Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After years of living behind walls to hide her guilt and shame, author Mary Lehman describes her journey from shame-based religion to a grace-based relationship with the Three In One. For God to get her attention, it took the death of her husband and the separation from someone with whom she had developed an unhealthy codependent friendship. Because, in the past, Mary had fallen into an inappropriate relationship, she recognized the slippery slope she was on. Amid the months of grief and desperation, she made the decision to never go down that road again. Seeking God, she came to realize He had put her on a path where she could receive His deliverance from codependency and relational idolatry. Since then, Mary has overcome the spiritual abuse, internalized shame, and habits of risk-taking that kept her in bondage for decades; she has renewed her mind with the gospel of grace. As her new identity, she has put on Christ. Now, applying the story of David and Goliath, Mary shares her journey in detail and describes her newfound peace and freedom. This is the narrative of a woman who has found transformation within her faith, escaping the mental and emotional traps that had kept her from healing and joy.

Download or read book Goliath written by Steve Alten and published by Forge Books. This book was released on 2003-07-13 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Terrorism. Acts of Oppression. The threat of nuclear war. What if one madman aboard a vessel could end these fears forever? Commander Rochelle "Rocky" Jackson is aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan when the "unsinkable" naval vessel and its entire fleet are attacked from the depths and sunk. As Rocky struggles to stay alive, a monstrous mechanical steel stingray surfaces, plowing the seas it now commands. The Goliath: A nuclear submarine Rocky helped design almost a decade ago, a top secret DoD project canceled when the schematics were destroyed by her former fiancé and U.S. Army Ranger, Gunnar Wolfe. Powered by its five jet-pump propulsors and hydrodynamically shaped to be virtually undetectable under water, the sub has one more feature that separates it from all other vessels on the open seas: SORCERESS -its biochemical computer brain. Washington D.C.: Rocky learns that the Goliath's plans were not destroyed but secretly sold to the Chinese. Having constructed the $8 billion dollar warship, the Chinese become victims themselves when the sub is hijacked by the project director, Simon Bela Covah, a computer genius who once served under Rocky's command at the Navy's Undersea Warfare Center. The attack on the carrier fleet indicates that Covah is hunting down warships in an attempt to arm himself with nuclear weapons. The president appoints Rocky's father, General Michael "Bear" Jackson, to locate and destroy the Goliath. Against Rocky's wishes, Bear decides they will need Gunnar Wolfe's help. Gunnar, who has served five years in Leavenworth for espionage, is not exactly thrilled to be rejoining the people who ruined his life. Aboard the Goliath: Simon Covah and his crew share a common bond: They are all victims of violence and oppression. Covah, a Russian, witnessed his Chechan wife and daughters brutally murdered at the hands of his own people as he was tortured. Now the computer genius has one mission: to rid the world of oppressive governments while forcing humanity to disarm. To accomplish this, he plans on giving the world a real lesson in Armageddon. Armed with enough nuclear weapons to destroy North America, Covah issues his Declaration of Humanity to the world. If his demands are not met, consequences will be paid. f0 Could the threat of violence forge a lasting peace? But there is another player in this life-and-death chess match. Unbeknownst to the Goliath crew, SORCERESS has become self-aware. And the computer is developing its own agenda... Download or read book Beating Goliath written by Jeffrey Record and published by Potomac Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beating Goliath examines the phenomenon of victories by the weak over the strong--more specifically, insurgencies that succeeded against great powers. Jeffrey Record reviews eleven insurgent wars from 1775 to the present and determines why the seemingly weaker side won. He concludes that external assistance correlates more consistently with insurgent success than any other explanation. He does not disparage the critical importance of will, strategy, and strong-side regime type or suggest that external assistance guarantees success. Indeed, in all cases, some combination of these factors is usually present. But Record finds few if any cases of unassisted insurgent victories except against the most decrepit regimes. Having identified the ingredients of insurgent success, Record examines the present insurgency in Iraq and whether the United States can win. In so doing, Record employs a comparative analysis of the Vietnam War and the Iraq War. He also identifies and assesses the influence of distinctive features of the American way of war on the U.S. forces' performance against the Iraqi insurgency. Make no mistake: insurgent victories are the exception, not the rule. But when David does beat Goliath, the consequences can be earth shattering and change the course of history. Jeffrey Record's persuasive logic and clear writing make this timely book a must read for scholars, policymakers, military strategists, and anyone interested in the Iraq War's outcome.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Uglier than Hugo's Hunchback; more terrifying then Shelly's Frankenstein and yet more affable then Steinbeck's Lenny Small is Goliath: the Giant of Palestine. Not the renowned Old Testament villain but a child unwittingly manipulated into the rogue Goliath. While stopping short of suggesting another slinger on a grassy knoll is an intriguing skeptical dissecting of I Samuel's telling of history's most famous one-on-one battle. How and why the ancestors of present day Palestinians and Israelis came to struggle for the same land sheds new light on the argument of "Just whose land is it anyway?" Goliath, a seven-year-old boy trapped in the body of a fierce giant, endures many fantastic adventures at the hands of history's greatest mariners, the Phoenician and ushered throughout the Mediterranean as pirate and circus attraction. The storyline returns to his homeland where his people continually clash with the Tribes of Israel. Initial terrorism, conspiracy, assassination and all-out war of this first Middle East conflict are accurately depicted and fueled by current headlines. Presented also is a tender love story of the granddaughter of the eminent biblical Ruth and a displaced Philistine. After all the necessary covenants are fulfilled a marriage takes place. Ten years of research based on historical evidence, biblical events and well-worn theories depicts the cultural, religious and technological differences of the two peoples.

Download or read book 40 Questions About Typology and Allegory written by Mitchell L. Chase and published by Kregel Publications. This book was released on 2020-09-29 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A survey of two literary devices that are indispensable for understanding salvation history A biblical type is a person, place, or thing in salvation history that corresponds to a later person, place, or thing in the scriptural text. An allegory is a passage that says one thing in order to say something else. Both are common literary devices in the Bible that are vital for understanding truths about Jesus Christ found nowhere else. In 40 Questions About Typology and Allegory, Mitchell Chase provides a thorough introduction to both devices, showing where they appear throughout Scripture and the historical roles they have played in biblical interpretation. In a convenient question-and-answer format, Chase answers key questions such as: • Why should interpreters care about typology and allegory? • How do we identify types? • What are the theological assumptions of typology? • Do all types lead to Christ? • What is allegorical interpretation? • How was allegory practiced in the early church? • How should we practice allegorical interpretation? Situating typology and allegory within salvation history, Chase shows how these devices reveal the interconnectedness of Scripture and commonly overlooked aspects of Christ's person and work. Scholars, Bible teachers, and preachers will find this an essential resource for interpreting Scripture more comprehensively.

Download or read book The Fall of Lucifer written by Carole Cummings and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-06-10 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before the earth existed, Lucifer was created by God as a perfect and beautiful cherub. His four faces represent the image of the man, the lion, the eagle, and the ox. His two sets of wings and outer garment or covering of brightly shimmering gems and even gold was glorious. With these magnificent attributes and perfection, God the Father elevated Lucifer to a position of power. After becoming prideful and obsessed with himself, Lucifer sinned and attacked heaven with his army of angels. Jesus described the scene, saying, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven” (Luke 10:18). Satan took his angels and cherubim with him (Revelation 12:4). How could sin change this favored cherub into what is described as an evil dragon or serpent? His sin, as in all sins, separated him from God! Without God, doing what is right is impossible. Satan’s idea of “right” no longer coincided with God’s point of view. For example, Satan was now able to lie. God will never lie (Numbers 23:19). There is much written about Satan, his fallen angels, the fallen angels’ offspring, and the demonic forces he controls. With scripture as our anchor, we will explore Apocryphal books, legends across the globe, and archeological records to confirm what the Bible says about Satan. Even the unspoken record found in the names of stars. The zodiac and decan constellations, have much to reveal about this enemy of God and man. Find out what Satan does not want you to know!

Download or read book The Serpent in Samuel written by Brian A. Verrett and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-02-17 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, Brian A. Verrett argues that 1–2 Samuel contains a serpent motif by practicing biblical theology and literary criticism. This motif derives from the serpent in Genesis 3, and its function within the Samuel narrative is to heighten the reader’s anticipation in the coming messiah, who is the son of David and the seed of the woman from Genesis 3:15. This messiah will defeat the serpent and inaugurate his glorious reign over a renewed world. When 1–2 Samuel is read in this way, one appreciates previously unnoticed features of the text, understands aspects of the text that were formerly confusing, and rightly sees that the whole of 1–2 Samuel is a messianic document.
