Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Expanding Underground Knowledge and Passion to Make a Positive Impact on the World written by Georgios Anagnostou and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-04-12 with total page 3529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Expanding Underground - Knowledge and Passion to Make a Positive Impact on the World contains the contributions presented at the ITA-AITES World Tunnel Congress 2023 (Athens, Greece, 12 – 18 May, 2023). Tunnels and underground space are a predominant engineering practice that can provide sustainable, cost-efficient and environmentally friendly solutions to the ever-growing needs of modern societies. This underground expansion in more diverse and challenging infrastructure types or to novel underground uses can foster the changes needed. At the same time, the tunneling and underground space community needs to be better prepared and equipped with knowledge, tools and experience, to deal with the prevailing conditions, to successfully challenge and overcome adversities on this path. The papers in this book aim at contributing to the analysis of challenging conditions, the presentation and dissemination good practices, the introduction of new concepts, new tools and innovative elements that can help engineers and all stakeholders to reach their end goals. Expanding Underground - Knowledge and Passion to Make a Positive Impact on the World covers a wide range of aspects and topics related to the whole chain of the construction and operation of underground structures: Knowledge and Passion to Expand Underground for Sustainability and Resilience Geological, Geotechnical Site Investigation and Ground Characterization Planning and Designing of Tunnels and Underground Structures Mechanised Tunnelling and Microtunnelling Conventional Tunnelling, Drill-and-Blast Applications Tunnelling in Challenging Conditions - Case Histories and Lessons Learned Innovation, Robotics and Automation BIM, Big Data and Machine Learning Applications in Tunnelling Safety, Risk and Operation of Underground Infrastructure, and Contractual Practices, Insurance and Project Management The book is a must-have reference for all professionals and stakeholders involved in tunneling and underground space development projects.
Download or read book Pressure Equipment Technology written by W. M. Banks and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-06-27 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The safe design and operation of pressure equipment and pressure systems is key to much of the infrastructure in any present-day industrial society. This book presents an amalgam of best practice from a range of international specialists, as well as highlighting new areas that require research and development. In May 2002, pressure equipment took a major step forward with the emergence of the first edition of the new European Standard EN13445. Pressure Equipment Technology; Theory and Practice not only describes and analyses the status of the new Standard (providing underpinning data) but primarily it seeks to provide new light and present new information on many of the areas where there is insufficient coverage in EN13445 or other Standards. The information is presented in a variety of ways in order to make it useful not only for the specialist but for the general reader as well. The researcher in pressure vessel technology will find here a comprehensive and up-to date picture on many important and vital topics that need to be considered. The non-expert will also find a variety of different analysis approaches that will give interest in a whole spectrum of pressure equipment and storage vessels. The papers and information included in this volume give expert guidance on a variety of important topics that must be understood if appropriate design of pressure equipment is going to be undertaken. These include, Piping and Finite Element Analysis Saddles - Plastic Collapse Loads Vessel Ends and Eccentric Loads Containment Vessels Explosive Loading Welding and Fatigue

Download or read book Maximum Entropy and Bayesian Methods written by C.R. Smith and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bayesian probability theory and maximum entropy methods are at the core of a new view of scientific inference. These `new' ideas, along with the revolution in computational methods afforded by modern computers, allow astronomers, electrical engineers, image processors of any type, NMR chemists and physicists, and anyone at all who has to deal with incomplete and noisy data, to take advantage of methods that, in the past, have been applied only in some areas of theoretical physics. This volume records the Proceedings of Eleventh Annual `Maximum Entropy' Workshop, held at Seattle University in June, 1991. These workshops have been the focus of a group of researchers from many different fields, and this diversity is evident in this volume. There are tutorial papers, theoretical papers, and applications in a very wide variety of fields. Almost any instance of dealing with incomplete and noisy data can be usefully treated by these methods, and many areas of theoretical research are being enhanced by the thoughtful application of Bayes' theorem. The contributions contained in this volume present a state-of-the-art review that will be influential and useful for many years to come.
