Book excerpt: I started writing this book during the worst mental breakdown I have ever had. I picked up a pen, and a notebook, and it all just came pouring out over the next twelve months. This is about depression, anxiety, emptiness, love, and repressed memories. I wrote this book when I was struggling with imposter syndrome, and suicidal ideation. Since I started writing this, I've been to therapy, and learned to open up more to friends, and loved ones about these thoughts, and feelings. In doing so, I've learned it's more common than you might think, or would ever want to believe. I'm writing this, because it gets better, and sometimes the best catalyst for change, is realizing your shortcomings, and the times you've been toxic. This is ultimately a book about hope, and maybe it will help you, the same way writing it has helped me.

Book Crying in the Bathroom

Download or read book Crying in the Bathroom written by Erika L. Sánchez and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2022-07-12 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Equal parts pee-your-pants hilarity and break your heart poignancy- like the perfect brunch date you never want to end!"--America Ferrera, Emmy award-winning actress in Ugly Betty From the New York Times bestselling author of I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, an utterly original memoir-in-essays that is as deeply moving as it is disarmingly funny Growing up as the daughter of Mexican immigrants in Chicago in the ‘90s, Erika L. Sánchez was a self-described pariah, misfit, and disappointment—a foul-mouthed, melancholic rabble-rouser who painted her nails black but also loved comedy and dreamed of an unlikely life as a poet. Twenty-five years later, she’s now an award-winning novelist, poet, and essayist, but she’s still got an irrepressible laugh, an acerbic wit, and singular powers of perception about the world around her. In these essays about everything from sex to white feminism to debilitating depression to the redemptive pursuits of spirituality, art, and travel, Sánchez reveals an interior life that is rich with ideas, self-awareness, and perception—that of a woman who charted a path entirely of her own making. Raunchy, insightful, unapologetic, and brutally honest, Crying in the Bathroom is Sánchez at her best: a book that will make you feel that post-confessional high that comes from talking for hours with your best friend.

He’s sin, and she’s innocence. “Have a little faith and anything’s possible.” SKY At five-years-old, I entered the convent, and at eighteen-years old, I left, realizing the sisterhood was not for me. With a place to stay, a best friend, and a good job, I believed it was only a matter of time before I met my future husband. To marry and have his babies. Unfortunately, my first boyfriend turned out to be abusive, and when I had the chance, I ran. Then I met my beautiful hero, Cade, except he’s dripping in sin. He scoffs at my beliefs. Even so, I can’t deny Cade’s goodness or my attraction to him. If I stick to my faith, I can win against temptation, right? Or does God have a bigger plan that includes Cade? CADE I lost my adoptive parents, mom to cancer, and dad to alcohol. My company Briggs Bourbon is prospering along with my motorcycle club, Bourbon Riders. There’s nothing better than a bourbon in hand and a woman on her knees… until Sky enters my life. Clad in bruises, blood, and ripped clothing, I offer her a place to stay because it’s the right thing to do. Bible verses pour from Sky’s lips, and she gets under my skin as much as she warms my heart. This angel provokes a wickedness I’ve never felt before. She’s sweet and pure, and I promise to protect her. When I offered to help Sky, it didn’t include becoming a husband. We’re opposites, and my ability to love died long ago… Or did it? Book Hey Mom

Download or read book Hey Mom written by Louie Anderson and published by Atria Books. This book was released on 2020-04-28 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With wry wit and touching humor, Louie Anderson, New York Times bestselling author and Emmy Award–winning comedian currently starring in Zach Galifianakis’s Baskets, shares his journey of turning life’s challenges into joy, as well as plenty of wisdom he’s still discovering from his late mother. “I started out writing these letters to my mom, but a few friends said I should write a book. I said ‘okay’ because next to ‘we’ll see,’ ‘okay’ is as non-committal as you can get. But somehow, I stuck with it. I hope you like it. I hope that after you read it, you’ll write or call your own mom—and dad, sister, brother, cousin, nephew. Or have lunch with them. Or breakfast. It doesn’t have to be lunch. But do it now. Don’t wait like I did.” —Louie Louie Anderson has channeled his beloved mom, Ora Zella Anderson, in his stand-up routine for decades, but she died before seeing him reach his greatest heights, culminating in his breakout TV role as Christine Baskets, the mesmerizing character she inspired. Hey Mom is Louie’s way of catching her up on the triumphs, disappointments, and continuing challenges in life. Full of heartache, but also great hope, and of course—given Louie’s inimitable comedic voice—laugh-out-loud stories and his trademark observations on life’s many absurdities, Hey Mom shows a poignant side of Louie you may not know, and proves that he is one of the most nuanced and wide-ranging comics working today.
