Book Theory and Practice of Model Transformations

Download or read book Theory and Practice of Model Transformations written by Laurence Tratt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-06-17 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Model transformations are the glue that tie modelling activities together. If you’ve used modelling in anger then, whether you know it or not, you’ve used model transformations. They come in all shapes and sizes from moving models between di?erent tools to generating implementations. Model transformations have humble beginnings—at one point, not long ago, it was said by many ‘in the know’ that the way forward in model transformations was to use XSLT. That this idea now raises a wry smile shows how far the model transformation community has come in a short time. Where once model transformations were hacked together in a variety of unsuitable languages, we now have a number of powerful, dedicated languages and theories at our disposal. Since 2008, the ICMT conference series has played a huge part in advancing the subject, and this third edition was no di?erent. The theories and languages presented at ICMT have allowed principled model transformations to play an ever greater part in real systems. Of course there is still much more to do: we need our model transformations, languages, and theories to scale further, allow greater expressivity, be more ?exible, and aid reusability; and we lack empirically backed studies of model transformations in use. Doubtless you can think of other gaps. Yet, though some real-world challenges lie just beyond our reach,eachyearseesonce-dauntingproblemsconquered.Muchofthatprogressis nowdriven byICMT, andthis year’sedition showedhow model transformations are increasingly being used in previously unfamiliar areas.

Book Artifact Driven Business Process Monitoring

Download or read book Artifact Driven Business Process Monitoring written by Giovanni Meroni and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-23 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book proposes a novel technique, named artifact-driven process monitoring, by which multi-party processes, involving non-automated activities, can be continuously and autonomously monitored. This technique exploits the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm to make the physical objects, participating in a process, smart. Being equipped with sensors, a computing device, and a communication interface, such smart objects can then become self-aware of their own conditions and of the process they participate in, and exchange this information with the other smart objects and the involved organizations. To allow organizations to reuse preexisting process models, a method to instruct smart objects given Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) collaboration diagrams is also presented. The work constitutes a revised version of the PhD dissertation written by the author at the PhD School of Information Engineering of Politecnico di Milano, Italy. In 2019, the PhD dissertation won the “CAiSE PhD award”, granted to outstanding PhD theses in the field of Information Systems Engineering.

Book Universal Traceability A Comprehensive Generic Technology Independent and Semantically Rich Approach

Download or read book Universal Traceability A Comprehensive Generic Technology Independent and Semantically Rich Approach written by Hannes Schwarz and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2012 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traceability describes the ability of stakeholders to understand and follow relationships between artifacts that play some role in software development. It is essential for many development tasks, e.g., quality assurance, requirements management, or software maintenance. Aiming to overcome various deficiencies of existing traceability concepts, this book presents a universal approach describing required features of traceability solutions. This includes a technology-independent, generic template for the definition of semantically rich traceability relationship types and technology-independent patterns for the retrieval of traceability information, reflecting generic problems common to traceability applications. The universal approach is implemented on the basis of two concrete technologies which facilitate comprehensive traceability: the TGraph approach and OWL ontologies. The applicability of the approach is shown by three case studies dealing with the reuse of software artifacts, process model refinement, and requirements management, respectively.

Book Live Trace Visualization for System and Program Comprehension in Large Software Landscapes

Download or read book Live Trace Visualization for System and Program Comprehension in Large Software Landscapes written by Florian Fittkau and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2015-12-03 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many enterprises, the number of deployed applications is constantly increasing. Those applications - often several hundreds - form large software landscapes. The comprehension of such landscapes is frequently impeded due to, for instance, architectural erosion, personnel turnover, or changing requirements. Furthermore, events such as performance anomalies can often only be understood in correlation with the states of the applications. Therefore, an efficient and effective way to comprehend such software landscapes in combination with the details of each application is required. In this thesis, we introduce a live trace visualization approach to support system and program comprehension in large software landscapes. It features two perspectives: a landscape-level perspective using UML elements and an application-level perspective following the 3D software city metaphor. Our main contributions are 1) an approach named ExplorViz for enabling live trace visualization of large software landscapes, 2) a monitoring and analysis approach capable of logging and processing the huge amount of conducted method calls in large software landscapes, and 3) display and interaction concepts for the software city metaphor beyond classical 2D displays and 2D pointing devices. Extensive lab experiments show that our monitoring and analysis approach elastically scales to large software landscapes while imposing only a low overhead on the productive systems. Furthermore, several controlled experiments demonstrate an increased efficiency and effectiveness for solving comprehension tasks when using our visualization. ExplorViz is available as open-source software on www.explorviz.net. Additionally, we provide extensive experimental packages of our evaluations to facilitate the verifiability and reproducibility of our results.
