Book excerpt: The R/V ATLANTIS II Cruise 93 Leg 7 left Port Louis, Mauritius, 8 April 1976 on a 29 day geophysical and geological survey in the Mascarene and Somali Basins in the Western Indian Ocean. Seventeen piston cores were successfully recovered in the Mascarene Basin, Amirante Trench and Somali Basin regions. Single channel continuous seismic profiles were made on 2920 km ship's track in the Somali Basin. Echo soundings, total geomagnetic field and gravity field data were collected throughout the entire leg. The R/V ATLANTIS II arrived in Mombasa, Kenya, on 6 May 1976. Summary charts of the underway data collected during this cruise are provided.

Download or read book Cruise Data Report R V Atlantis II 93 Legs 5 and 6 written by Hartley Hoskins and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The central Indian triple-junction was surveyed with eleven thousand kilometers of bathymetric, magnetic field, and gravity profiles. Seven thousand kilometers of seismic reflection profiles were made using primarily a 40 cu. in. air gun. Sixteen dredges, three gravity cores and one hydrocast were made. Positions of the ship were determined primarily by satellite navigation. The underway data are plotted on a series of Mercator charts and as a composite profile plot. Compilation sheets of the bathymetry, magnetic anomaly and free air gravity for the survey area are presented.

Book excerpt: On May 7, 1970 the R/V ATLANTIS II left Woods Hole on a single-leg cruise for the Institution's Buoy Project, to return on May 21. In addition to servicing the moorings of the Project's continuing moored-arrayed program, other tasks included tests of prototype AMF gear, emplacement of biological samples, hydrographic and CCTD work, and Niskin sampling. Search for portions of moorings earlier reported off station was unsuccessful.

Book excerpt: A cruise was carried out aboard R/V ATLANTIS II from October 21 to November 8, 1971 leaving from and returning to Woods Hole, MA. Work was carried out primarily along the 70th W. meridian to a latitude of 28 degrees N. Five current meter moorings were recovered and ten set. Two acoustic transponder moorings, associated with six acoustic dropsonde profiles were set and recovered. Twenty-six CTD stations and ten hydrographic stations were taken. A mooring which had previously failed due to submersion and crushing of its surface float was recovered through dragging. (Author).

Book excerpt: A cruise aboard R/V ATLANTIS II was carried out from 22 August to 5 September, 1972, leaving from and returning to Woods Hole, MA. Work was carried out in the vicinity of Site D (39 deg 10 min N, 70 deg 00 min W). Five current- meter moorings were set and five recovered. One engineering mooring was aborted during an attempted deployment by faking box. Nineteen CTD's and twenty-three hydrographic stations were made. Two of the current-meter moorings were set 400 meters apart in a comparison of U.S. and U.S.S.R. current meters for SCOR working Group 21. The cruise was broken by a stop in Woods Hole to take aboard additional anchors and by an overnight stay at Menemsha Bight, Martha's Vineyard to escape from bad weather.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In March and April of 1981 a major cruise was undertaken on the R/V Atlantis II off the Peruvian coast near 15°S in order to investigate the sea-air exchange of selected heavy metals and natural and anthropogenic organic compounds. The purpose of this report is to collate the hydrographic, nutrient, and plankton data generated from various investigators on this cruise end to provide a standard of reference for the cruise participants. Data for temperature, salinity, oxygen, nitrate, nitrite, axnmonium, phosphate, silicate, chlorophyll a, particulate organic carbon, and particulate organic nitrogen are given. In addition, air and sea temperatures, and wind speed and direction data, collected using the SAIL system, are included.
