Book Petroleum Generation Migration and Storage in Shale System

Download or read book Petroleum Generation Migration and Storage in Shale System written by Xiaomin Xie and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-11-16 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shale resource systems include conventional source rocks, unconventional resources such as shale gas and shale oil system. Regardless of the type of shale resource system, the issues of petroleum formation processes (including petroleum generation, migration and storage) are very important in petroleum evaluation and exploration. Because of the complicated and different geological settings in the world, the evaluation approaches and workflows may not be easily implemented following those from successful examples. Thus, the mechanisms of petroleum formation are fundamental for petroleum exploration and production all over in the world. The reason this special issue focuses on the shale system is because the shale system is not only the main source rock type but also the main unconventional reservoir type in the world.

Book Geomechanical and Petrophysical Properties of Mudrocks

Download or read book Geomechanical and Petrophysical Properties of Mudrocks written by E.H. Rutter and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2017-10-09 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A surge of interest in the geomechanical and petrophysical properties of mudrocks (shales) has taken place in recent years following the development of a shale gas industry in the United States and elsewhere, and with the prospect of similar developments in the UK. Also, these rocks are of particular importance in excavation and construction geotechnics and other rock engineering applications, such as underground natural gas storage, carbon dioxide disposal and radioactive waste storage. They may greatly influence the stability of natural and engineered slopes. Mudrocks, which make up almost three-quarters of all the sedimentary rocks on Earth, therefore impact on many areas of applied geoscience. This volume focuses on the mechanical behaviour and various physical properties of mudrocks. The 15 chapters are grouped into three themes: (i) physical properties such as porosity, permeability, fluid flow through cracks, strength and geotechnical behaviour; (ii) mineralogy and microstructure, which control geomechanical behaviour; and (iii) fracture, both in laboratory studies and in the field.

Book Evaluation of Shale Source Rocks and Reservoirs

Download or read book Evaluation of Shale Source Rocks and Reservoirs written by Bodhisatwa Hazra and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-23 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book details the analytical processes, and interpretation of the resulting data, needed in order to achieve a comprehensive source-rock evaluation of organic-rich shales. The authors employ case studies on Permian and Cretaceous shales from various Indian basins and other petroleum-bearing basins around the world to illustrate the key features of their organic-rich shale characterization methodology. These case studies may also help to identify potential zones within shale formations that could be exploited for commercial gas and/or oil production. Given its scope, the book will be of interest to all researchers working in the field of source-rock analysis. In addition, the source-rock evaluation techniques – and the various intricacies associated with them – discussed here offer valuable material for postgraduate geology courses.
