Book What Our Mothers Didn t Tell Us

Download or read book What Our Mothers Didn t Tell Us written by Danielle Crittenden and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2009-08-25 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Talk to women under forty today, and you will hear that in spite of the fact that they have achieved goals previous generations of women could only dream of, they nonetheless feel more confused and insecure than ever. What has gone wrong? What can be done to set it right? These are the questions Danielle Crittenden answers in What Our Mothers Didn't Tell Us. She examines the foremost issues in women's lives -- sex, marriage, motherhood, work, aging, and politics -- and argues that a generation of women has been misled: taught to blame men and pursue independence at all costs. Happiness is obtainable, Crittenden says, but only if women will free their minds from outdated feminist attitudes. By drawing on her own experience and a decade of research and analysis of modern female life, Crittenden passionately and engagingly tackles the myths that keep women from realizing the happiness they deserve. And she introduces a new way of thinking about society's problems that may, at long last, help women achieve the lives they desire.

Book Raising Parents

Download or read book Raising Parents written by Patricia M. Crittenden and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-19 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Helping troubled parents to raise their children adequately is of crucial importance for parents, their children and society at large. Distressed parents have themselves often been endangered and, as a consequence, sometimes endanger their children either through maltreatment or through the effects of parental psychiatric disorder. Raising Parents explains how that happens and clusters parents in terms of the psychological processes that result in maladaptive childrearing. The book then delineates DMM Integrative Treatment in terms of assessment, formulation, and treatment. New formulations are offered for problems that have resisted treatment and cases demonstrate how the ideas can be applied in real treatment settings. The book closes with 10 suggestions for improving professionals’ responses to troubled families and endangered children. This edition of Raising Parents introduces DMM Integrative Treatment and demonstrates how to use it with vulnerable families. DMM Integrative Treatment is an interpersonal process and this book will be essential reading for clinicians from all disciplines, including psychiatry and psychology, social work, nursing and all types of psychotherapy.

Download or read book The President s Secret IMs written by Danielle Crittenden and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2010-05-11 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Uncensored. Unrestrained. Un-politically correct. It's a little-known fact that President Bush -- known to his Instant Messenger buddies as "Kickass43" -- has logged almost as much time chatting online as he has clearing brush at Crawford. Now this hilarious collection of imaginary online correspondence between the POTUS and pals sheds light and empathy on W's tumultuous second term in office. Whether it's dodging Harriet Miers after the fallout of her Supreme Court nomination, hosting a live online chat with the nation's schoolchildren to disastrous effect, or the surprising late-night alliance with Bill Clinton ("Ladeezman42") because both wish to keep Hillary out of the White House, you'll never look at politics the same way again. Gleefully poking fun at political figures on both sides of the divide, The President's Secret IMs is wickedly clever, deliciously irreverent, and in the words of Kickass43, "ttly awesum" and "gr8." Srsly.

Book Attachment Issues in Psychopathology and Intervention

Download or read book Attachment Issues in Psychopathology and Intervention written by Leslie Atkinson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-12-08 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To be a human being (or indeed to be a primate) is to be attached to other fellow beings in relationships, from infancy on. This book examines what happens when the mechanisms of early attachment go awry, when caregiver and child do not form a relationship in which the child finds security in times of uncertainty and stress. Although John Bowlby, a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, originally formulated attachment theory for the express purpose of understanding psychopathology across the life span, the concept of attachment was first adopted by psychologists studying typical development. In recent years, clinicians have rediscovered the potential of attachment theory to help them understand psychological/psychiatric disturbance, a potential that has now been amplified by decades of research on typical development. Attachment Issues in Psychopathology and Intervention is the first book to offer a comprehensive overview of the implications of current attachment research and theory for conceptualizing psychopathology and planning effective intervention efforts. It usefully integrates attachment considerations into other frameworks within which psychopathology has been described and points new directions for investigation. The contributors, who include some of the major architects of attachment theory, link what we have learned about attachment to difficulties across the life span, such as failure to thrive, social withdrawal, aggression, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, dissociation, trauma, schizo-affective disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, eating disorders, and comorbid disorders. While all chapters are illuminated by rich case examples and discuss intervention at length, half focus solely on interventions informed by attachment theory, such as toddler-parent psychotherapy and emotionally focused couples therapy. Mental health professionals and researchers alike will find much in this book to stimulate and facilitate effective new approaches to their work.
