Book Valency and Molecular Structure

Download or read book Valency and Molecular Structure written by E. Cartmell and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Valency and Molecular Structure, Fourth Edition provides a comprehensive historical background and experimental foundations of theories and methods relating to valency and molecular structures. In this edition, the chapter on Bohr theory has been removed while some sections, such as structures of crystalline solids, have been expanded. Details of structures have also been revised and extended using the best available values for bond lengths and bond angles. Recent developments are mostly noted in the chapter on complex compounds, while a new chapter has been added to serve as an introduction to the spectroscopy of complex compounds. Other topics include the experimental foundation of the quantum theory; molecular-orbital method; ionic, hydrogen, and metallic bonds; structures of some simple inorganic compounds; and electronic spectra of transition-metal complexes. This publication is a useful reference for undergraduate students majoring in chemistry and other affiliated science subjects.

Download or read book Boron Hydrides written by William N. Lipscomb and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this classic monograph, Nobel Prize–winning chemist William N. Lipscomb elucidates his area of expertise: the general structural principles and reactions of boron hydrides and related compounds. Lipscomb's work appeared only a decade after the structures of boron hydrides were first elucidated and their chemistry formulated into a widely applicable framework. His observations led to a major reconsideration of how atoms bond to form stable molecules. A concise treatment of the many separate parts of the structural theory and its relation to chemistry, this volume begins with an overview of boron hydrides and related structures, progressing to three-center bonds and their applications, molecular orbitals, nuclear magnetic resonance studies of boron hydrides and related compounds, and reactions of the boron hydrides. More than 120 diagrams and figures illustrate a variety of structures.

Book Crystal and Molecular Structure

Download or read book Crystal and Molecular Structure written by William N. Lipscomb and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of the early chemical and structural studies of boranes is referred to briefly with emphasis on the geometrical differences between compounds of carbon, and the more compact compounds of boron. The second part discusses the nature of three-center bonds, and their use in explaining the bonding in some of the more open types of boron compounds. In the third part molecular orbitals are described, with special reference to their transferability among geometrically related systems. The use of molecular orbital methods for prediction is exemplified. Finally the value of all of these methods is tested for predictions of chemical reactivity and molecular transformations with emphasis on boranes and carboranes.

Book Modern Perspectives in Inorganic Crystal Chemistry

Download or read book Modern Perspectives in Inorganic Crystal Chemistry written by Erwin Parthé and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of crystal structures has had an ever increasing impact on many fields of science such as physics, chemistry, biology, materials science, medicine, pharmacy, metallurgy, mineralogy and geology. Particularly, with the advent of direct methods of structure determination, the data on crystal structures are accumulating at an unbelievable pace and it becomes more and more difficult to oversee this wealth of data. A crude rationalization of the structures of organic compounds and the atom coordinations can be made with the well-known Kekule model, however, no such generally applicable model exists for the structures of inorganiC and particularly intermetallic compounds. There is a need to rationalize the inorganic crystal structures, to find better ways of describing them, of denoting the geometrical relationships between them, of elucidating the electronic factors and of explaining the bonding between the atoms with the aim of not only having a better understanding of the known structures, but also of predicting structural features of new compounds.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boron-based compounds have been utilized as ligands within transition metal complexes for many decades. The diversity of such compounds in terms of varying functional groups is truly exceptional. Boron compounds are of high interest due to the great potential to modify the substituents around the boron center and to produce a broad range of structural motifs. The many different ways these compounds can coordinate or interact with transition metal centers is astonishing. Examples of transition metal complexes containing boron-based ligands include scorpionates, cluster-type borane- and carboranes, borates, and phosphine-stabilized borylene ligands. This Special Issue brings together a collection of articles focusing on recent developments in the aforementioned boron-based ligands. The articles reported in this book will provide the reader with an overview of the types of boron-based ligands which are currently being researched in groups around the world.
