Por desgracia, la mayoria de los pacientes oncológicos en situacion terminal son atendidos por equipos escasamente coordinados lo que implica repeticion de información, controversia de opiniones, desorientacion familiar, y en definitiva, incomodidad del enfermo. Dos hechos deben hacernos reflexionar sobre las consecuencias de la mala praxis del paciente teminal: uno que los pacientes terminales van a presentar síntomas somáticos que pueden ser expresión de problemas sociales o conflictos familiares lo que requerirá equipos multidisciplinarios, y otro es el coste económico que se deriva de la atención hospitalaria de pacientes que pueden permanecer en su domicilio con un adecuado apoyo sanitario y social. Conscientes de este problema, hemos impartido un curso dedicado a la atención íntegral de pacientes oncológicos terminales fruto de la extraordinaria coordinación de la asistencia sanitaria, los recursos sociales y la dedicación a las familias de nuestros pacientes. Este intenso trabajo tiene su traducción en este libro, que recoge las ponencias de diversos miembros de distintos equipos dedicados al cuidados de pacientes oncológicos.
