Book excerpt: Crowning the Year offers a practical guide to celebrating the key moments of the liturgical year in rural multi-church contexts. It considers the nature and distinctiveness of the rural church, the patterns of its worship and its ministry, reflecting on the importance of place, local community, the church building and the occasions which rural communities celebrate. In doing so, it offers an attractive and welcome ecclesiology and theology of the rural church. Crowning the Year will equip all who lead or assist with worship in rural contexts, lay and ordained. It offers essential groundwork on liturgical theology, and a theology of ministry in rural, multi-parochial contexts. It then provides practical ideas and direction on how to prepare for and conduct worship for the principal feasts and seasons of the Christian year, with a special emphasis on Christmas, Holy Week and Easter and the occasions such as Harvest, Plough Sunday and Rogation that are especially significant in rural communities.

Book The Crown of the Year

  • Author : Jane Mossendew
  • Publisher : A&C Black
  • Release : 2005-05-15
  • ISBN : 9780860123859
  • Pages : 258 pages

Download or read book The Crown of the Year written by Jane Mossendew and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2005-05-15 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been a long association between the discipline and joy of gardening and that of prayer and modern spiritual life. But hitherto these have not been explored in any depth. Flowers, trees, herbs and shrubs are shown to be intrinsically linked to our spirituality. In good times and in troubled times, the garden, whatever its size, even a window-box collection of one's own favourite herbs, can evoke calm and provide an oasis for contemplation and healing. This third book falls neatly into three sections - From Easter to Pentecost, Ordinary Time (including Trinity Sunday, Corpus Christi, the Immaculate Heart of Mary) and Solemnities and Saints' Days - from St Catherine of Sienna to St Augustine of Hippo. Jane Mossendew's books are entirely original. Some aspects of her work can be found in other books but here she unites a profound knowledge of gardening and nature's cycle with the rhythm and variations of the ecclesiastical and spiritual year. The author has a special knowledge of particular plants and their associations with religious festivals and the saints. It is small surprise therefore that sales of Jane Mossendew's books are increasing and that there is a television series in prospect.

Book A Strategic Assessment of Crown Fire Hazard in Montana

Download or read book A Strategic Assessment of Crown Fire Hazard in Montana written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Estimates of crown fire hazard are presented for existing forest conditions in Montana by density class, structural class, forest type, and landownership. Three hazard reduction treatments were evaluated for their effectiveness in treating historically fire-adapted forests (ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa Dougl. ex Laws.), Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco), dry mixed conifer) that rate high/moderate for fire hazard. Comprehensive restoration treatments that address density, structure, and species composition of high-hazard forests are significantly more effective at reducing hazard than thin-from below approaches that remove smaller trees only. Trees removed as a byproduct of the restoration treatment yielded net revenues averaging over $600 per acre, whereas the thin-from-below approach would require an out-of-pocket expenditure of over $600 per acre. Posttreatment conditions were projected forward 30 years and reevaluated for hazard. Projections revealed that effectiveness of all treatments diminished over time; however, forests receiving the comprehensive restoration treatment remained substantially lower hazard 30 years after treatment than they would have had they received the alternative treatments.

Book When the Dragon Wore the Crown

Download or read book When the Dragon Wore the Crown written by Cerow, Don and published by Nicolas-Hays, Inc.. This book was released on 2013-05-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When our ancestors gazed upon the skies thousands of years ago they looked up into the center of Creation and saw a mighty Dragon, a great celestial serpent with wings circling ceaselessly above them, night after night, century after century. When the Dragon Wore the Crown is a ground breaking book that covers a period of over six thousand years, focusing on what astrologers would call the Ages of Gemini, Taurus and Aries and taking us through the period of classical astronomy with the Greeks and Romans (approx. 7000 BC-200 AD). When the Dragon Wore the Crown opens and closes with the Chinese mythological tradition and touches on Sumerian, Babylonian, Phoenician, Hindu, Norse, Native American and even Mayan myths, weaving together many of their celestial serpentine similarities. It focuses primarily on the role of the constellation Draco, the astronomical marker of the North Celestial Pole for literally thousands of years. The importance of this simple astronomical observation helped facilitate the study of the calendar, navigation, farming and social organization. The circuit of the seasons was marked by this cadence with the moving center guarding the position of the zodiacal circle for literally thousands of years. The secret of the circle was hidden in its center. The one had to be determined before the other. If the true center was not accurately observed and determined, the entire circle was off. This is a beautiful and informative book of discovery, following the mythology of various cultures as it evolved into modern astronomy.

Book excerpt: The Crown Has Fallen explores this history of the kings of Judah. By virtue of the circumstances of their birth, these men were given the title of the kings of Judah. These Jewish monarchs held the future of the Davidic dynasty in their hands. The welfare of the nation depended upon their fidelity to God. However, their successes were greatly outnumbered by their failures. So great were their sins that God literally had to uproot them out of the Promised Land. These descendants of David were temporarily given a throne that would one day be permanently given to the king of kings. Their character was eventually revealed through the challenges they faced. Their examples are both encouraging and disappointing. It’s true—you can learn a lot from a king.
