Book Handbook of Agricultural Productivity

Download or read book Handbook of Agricultural Productivity written by Miloslav Rechcigl and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The greatest challenge of our time is to produce sufficient food ot keep pace with the rapidly growing population. In the opinion of experts, during the next 25 years there will be a need for as much food as was produced in the entire history of mankind to date. Of the various measures available, improvement in agricultural productivity is judged as the ultimate means of augmenting food production and supplies. In this Handbook, an international team of experts consider the most important factors affecting production of both crops and livestock. This Handbook is intended as a scientific guide to practitioners and students, as well as to researchers, who should find here stimulating ideas for further exploration.

Book Biochar assisted Remediation of Contaminated Soils Under Changing Climate

Download or read book Biochar assisted Remediation of Contaminated Soils Under Changing Climate written by Shah Fahad and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-04-19 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soil contamination with heavy metals like Cr, Co, Cu, Ni, Mn, Cd, Pb, and Zn is becoming a main problem across the globe especially in developed countries. Globally, it has become a serious threat to human health and ecosystem integrity. applying amendments like phosphate compounds, liming materials, clay minerals, coal fly ash, organic composts, metal oxides, and biochar to heavy metals contaminated soil is considered one of the most promising in-situ remediation techniques. Biochar has become one of the most attractive research hotspots as a result of its special properties along with its important role in the climate change, global biogeochemical cycle and environmental system. This book will summarize recent progresses in understanding (a) metal-biochar interactions in soils, (b) potential risks associated with biochar amendment and (c) application of biochar for the remediation of HM polluted soils. In addition, research gaps and future directions in understanding biochar-metal interactions in soils will also be explored. - Enables readers to understand the most recent developments surrounding metal-biochar interactions in soils and their impact on agricultural productivity - Provides the latest statistics and literature review regarding the role of biochar in remediation of heavy metals polluted soils - Examines the global status of heavy metals polluted soil

Book Adaptation of Plants to Waterlogging and Hypoxia

Download or read book Adaptation of Plants to Waterlogging and Hypoxia written by Najeeb Ullah and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-06-03 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plants, like other living organisms, require oxygen and water supplies for sustaining their normal growth and development. The water requirement is generally met through a coordinated system of root-to-shoot communication. However, excessive soil moisture in the rhizosphere can impact normal functioning of plants by restricting oxygen supplies to the roots. To survive under hypoxic conditions, plants show cellular, molecular, and functional level adaptations. One temporary response could be switching to anaerobic respiration, and maintain energy production to some extent, via glycolysis and ethanol fermentation. However, root respiration, water, and nutrient uptake, and hormonal synthesis are severely impacted under sustained periods of oxygen deficiency. These belowground changes, in turn, affect shoot performance and yield formation by interfering with the key physiological processes.

Book Soil and Fertilizer Concepts and Practices

Download or read book Soil and Fertilizer Concepts and Practices written by 楊秋忠 and published by Airiti Press. This book was released on 2015-01-14 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agriculture builds upon the integration of crops and the environment, with which its yield depends strongly on a healthy soil foundation. With that in mind, the knowledge of the soil and fertilizer is crucial to maintaining an environment with optimal nutrients, water and oxygen for crop production. Soil is one of human's precious resources, the protection and nurturing of our soil is thus an integral part of sustainable development. Effective soil management is considered not only a technology, but also an art. In practice, to make use the full potential of the land, the management strategies need to take account of the differences and characteristics of the soil, plant and climate that are unique to each geographical location. Such an approach is increasingly more important nowadays because of the increasing loss of cultivable land and need of high quality agricultural products.
