, fruitfulness and edification. Based on your self-discovery, you'll have the opportunity to select from over 400 “Positive Values” or “seeds” to plant in the soil of your heart which when developed, will help you to become a fruitful, mature and productive human being. The cultivation of your values creates healing agents in your life and marriage when they are intentionally and strategically developed. Remediation occurs when you live by the values that you cultivate within your head and heart and practice these values with the “neighbors” in your life (i.e., spouse, family members, workplace).

Book excerpt: Cultivating Love When Secrets Surface is a book in the Cultivating Love book series, and is an in-depth exploration of how to deal with the discovery of unfaithfulness, with insight and practical exercises to help you make safe, informed and healthy choices regarding what direction you wish to take with your relationship. When Secrets Surface was written with a three-fold purpose in mind. First, to provide couples with help, insight and guidance after discovering that one partner in the marriage has been sexually unfaithful. Over the next few days, weeks and months after this discovery, one or both of you may have a myriad of questions that need to be asked and deserve to be answered. This workbook is written to provide you with practical and effective "tools" to guide you through this initial crisis and into topics you need to communicate about, in order to make clear and informed decisions about the direction you may wish to take with your relationship. This is the first purpose of this workbook. Second, it was written to provide couples with guidance and tools to work through this devastating experience to determine if their marriage is salvageable, and if so, to illuminate suggested but necessary steps to take to engage in a process to heal, rebuild and renew your marriage. Third, although When Secrets Surface is a "stand alone" resource to help you and your spouse, the materials are also created for you to work on and share with your Individual or Group Psychotherapist, or your Pastoral Counselor, or other important "teammates" who you deem are safe, knowledgeable and therapeutic, as matters of the heart, soul, mind and spirit deserve therapeutic and empathetic responses to facilitate your healing and growth. Cultivating Love When Secrets Surface and all of the books in the Cultivating Love series are great resources for individuals, couples, people who are challenged with compulsive and problematic behaviors and are a great counseling resource for Counselors, Pastors, Pastoral Counselors, Clinicians and College students. Other books in the Cultivating Love series are: 1. Enhancing Communication: Effective communication tools to facilitate dialogue, empowerment and conflict resolution. Finishing Strong is a book in the Cultivating Love book series, where the focus of this book is to address problematic or compulsive sexual behavior in the lives of men and women. 4. Growing Character: Identifying, exploring and cultivating values that help you to determine how you wish to live your life. Download or read book The State of Affairs written by Esther Perel and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2017-10-10 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A fresh look at infidelity, broadening the focus from the havoc it wreaks within a committed relationship to consider also why people do it, what it means to them, and why breaking up is the expected response to duplicity — but not necessarily the wisest one.” — LA Review of Books From iconic couples’ therapist and bestselling author of Mating in Captivity comes a provocative and controversial look at infidelity with practical, honest, and empathetic advice for how to move beyond it. An affair: it can rob a couple of their relationship, their happiness, their very identity. And yet, this extremely common human experience is so poorly understood. What are we to make of this time-honored taboo—universally forbidden yet universally practiced? Why do people cheat—even those in happy marriages? Why does an affair hurt so much? When we say infidelity, what exactly do we mean? Do our romantic expectations of marriage set us up for betrayal? Is there such a thing as an affair-proof marriage? Is it possible to love more than one person at once? Can an affair ever help a marriage? Perel weaves real-life case stories with incisive psychological and cultural analysis in this fast-paced and compelling book. For the past ten years, Perel has traveled the globe and worked with hundreds of couples who have grappled with infidelity. Betrayal hurts, she writes, but it can be healed. An affair can even be the doorway to a new marriage—with the same person. With the right approach, couples can grow and learn from these tumultuous experiences, together or apart. Affairs, she argues, have a lot to teach us about modern relationships—what we expect, what we think we want, and what we feel entitled to. They offer a unique window into our personal and cultural attitudes about love, lust, and commitment. Through examining illicit love from multiple angles, Perel invites readers into an honest, enlightened, and entertaining exploration of modern marriage in its many variations. Fiercely intelligent, The State of Affairs provides a daring framework for understanding the intricacies of love and desire. As Perel observes, “Love is messy; infidelity more so. But it is also a window, like no other, into the crevices of the human heart.”

Book excerpt: Christianity Today 2023 Book Award Finalist (Bible & Devotional) Sheltering Mercy helps us rediscover the rich treasures of the Psalms--through free-verse prayer renderings of their poems and hymns--as a guide to personal devotion and meditation. The church has always used the Psalms as part of its prayer life, and they have inspired countless other prayers. This book contains 75 prayers drawn from Psalms 1-75, providing lyrical sketches of what authors Ryan Whitaker Smith and Dan Wilt have seen, heard, and felt while sojourning in the Psalms. While each prayer corresponds to a particular psalm and touches on its themes and ideas, it is not a new translation of the Psalms or an attempt to modernize or contextualize their content or language. Rather, the prayers are responses to the Psalms written in harmony with Scripture. These prayers help us quiet our hearts before God and welcome us into a safe place amid the storms of life. This artful, poetic, and classic devotional book features compelling custom illustrations and beautiful hardcover binding, offering a fresh way to reflect on and pray the Psalms.

When Ryan survived, they both realized that they still had a future together. But the near loss changed the way they saw all that would lie ahead. They would live and love fiercely, fighting for each other and for a Christ-centered marriage, every step of the way. Fierce Marriage is their story, but more than that, it is a call for married couples to put God first in their relationship, to measure everything they do and say to each other against what Christ did for them, and to see marriage not just as a relationship they should try to keep healthy but also as one worth fighting for in every situation. With the gospel as their foundation, Ryan and Selena offer hope and practical help for common struggles in marriage, including communication problems, sexual frustration, financial stress, family tension, screen-time disconnection, and unrealistic expectations.

  • ISBN : 9780996520409
  • Pages : 124 pages

Download or read book The Gift of Self written by Maria Pia Campanella and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These pages were written by one hand and many hearts ... by separated spouses faithful to the sacrament because they are convinced this total gift of self is not an anachronism imposed by the Church to be accepted with patient resignation, but a path of sanctification lived out in the joyous paradox of the Gospel. This book, besides offering numerous points for reflection on the theme of separation, proposes a true and proper path subdivided into stages for groups of people who, living with the suffering of a spouse's separation, wish to remain faithful to the sacrament of their marriage. Among the many suggested prayers and meditations, one in particular, the renewal of the Yes, has captured the attention of many churches both at home and abroad. The "Marriage Vows Renewal," included in the last stage, is promulgated by the Pontifical Council of the Family. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops published a recommendation for the book on their Marriage Resource Center: "The greatest strength of Campanella's book is her articulation of the vocation of the separated person to live out his or her marriage vows as a particular witness of God's eternal love for fallen humanity, and the practical path she offers to the realization of this call. Although she does not include personal details of her own situation, it is apparent that Campanella has walked this path herself. This imbues a sense of hope and inspiration to the reader."

You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.
