The Central Isles are certainly no exception to this; their small residing populations of angels, demons and humans are forever locked in petty skirmishes and short-term wars. When a new, unknown threat emerges and threatens to destabilise the tiny continent, can the opposing races set aside their differences in order to save themselves? Following the expedition to investigate the magical disturbance in the west, Ferdan Is left with a daunting challenge: How does he convince the three racial leaders that something is amiss while avoiding the problem of them implicating one another? Such a task is difficult to undertake without more information, so he undertakes an expedition to the west to find out more. Meanwhile, Sebastian the Demon King, Uriel the Angel Monarch and Thardosean the Human King mull over the messages they received, each contemplating their next move with care. Book Envisioning a Sustainable Society

Download or read book Envisioning a Sustainable Society written by Lester W. Milbrath and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1989-01-01 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evidence is increasingly persuasive. We are changing the way our planet's physical systems work--irrevocably. These changes are global and interconnected and unavoidable. They are upon us already, making it virtually impossible for any modern society to continue its present trajectory of growth. This book provides a penetrating analysis of how we have come to this point, of why science and technology will fail to solve these problems, and of how we as a society must change in order to avoid ecological catastrophe. The scope is broad, the urgency of the message is impossible to ignore.

Book Tensors for Physics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Siegfried Hess
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2015-04-25
  • ISBN : 331912787X
  • Pages : 449 pages

Download or read book Tensors for Physics written by Siegfried Hess and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-25 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the science of tensors in a didactic way. The various types and ranks of tensors and the physical basis is presented. Cartesian Tensors are needed for the description of directional phenomena in many branches of physics and for the characterization the anisotropy of material properties. The first sections of the book provide an introduction to the vector and tensor algebra and analysis, with applications to physics, at undergraduate level. Second rank tensors, in particular their symmetries, are discussed in detail. Differentiation and integration of fields, including generalizations of the Stokes law and the Gauss theorem, are treated. The physics relevant for the applications in mechanics, quantum mechanics, electrodynamics and hydrodynamics is presented. The second part of the book is devoted to tensors of any rank, at graduate level. Special topics are irreducible, i.e. symmetric traceless tensors, isotropic tensors, multipole potential tensors, spin tensors, integration and spin-trace formulas, coupling of irreducible tensors, rotation of tensors. Constitutive laws for optical, elastic and viscous properties of anisotropic media are dealt with. The anisotropic media include crystals, liquid crystals and isotropic fluids, rendered anisotropic by external orienting fields. The dynamics of tensors deals with phenomena of current research. In the last section, the 3D Maxwell equations are reformulated in their 4D version, in accord with special relativity.

Book Chaotic Dynamics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Gregory L. Baker
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 1996
  • ISBN : 9780521471060
  • Pages : 282 pages

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The previous edition of this text was the first to provide a quantitative introduction to chaos and nonlinear dynamics at the undergraduate level. It was widely praised for the clarity of writing and for the unique and effective way in which the authors presented the basic ideas. These same qualities characterize this revised and expanded second edition. Interest in chaotic dynamics has grown explosively in recent years. Applications to practically every scientific field have had a far-reaching impact. As in the first edition, the authors present all the main features of chaotic dynamics using the damped, driven pendulum as the primary model. This second edition includes additional material on the analysis and characterization of chaotic data, and applications of chaos. This new edition of Chaotic Dynamics can be used as a text for courses on chaos for physics and engineering students at the second- and third-year level.
