De 1905 à 1923, il a réuni dans cinq gros volumes intitulés Cultes, mythes et religions, des études dont la plupart font toujours autorité. Nous en avons retenu les plus importantes : toutes ont été préfacées par Hervé Duchêne. Pierre Brunel, professeur à la Sorbonne et éminent spécialiste des mythes littéraires, dit dans son avant-propos tout ce que sa réflexion doit aux travaux irremplaçables, mais hélas introuvables, de Salomon Reinach, qui reparaissent ici pour la première fois après trois quarts de siècle d'ombre : une renaissance plus qu'attendue.
