Book The elementary structuring of patriarchy

Download or read book The elementary structuring of patriarchy written by Menara Guizardi and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2024-05-28 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on an ethnographic study on the Andean Tri-border (between Chile, Peru, and Bolivia), this volume addresses the experience of Aymara cross-border women from Bolivia employed in the rural valleys on the outskirts of Arica (Chile’s northernmost city). As protagonists of transborder mobility circuits, these women are intersectionally impacted by different forms of social vulnerability. With a feminist anthropological perspective, the book investigates how the boundaries of gender are constructed in the (multi)situated experience of these transborder women. By building a bridge between classical anthropological studies on kinship and contemporary debates on transnational and transborder mobility, the book invites us to rethink structuralist theoretical assertions on the elementary character of family alliances.

Book Images of Women in Hispanic Culture

Download or read book Images of Women in Hispanic Culture written by Teresa Fernandez Ulloa and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2016-08-17 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies the ways traditional polarized images of women have been used and challenged in the Hispanic world, especially during the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century by writers and the media, but also in earlier time periods. The chapters analyze the image of women in specific political periods such as Francoism or the Kirchners’ administration, stereotypes of women in films in Mexico and Chile, and the representation of women in textbooks, among other topics. Contributions also show how two women writers, in the 17th and the 19th centuries, viewed the role of women in their society.

Book From Ashes to Text

Download or read book From Ashes to Text written by Diego Falconí Trávez and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-08-31 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to some chronicles of the Spanish Conquest, the violent arrival of the Conquerors to the Andes in the sixteenth century led to sex-dissident people who lived outside the dominant European cisheteropatriarchal model being burned at the stake. This act burned more than the flesh; it also charred practices, ways of life, and textualities, leaving an emptiness and a trauma that would mark the future literatures of the Andean region. This book cannot repair those pre-sodomite texts and bodies. It seeks instead to reconsider the value of the ash, a metaphor that allows for a critical and contradictory reading of sexual dissidences in the Andean region in the twentieth century, beyond both multiculturalism and the wake of a globalized LGBTI movement. Through a comparative analysis, and drawing on theoretical perspectives such as anticoloniality, feminisms, and cuir (rather than queer) theories, the book aims to understand the value of a series of complex texts in which dissident subjectivities, practices, and desires help to broaden the understanding of the Andean. Winner of the prestigious Casa de las Américas prize, the book was praised by the jury for the paradoxical and provocative way that it struggles against the abyss of past destruction and reflects on the contribution of the Global South to the often uniformist thinking around the body and its intersections.

Book Mision en el camino

    Book Details:
  • Author : Charles E. Van Engen
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2019-02-28
  • ISBN : 1532658435
  • Pages : 380 pages

Download or read book Mision en el camino written by Charles E. Van Engen and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-02-28 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
